Band Photo: A Perfect Murder (?)
From: Montreal, Canada
Last Known Status: Regrouped
Forming in Montreal, Quebec at the turn of the new millennium, A Perfect Murder has spent the last few years refining their sound, crafting their own rules, and turning their backs on the tiresome trends watering down the hardcore scene. A Perfect Murder has reached deep into the archives of classic heavy metal and hardcore roots for inspiration. A Perfect Murder make their point by extracting the bare essences of the genre: nothing fancy, no tech-metal parts for the sake of having a tech-metal song, and no singing parts - just thick-sounding, heavy-hitting metallic hardcore.
One year after forming, A Perfect Murder released their debut EP, "Blood Covered Words" which started the word-of-mouth hype. As the buzz began to build, and with the addition of a new vocalist, Frank Pellerin, A Perfect Murder partnered up with Ontario-based Goodfellow Records and released "Cease To Suffer", which helped set their trademark sound of Hatebreed-esque vocals and breakdowns and Black Sabbath-like guitar riffs.
A Perfect Murder recorded their Victory Records debut, "Unbroken," in February 2004 at Trax East Studios with Eric Rachel (Every Time I Die, Hatebreed, Snapcase) with the end result being one of the most brutal and dynamic records that has graced the hard music scene in years. A Perfect Murder shakes things up by intermingling not only mosh-inducing breakdowns, but also classic metal sounding guitar solos and groove-inspired guitar riffs. Additionally, special guest Karl Buechner, former vocalist of Earth Crisis took a break from his latest project, Freya, to contribute vocals on "No Truce," giving them the imprimatur of one of the originators of the genre.

Now that A Perfect Murder has disbanded, the original members of the group have formed a new band called Modern Crimes. The line-up features Carl Bouchard on guitar, Yan Chausse on drums, Luc Verville on bass, Frank Pellerin on vocals and Kevin Lemire on guitar. Modern Crimes is currently writing material for a new release, and shows should begin to take place in September. The obligatory Myspace page now exists here.
After seven years together, and just a few weeks after the release of a new album, Canadian metal band A Perfect Murder has called it quits. The group has issued the following statement:
"A Perfect Murder is officially breaking up. There are a lot of things that could be discussed about but we don't wanna go that way. We'd like to think about all the good things music has bring to us over the last 7 years. We've met a lot of people, made a lot friends, traveled to places that we thought we would never go.
"1 Demo, 2 Ep's and 4 LPs later we are very proud to say that we, A Perfect Murder, has achieved something truly remarkable. We'd like to thanks the Quebec hardcore/Metal scene for all the support since we've started. This, also goes out to everybody that have supported us and helped us out over the last couple of years. Thank you so much.
"To all the great and not-so-great bands that we have played with. Thank you. Thanks to Mike Gaytan from Premonitions of war. You've done so much for us. Thanks to Mike, Manual and the SF Crew for saving our asses on tour more than once. We'll never forget. Thanks for Bouchard's parent for being a member of this band since the beginning, this would have never happen without your help. Never ending love. There are thousands of other people that we would like to thanks but the list would be too big.
"We also wanna thanks Victory Records for having believed in us since we signed with them. Cuz hate them or not, They are the reason why all of you out there know A Perfect Murder. That was a hell of ride. We are very proud of everything we've done. Even the mistakes. We have learn so much. So thanks to everybody once again and keep metal alive. You'll hear from some of us pretty soon."
Montreal, Quebec-based extreme metallers A PERFECT MURDER have parted ways with bassist Francois-Michel Labrie and are currently seeking a replacement. Interested parties can contact the group via their official web site.
Labrie has issued the following statement regarding his decision to leave the group:
"Before I joined the band, I had the chance to grab a university degree. I put a hard time and money into this. Lately, I have been offered to work in the field I have been studying for the last years. This offer has so many advantages that I just could not refuse it. I must also say that playing in a band on a full time basis like A PERFECT MURDER was getting more difficult for me. Everybody knows how rough it is to make a living out of music, and I must admit that I had a rough time mixing the band and doing shitty jobs to be able to pay for a rent, bills and everything related to a decent living. All of this means that I can't dedicate myself a 100% to the band anymore, so leaving is the best option, for myself as well as for the band.
"I want to thank Carl, Yan, Kyrill, Kevin and everybody who has been involved in A PERFECT MURDER. The last two years have been the most incredible time of my life. I will keep good memories out of it, and I wish the band will get the success it deserves with the next record, which is an amazing record, by the way. Also, I have a special thought for the parents of Carl, Mr. and Mrs. Bouchard. Thank you for everything you've done for the band.
"I would like to thank my family, my girlfriend and my friends for their never-ending love and support through all those years. My last thought goes to each and every fan of A PERFECT MURDER all around the world who supported the band in any way. I had an amazing blast playing in front of you guys. Now, it is just time for me to move on to another step in my life. But once again, thanks for all the great moments."
A Perfect Murder is to enter the recording studio to track their third album, to be titled "War of Aggression." This time around, lead guitarist Carl Bouchard, singer Kevin Randel and drummer Yan Chausse are being joined by new members Kyrill Ducharme on guitar and bassist Francois Michel Labrie.
Bouchard has already written 14 songs for the new album, 11 of which will make the final cut on the new CD, which is tentatively set to be released this summer. He describes the new material as being "more structured and well-balanced. It'll be a mix between Strength Through Vengeance and Unbroken," Bouchard says. "Having more experience as a performer has certainly impacted my songwriting, but just growing up as a person has helped create a more mature sound in the band."
Once again they will be working with Perre Remillard at Quebec's Wildstudio. "Pierre is still the man behind the monster," Bouchard declares. "As I said before, Pierre is our Bob Rock, but this time he’ll be producing, recording, mixing and mastering. That’s a big deal!"
A Perfect Murder will officially enter the studio on January 29th; they should be done by mid-March. "War Of Aggression" is expected to be released June 12th via Victory Records.
God Forbid have announce that they will be doing a short tour with A Life Once Lost at the end of this month. The tour will include a performance at the Saints and Sinners Festival taking place in Asbury Park, NJ. God Forbid guitarist, Doc Coyle, has posted the following update from the road:
“We are very happy to be home from a great European run. Heaven Shall Burn, Maroon, Cataract, Purified in Blood, A Perfect Murder and Narziss were all great people and excellent bands. Some of my personal highlights on the tour were the last show in Essen (the biggest show and the crowd was rowdy as fuck), Denmark (where we were fortunate enough to play with the legendary Entombed) and Austria (where fuckers just lost their minds).”
“There were plans in place for a U.S. headlining tour to close out the year, but it’s been rescheduled for Jan.- Feb. We want to do at least one more U.S. run before we start working on another album. What better way to come back than to play a long set with the biggest, most elaborate show that God Forbid has ever has done! We should have a concrete announcement in the coming weeks. There hasn't been an American tour since June, so we are raring to go. Speaking of shows, in addition to the Saints and Sinners Festival we have two shows with our good friends in A Life Once Lost and Diecast that same weekend. These will probably be our last shows of the year, so be sure to make it out.”
