Madball Announces Tour With Rise Of The Northstar

New York hardcore band Madball and manga mosh metallers Rise Of The Northstar will join forces for a mutual European tour in early 2015. Commented Madball front man Freddy Cricien:

"Rebellion number 6! Crazy to think that we're going 6 years strong with this brand... obviously we couldn't do it without all our supporters! This year we kept with the theme of some "older school" bands along with some 'new blood.' That's pretty much what rebellion is about, bringing together the different generations. I look forward to this one and this time we're bringing rebellion to Spain which we've been wanting to do."

Added Rise Of The Northstar: "ROTNS is honored to be part of this Rebellion Tour alongside NYHC legends Madball. We are ready to kill and to demonstrate our Samurai Spirit, Dressed All In Black."

The sixth installment of the annual "Rebellion Tour" will kick off in Berlin on February 17th and will run through March 1st, visiting Germany, France, Spain and Portugal. More...

Madball Posts Trailer For New Album

NYHC outfit Madball has posted a new video trailer in which the band talks upcoming album, "Hardcore Lives."

The "Hardcore Lives" album is set to be released on June 27th, 2014 via Nuclear Blast and was tracked & engineered by Unearthed guitarist Ken Susi and mixed & mastered by long time collaborator Zeuss. Frontman Freddy Cricien explains the album title as follows:

"I shouted 'Hardcore Lives' on Madball's first release, 'Ball Of Destruction' - I was twelve then. It wasn't pre planned or written down... it was an ad-lib that I just threw out there and we kept it! Back then there was no choice really, not the way we were recording - two track live at Don Fury's... NYHC style! I feel the sentiment behind the expression still holds true today, maybe even more so. Hence the reason we finally chose to use it as a title.

"Sure, it's about waving the flag for our genre/culture, etc. - I've always felt that 'we as a scene' had to scream just a lil louder... to be heard! That said, 'Hardcore Lives' at least to us, is not just about a cool 'catchphrase' - it's about that rebellious spirit that doesn't give in... In life, music, whatever. It's about growing, evolving, and maintaining your integrity in the process. It's about family, overcoming adversity, and respect. All the things that matter inside and outside of the music realm. It's for everyone and anyone with an open mind and heart." More...

Madball Recording New Album

The New York hardcore legends in Madball have entered the studio to begin work on their 8th full-length release, and the first since 2010's "Empire."

The band is recording basic tracks with Unearth's guitarist Ken Susi at System Recordings in Grafton, Massachusetts. Additional recordings will take place at Pinecrust Studios, in Miami, Florida with Jonathan Nuñez at the helm.

The band will hand over mixing duties to producer/mixer Chris "Zeuss" Harris, who worked with the band on "Legacy" (2005) and "Infiltrate The System" (2007).

The still-untitled album will feature some special guest appearances to be announced later and is slated for a mid summer release.

Commented the band: "We are currently in the studio... about to wrap up our new record next week...we are feeling very excited and enthusiastic about the material and hope those that eventually hear it will feel the same! It has all the elements you'd want to hear from us of course. But, it also has some 'newer' elements that actually have more of a 'throw-back' vibe, if that makes sense. Influences from music we grew up with i.e. It'll always have the MB stamp on it though. You all will have to be the ultimate judges...prepare yourselves! Hardcore lives..." More...

Nachtmystium Drops Off Summer Breeze Lineup

This year's edition of the German Summer Breeze festival will take place from August 15th - 17th, 2013. The organizers of the festival have now issued the following announcement about two bands dropping off the bill and being replaced by other groups:

"Unfortunately we have to inform you that Emmure and Nachtmystium have cancelled their appearance at Summer Breeze 2013. Our apologies to all those who were looking forward to seeing them. We will not rest until we can book the bands again for Summer Breeze in the years to come. The good news: We have already managed to find a replacement.

"Family reunion at Summer Breeze: Freddy Cricien, half brother of Agnostic Front singer and hardcore legend Roger Miret, will appear in Dinkelsbühl with his brutal troop Madball. The New York hardcore stalwarts are bringing loads of stage action and the heaviest of hardcore, so all you divers and moshpit enthusiasts out there better get ready! In top form – only recently they headlined the successful Rebellion Tour 2013 – Cricien and company will (hopefully!) deliver a selection of their discography's best songs. Although Madball always kill, no matter what they play! D'accord?!

"People like to call them avantgarde black metal, but the Mainz band isn't really comfortable with that label. Whatever you want to call them though, fact is Nocte Abdcuta will present their brand new album 'Umbriel (Das Schweigen zwischen den Sternen)' live at Summer Breeze 2013. All disciples of gloom can look forward to an uncompromising experimental show with a dense armosphere and a whole load of melancholy, but (hopefully) also an excursion into the German's brutal past. However, no matter which songs get played, no one will crawl back into their tents disappointed after the Nocte Abducta show in Dinkelsbühl."

Metal Daze: The Metalcamp Diaries, Part II

... Continued from Part I...

TUESDAY 8/7

9… something… am. Or maybe it’s 10, or maybe I’m in Hell. All I know is that the sun has risen, transforming my tent into a “Bridge On The River Kwai” sweatbox and my sleeping bag into a dehydration cocoon. I’m marinating.

Cooking aromas. Eggs frying, a Mediterranean whiff of olive oil, the universal scent of black coffee. Subdued, slow-motion, hung-over camp chatter. An unfamiliar voice: “Mind if I drop in for a meet-and-greet?” Male, low and steady-pitched, Eastern European. Might as well get my ass moving and be social. Also, I’m starving again.

I peel away my constraints, fumbling, slippery, dazed. I unzip the door and gasp for breath. The open air feels cucumber-cool by comparison and prickles my skin.

With nature doing all the work around here, who needs an alarm clock? More...

Metal Musicians Pay Tribute To Beastie Boy

A number of rock and metal musicians have posted tributes online to Beastie Boys rapper, bassist and co-founder, Adam Yauch, aka "MCA." Yauch passed away earlier today at the age of 47. The cause of death is presently unknown, though it suspected to be linked to his run in with cancer in 2009, for which he underwent surgery. Yauch was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame along with his other Beastie Boys bandmates and other acts including Guns N Roses and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, who dedicated their performance to absent Yauch.

Some of the hard rock tributes read as follows:

Slash: "Sad day. MCA was fucking awesome. RIP man. We'll miss you very much."

Anthrax: "RIP MCA. Cancer, you're an asshole.

Megadeth frontman, Dave Mustaine: "Rest In Peace Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch of the Beastie Boys. My condolences to his family and friends." More...
