Sahg Streaming New Album "Memento Mori" In Full

Norwegian heavy rock powerhouse Sahg has, since their beginnings in 2004, delivered grade-A hard rock of the fist bumping and heavy-leaded sort. When elements hoisted from the depths of doom converge with the realm of progressive rock, one can draw parallels to greats such as Black Sabbath, Pentagram and Mastodon. Sahg procure a unique blend of the aforementioned while resting firmly on a heavy metal base. The crisp sound on their fifth and latest effort "Memento Mori" defies the idea of simple genre categorization in favor of delivering a damn good heavy metal album!

"Memento Mori" is out tomorrow, September 23rd, via Indie Recordings. In celebration of the impending release, the band is streaming the entire album in full in the player below. Check it out here:

Sahg Reveals New Album

In a time when threats of religious hostility and environmental decay loom heavily over the world, we have no choice but to acknowledge the inevitability of death. Not only does it spread fear, stigma and hatred, but it also reminds us of the grasp our own mortality has on us.

Death is just a heartbeat away and our fear of the unknown is apparent now more than ever. Thus the title "Memento Mori" was chosen for Sahg's new album coming September 23rd via Indie Recordings.

For a long while, the album title remained undecided. “Memento Mori was one of several options that we had on note for a long time," comments vocalist/guitarist Olav Iversen. "But then Lemmy died and Bowie died. All of a sudden, all these rock icons disappeared - one by one. These people made their imprint on history and influenced us musically since childhood. It made a great impression on a personal level, and started a grieving process that influenced the making of the album. Suddenly it was very clear what the album title would be. Even immortal legends like Bowie and Lemmy don’t live forever..”

Following last year’s departures of drummer Thomas Lønnheim and founding member Thomas Tofthagen, Sahg faced existential challenges. Olav Iversen comments: “at that point it seemed like Sahg was heading towards the end. But we turned around and came out stronger than ever, with this album as our testimony. Still, we got a feel of how fragile existence is, Sahg is still alive. Memento Mori is living proof of that.”

The change in lineup came as a blessing in disguise, as it allowed Sahg to explore new avenues sonically. Olav Iversen and Tony Vetaas are joined by guitarist Ole Walaunet and drummer Mads Lilletvedt, who both hail from the more extreme end of the metal genre. Their aggressive approach was decisive in shaping the sound on Memento Mori. More...

Sahg Announces Lineup Changes, New Album

Sahg today announces a change in line-up, welcoming guitarist Ole Walaunet and drummer Mads Lilletvedt to the band. Furthermore the band has revealed a new album is set to drop in the spring of 2016.

Ole Walaunet is an experienced performer from the Bergen metal scene, with past and ongoing involvement in bands like Grimfist, Deride, The Batallion, and God Seed. Ole joined Sahg as a session guitarist on previous European tours with Clutch and Sólstafir in 2014/2015, and is now a permanent member of the band.

Sahg's Olav Iversen comments: “The last two years Ole shared more time on stage with us than our original guitarist, so this was a natural step to take when Thomas Tofthagen decided to leave Sahg, with no hard feelings from either side. We are thrilled to finally include Ole as a permanent member.” More...

Sahg Album Seeing North American Release

Metal Blade Records has partnered up with Norway's Indie Recordings to release albums from the label's ever expanding roster.

Last year, Sahg released "Delusions of Grandeur" via Indie Recordings, and now Metal Blade will officially drop the album in North America on February 18th.

"Delusions Of Grandeur is a concept record about a person, whose delusions of grandeur escalate to the level where they consume him completely," explains Sahg's Olav Iversen (vocals, guitar). "From becoming increasingly psychopathic and dominant, he loses touch with everyone around him and isolates into his own imaginary, psychotic world, where he becomes the almighty ruler of the universe. As he stands on the highest peak of his domain and beholds all that he has conquered, he suddenly slips off the edge and floats away, weightless. Helpless and stripped of all power, he drifts further into the open space, until he disappears into the darkness. It's an album about how desire for power and property can distort and destroy who we are."

Sahg Posts Track By Track Video

Sahg has released the second part of track-by-track video from the "Delusions of Grandeur" album, which can be viewed below.

The concept record “Delusions of Grandeur” was released in October earlier this year via Indie Recordings. The label also comments:

"It is otherworldly, mystical, unflinchingly progressive, and unafraid to call upon the powers of doom, Delusions… is nothing less than 48 minutes of impeccable musicianship and flawless delivery.

"Recorded at Solslottet Studios – aka Castle Of The Sun – under production of Iver Sandøy (Enslaved, Krakow), Sahg’s fourth entry in the annals of wickedness is a doom-infused, heavy rock fireball that’s set to torch speakers around the globe."

Sahg Announces New Album

Forged in Bergen’s creative melting pot in 2004, the Norwegian riff-lords in Sahg have conquered stages from Wacken to India.

"There’s no denying our influences,” says Olav Iversen, frontman, guitarist, and co-creator of Sahg’s towering sounds. "Our biggest heroes are the bands that truly defined heavy music. Sabbath and Zeppelin have created some of the darkest atmospheres ever expressed by musicians. In later years, however, we have also taken a lot of influence from modern, progressive metal bands, like Mastodon and Opeth. But the key to making use of your influences isn’t by imitating their work, but by using them to create something new and unique."

The band's new Opus will be titled "Delusions Of Grandeur," which Indie Recordings describes as "otherworldly, mystical, unflinchingly progressive, and unafraid to call upon the powers of doom," going on to say that the album "is nothing less than 48 minutes of impeccable musicianship and flawless delivery."

Sahg's fourth album was recorded at Solslottet Studios – aka Castle Of The Sun – under the production of Iver Sandøy (Enslaved, Krakow).

“We recorded it live,” says Olav. “We wanted to capture the heat of the moment and the organic vibe of our live performance.” More...

Cradle Of Filth Singer Forms New Band

A new band has been formed which features members from some of the biggest names in metal. The new group, named Temple Of The Black Moon, is fronted by Cradle Of Filth singer Dani Filth and also includes in it's ranks Anthrax/The Damned Things guitarist Rob Caggiano, bass player King Ov Hell (Ov Hell/Sahg/former Gorogoroth) and drummer John Tempesta, who has worked with a variety of bands including White/Rob Zombie, Exodus, Testament and The Cult, of whom is he is still a member. The band describe their sound as "a cauldron bubbling over with the unsavory flavors of Tool and Celtic Frost, and seasoned with the likes of Immortal and At The Gates."

Speaking about the name, Dani Filth commented: "We had an innumerable amount of names that never seemed likely to stick, that was until we put our proverbial heads together and narrowed it down to just three or four, and then tossed for it (proverbially of course) using a silver Norwegian crown (we couldn't find any proper money). The name Temple Of The Black Moon represents the rigorous worship of desire, (the black moon astrologically has always held association with the dark Goddess Lilith) and of course the ramifications of the lunar eclipse, always a herald for death and ill-omen."

The band has recorded almost an album's worth of material and is planning to record the songs in Bergen, Norway for a full-length album, which is expected to be released in the summer of next year.

Song titles thus far include "Infernal Desire Machine," "Don't Call Up What You Can't Put Down," "Dark Eyes For Trouble," "Beautifully Perverse," and "C.N.T (All That's Missing Is You)."
