Not having publicly responded to Madball vocalist Freddy Cricien’s comments to the press regarding his departure, drummer Jay Weinberg wants to set the record straight:
"There has been so much noise on the internet regarding my parting ways with Madball – largely distorted – that I wanted to take the opportunity to set the record straight as I see it. Then, anyone who is interested can make up their own mind.
"Freddy Cricien has most recently inaccurately described my participation in the writing and recording process of Madball’s latest project, 'Empire.'
"Throughout the several months-long writing and rehearsing process held at Madball’s Queens, New York workspace, I was fully engaged in the writing of the music for this album. As important as Freddy’s lyrics would become when the music was finished, he was only present at those pre-recording sessions on two or three occasions.
"The recording went well, evidenced by the final release, and I am proud of my contributions to the music – live and in the studio.
"However, Freddy has grossly mischaracterized my time with the band in the press; yet I have not responded publicly to any Madball statements.
"I agree that Madball will be better served by an individual more attuned to their particular lifestyle and, occasionally, a new band member will grind gears with long-time members over non-musical issues. To each his own.
"But, let me be clear – while I really enjoyed playing the music, I do not subscribe to their choice of habits and lifestyle. This past August while on tour in Europe, disturbing events within the band indicated to me that it was time for me to move on.
"While on tour in Canada in September, I informed Freddy, Mitts, and Hoya of my decision to leave – but not before they had found a replacement.
"The very next morning came Freddy’s press release and claim that he had
"Well, that’s just not the case.
"It is true that everyone is entitled to their own opinions – but not their own facts!
"Timing is everything, and who would disagree that one cannot be fired after having quit –
decisively, amicably and well in advance of Freddy’s harsh and public 'spin' of the facts.
"Bottom line – check out Madball’s new release, 'Empire' – I’m proud of it, Madball should be proud of it, and, I believe that Madball’s fans will love it!"

Madball, which is currently on the road supporting Comeback Kid on the "Through The Noise Tour," has issued the following statement regarding splitting with drummer Jay Weinberg:
"I'm letting Jay go in Canada because I just feel he doesn't represent this band well on a character level. It would go against my own code of ethics to keep him around. Not saying he's a bad drummer. I won't take that away from him. But the reality is - he has a lot to learn about paying dues, and about life in general. Granted, he is a kid, but I'm not sure that he'll ever be built for this particular lifestyle. I wish him the best of luck, but the Madball machine rolls on!”
Madball is still set to finish out the tour with a soon to be announced replacement drummer. All future band plans, including the band's upcoming European tour with Sick of It All, and the release of "Empire" on October 12th, remain unaffected and on schedule.

New York hardcore legends Madball has announced that they will be releasing their new studio album, "Empire" this year on October 12th through Nuclear Blast Records in Europe and Good Fight Music in North America.
"The recording process has gone smoothly. Hopefully I won't screw it up," jokes Madball vocalist Freddy Cricien. "I'm actually going in to track vocals today and I’m looking forward to it. And besides the interesting story of a manatee sitting by the place we stayed in, we’ve been dealing with the usual goofiness that comes with recording a record."
Madball are currently recording at Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida. Behind the boards on Empire is producer Erik Rutan (Misery Index, Cannibal Corpse, Goatwhore).
"Erik has been great to work with," states Cricien. "He's definitely a perfectionist, which I have no problem with. It's going to benefit us in the end! He's got his own techniques like everyone does, so he's going to bring a different dynamic into the sound/mix. I'm excited for people to hear the finish product. I predict it will be very HARD!" New York City hardcore legends Madball are set to release their new album, titled "Empire", this fall on Good Fight Music. "Empire" will be the first release for Madball on Good Fight Music but will be the band's eighth studio effort overall. "Empire" is currently scheduled for release in late September or early October.
Vocalist and founding member Freddy Cricien had the following to say:
“Empire will play off of the name. Madball has come a long way from being street kids to becoming very established in our genre, and even beyond the music. We’re finally at a point in our life where we’re taking control of our things, where as before we didn’t have control of some things or didn’t choose to have control. We have the feeling that we’ve built a little empire for ourselves with our band, brand, and different endeavors.”
Madball are currently finishing the writing process, and will enter Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida to record in early July. "Empire" will be produced by Eric Rutan, famous for his work with Misery Index, Cannibal Corpse and Goatwhore amongst many others.
The Black N Blue Bowl event will be returning to New York this year for another edition. This year will see headlining performances from the legendary Cro-Mags as well as long running hardcore veterans Madball. New York Hardcore legends Madball have announced that they have signed a new European deal with Nuclear Blast Records. The band are expected to release a new studio album this year, their first since 2007's "Infiltrate The System."
Vocalist Freddy Cricien (AKA Freddy Madball) commented: "I'm very proud to announce that we have signed with Nuclear Blast, for Europe and it's various territories. We are entering a new and very important chapter in our lives/career, and I know this is the right home for us in Europe...without a doubt! I feel that all the folks at NB genuinely understand and respect our history, longevity, legacy, etc. I also know they believe in our future,in what we still have to offer.. Which will manifest itself in our new album coming out this year! Not to mention, it is an honor and privilege to be label mates with the legendary Agnostic Front. We have not shared a label together since our first release on In Effect/Relativity in 1989. Not only are they family, literally, but they are also an inspiration to all of us in the Hardcore world and beyond! Looking forward to a new year, new label, and new record! See you on tour!"
Nuclear Blast A&R representative Jaap Wagemaker added: "Today it is with great honor to announce the signing of NY Hardcore legends Madball to the Nuclear Blast roster. They started out as one of the most innovative bands of the scene, became one of the most influential ones and easily stood the test of time. Just like Agnostic Front, Madball always were and ever will be nothing but a legend and an unstoppable force! We are excited and extremely proud to be working with and for Freddy and the boys in Europe! Be aware, the new album will strike - the knife will get deeper again!"
Good Fight Entertainment, founded by industry veterans Paul Conroy and Carl Severson, has launched a new management company with a music and sports division, along with a new record label, Good Fight Music.
Pioneers in the hardcore and metal scenes, and former partners at Ferret Music, Warner Music and ChannelZERO, Conroy and Severson have proven track records for innovative thinking and unwavering tenacity. Their abundance of experience has taught them how to spot cutting edge talent and propel them into the spotlight. To obtain maximum visibility for its releases, Good Fight Entertainment's record label, Good Fight Music, has partnered with Sony's RED distribution, which distributed Ferret for six years before their merger with Warner's Independent Label Group. During that time, Conroy and Severson helped launch the careers of numerous hardcore and metal outfits, including Killswitch Engage, Every Time I Die, and From Autumn To Ashes, while taking the likes of In Flames, The Devil Wears Prada, Chimaira, Madball and more to previously unachieved levels of success.
"I and all at RED couldn't be more pleased to be back in business with Carl Severson and Paul Conroy and their new label, Good Fight,” says RED president Bob Morelli. “As we begin 2010 with all the challenges and opportunities that we will deal with, working with Carl and Paul gives us a better chance for success. They are on the cutting musical edge, whether it will be with their label, as managers, in touring or other entrepreneurial initiatives."
Of their new endeavor, Carl Severson states, "We've built a company that is in a unique position to rise to the challenges of the evolving music industry. We've been on the front lines as digital has become the medium of choice for music marketing and commerce and we've grown with it, embraced the opportunities it's presented. Paul, myself, our staff; we have the resolve to thrive in this climate. Good Fight Entertainment is the culmination of our experiences as artists, band members, managers, musicians and executives. We have the opportunity to work with people who believe in us as much as we believe in them. This is a very exciting time for us."
The first Good Fight Music releases, Cancer Bats’ "Bears Mayors Scraps and Bones" and Son of Aurelius’ "The Farthest Reaches," are both scheduled to be unleashed April 13. Future releases from the already substantial Good Fight family of artists will include new albums by Rosaline, I Am Abomination, This or the Apocalypse, Conditions, Madball, and the newly reunited Disembodied.
“I'm very excited and honored to be a part of Good Fight,” says Madball frontman Freddy Cricien. “I've worked with Carl and Paul for some years now. I've developed a friendship there that goes beyond business. Some say friendship and business don't mix, in this case they are wrong. We are all very passionate about music and it will translate through this new vehicle, Good Fight Entertainment. It's the next chapter and Madball is glad to be a part of the movement.”
The music management division of Good Fight Entertainment boasts an already established roster of heavyweights, including August Burns Red, Behemoth, Between the Buried and Me, Bless the Fall, Cannibal Corpse, Children of Bodom, Chiodos, Every Time I Die, Holy Grail, Job For a Cowboy, among several others. When going through the list of legends in the Hardcore genre, several bands immediately come to mind. Bad Brains, Black Flag, Agnostic Front and Sick Of It All are just a few that are instantly mentioned, but half the time, people forget to mention Madball, the band formed twenty years ago by Agnostic Front singer Roger Miret and his younger brother Freddy Cricien. To be honest, there is absolutely no reason to forget Madball. They have written some of the best songs in their genre and bring a huge amount of intensity and energy with them wherever they go. So getting to see the legends live for the first time was not only alot of fun, but a real treat.
The band took to the stage at The Croft in Bristol and opened with the classic song, "Set It Off." As soon as the band started playing, the crowd exploded. Moshing, stage diving, pogoing and singing along to almost every word, a great atmosphere to have. Madball continued to perform with an unrivaled passion and drive, playing some of their more recent (and equally outstanding songs) such as "Heavenhell" and "Infiltrate The System" and every single person in the crowd loved every second of it. So did the band and they thanked the audience numerous times throughout the night for the support, Cricien held the mic out for members of the audience to sing along and engaged in the Great British dialect by calling someone a "fucking wanker." They finished with the song, "Pride" from the 1996 album, "Demonstrating My Style," to a great response. As I said before, this was my first Madball show and it certainly won't be my last!
Madball will be playing three benefit shows this week for one of their dear friends. Support the Madball family be attending one of the following shows:
10/22 - Osnabruek Bastard (DE) w/ Discipline
10/23 - Hengelo Innocent (NL) w/ Discipline
10/24 - Antwerp, Hof Ter Lo (B) w/ Born From Pain
