Inspired by Oscuro's “...And Justice For Art” series, I decided to take a look back at some of the metal cover art from 2015 that has stuck with me into the new year.
With hundreds (thousands?) of metal releases every year, there's a ton of artwork that gets splashed across my screen on any given day. While some of it is godawful, for the most part heavy metal gets album artwork right and really creates moods and tones you don't get with the cover designs of other genres.
From Vincent Locke's infamous Cannibal Corpse watercolors to the many, many different cover pieces by Travis Smith, there's some truly iconic artwork in metal and a ton of ground covered in terms of styles and themes.
This past year we got some really great cover art in just about every sub-genre. Unfortunately sometimes killer album art does not mean there will be equally killer music inside, though. The one imbalance that stands out most for me this year was the Marco Hassman cover for Contrarian's “Polemic.”
That cover is jaw-dropping, but it's also intensely interesting in the details. I mean, that's a giant space marlin, and it's apparently engaged in battle with regular old non-organic, metal ships. Everything about that makes me want to hear the album in question. Unfortunately the music didn't grab me (the vocals in particular killed my enjoyment, and the instrumentation was pretty standard tech death), but the artwork unquestionably did its job here.
I guarantee you the first 25 seconds opening the new Against The Plagues album will kickstart your morning and make you wide, wide awake more than any sludgy cup of coffee!

Against The Plagues will release "Purified Through Devastation" via Non Serviam Records this coming December 18, 2015. The following press release was also issued about the album:
"At 47 minutes, Against The Plagues' 'Purified Through Devastation' is just long enough to satisfy, although it still leaves you wanting more. The sound is massive; the riffs are unbelievably chunky and the drumming is in your face and devastatingly heavy. Mixing speed with slower tempos works successfully throughout. This is one excellent slab of blackened death metal that can be considered yet another of this year's elite Extreme Metal releases. A prime example of frightening savagery, amazing musical execution, and excellent songwriting. This one is guaranteed to make year-end top 10 lists."

It was recently announced that Rigor Mortis guitarist Mike Scaccia passed away on December 23rd on stage during a performance.
Since then Ministry frontman Al Jourgensen has issued a statement about Mike's passing, and various other metal bands have also shared their thoughts about Mike online.
The Electric Hellfire Club:
We in The Electric Hellfire Club are saddened to learn of the untimely death of one of industrial/metal's greatest, most-underrated players, Ministry/RevCo/Rigor Mortis guitarist Mike Scaccia. Our condolences to his family. However, we should all be so lucky to shuffle off this mortal coil as he did: doing what we love, which, in his case was playing onstage with a guitar in his hands. We'll miss you, Mike.

"After much thought, we have decided that this EP will be released independently and available directly to you, the fans and supporters. Chicago-based multinational extreme-metal act Against the Plagues (feat. ex-members of Behemoth/Vader/Malevolent Creation/Forest of Impaled) has released a brand new song from the band's upcoming (yet-to be titled) album on the band's official Facebook and MySpace sites.
Commented the band: "After a year of hard work and preparation we are proud to announce that our new material is complete and ready for release. Once again, we worked with producer Chris Wisco at Belle City Sound Studio. Before we release the album, we have decided to release one new song called 'Man's Modern World' to serve as a preview for the album.
"This particular piece is meant to be a reflection of today's civilization as it observes the notion that tools (such as fear) are utilized by organizations and entities to create blind dependency and loyalty along with discouraging mankind's will to a point where one's potential to excel will never be reached. We feel this new track best represents the motif and pace of the album. Currently, we are in the process of finalizing all extraneous details regarding our upcoming release. We will release more information and news very soon, please check out our facebook and myspace for all updates."
The current Against the Plagues lineup is as follows:

When asked about the direction of Road's End, Novy described the material as "American style heavy metal with a European soul."
To aid in completing the band's line-up, on next Tuesday, Sept. 27th, Road's End will begin the audition process for a permanent lead singer and lead guitarist. All pertinent details of the process will be found on Novy’s Facebook page here.

The songs are definitely more intense and complex, but at the same time more memorable, catchy, and dynamic. As of now, all guitars, drums, bass, and solos are done; next up are keyboards and vocals. We have really concentrated on this material for the past year to make sure that it is the absolute best possible. Fans of the band will not be disappointed! "I am very excited to announce that we are currently working with the songs for new album! We have 6 songs almost finished and another 2 in progress. Next month we will start recording them as a pre-production material and as soon as we have them ready we will expose some of them on our website. We are working with new music in our practice room in Chicago and as I see after several rehearsals, new songs are much more faster and extreme than the previous album 'Decoding the Mainframe.'
"New Against the Plauges material has a lot of absolutely amazing riffs and 'inhuman' blast beats which is completely new chapter for the band. All of our hard dying fans who were waiting for new music from our camp so long - will be delighted, I guarantee that! Also we decided to invite few special guests to make this material even more unique. It will be big surprise for all of You!

Against the Plagues has posted a music video online for the song "Great Are The Eyed," which can be viewed below. The clip was filmed in Miami with directors Eduardo and Gregg Alvarez from Elephas Production. "Great Are The Eyed" comes off the band’s new album “Decoding the Mainframe,” which was released in Europe on March 31st via Dutch label Vic Records.
The band commented: “This is our first official video clip. It was filmed during the winter time in the Miami area. We chose the song 'Great are the Eyed' because we feel that it best represents the essence of our music (extreme, melodic, speedy, powerful riffs, etc.) During the filming, we chose 3 different locations and spent a few days to create this video ; this included a great deal of involvement coming from Elephas Production directors Eduardo and Gregg and their their awesome crew
"Our goal was to give the listeners bit more than what they have been used to as far as Against the Plagues goes. The video presents the band with our strongest line-up. But over all, we thought it would be fun to create simple and solid metal video that would accompany our album Decoding the Mainframe. We thank the fans and we hope you enjoy the album along with our new video."
Chicago's Against The Plagues has issued the following update about their guitarist Marco Martell performing with Vader:

Chicago's Against the Plagues has issued the following update about parting ways with their guitarist:
"We would to clear the air and clarify all the rumors regarding our lineup changes. We had not yet posted any official statements regarding these changes because we had been busy with all our label-negotiations (re-mastering our self-released album) along with preparing for our upcoming video. Now, we feel that it is time to officially announce that our original guitarist Adrian Adamus is no longer member of Against the Plagues. In short, Adrian had decided to part ways with the band (and extreme music) right now in order to focus on his personal/family life. We respect his decision and wish him the very best.
"Now, we are extremely proud to announce that Marco Martell (Malevolent Creation, Divine Empire, Cult of Azazel) is handling the guitarist position now and will be participating with the song writing process for the next album. Marco is an accomplished guitarist with the versatility, speed, and skill that the 'ATP style' demands. We are very excited about the 'official' release of our debut album along with the new material that we have planned. We would like to thank all the fans that continue to support our endeavors despite this harsh, economic state."

This release will contain all 8 songs from our self-released CD 'Architecture of Oppression' however, these are completely new versions of the songs! All songs are re-mastered and mixed by one of the best producers in the metal world - Dan Swano. There is no doubt that the production is absolutely amazing! We decided to improve the sound with slightly-modified arrangements of the songs, along with mixing and mastering… For now, I would say – this is our first 'official ' product that sounds as a high quality world class album should sound! Of course we've added several new things to make this release a bit, more special.

Vex’s first full length album entitled “Thanatopsis” is expected to be released this summer before they return to complete their second album expected to be released early next year. In 2007, Vex completed a US tour supporting Avenger of Blood and Godless Rising.
