Devildriver Apologizes For Missing Ozzfest Show

Devildriver issued an update on their website regarding missing their July 29 Ozzfest appearance.

Apologies to all of you expecting to see DevilDriver at today's Ozzfest at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, CA - The band's bus broke down somewhere in Oregon about 24 hours ago, and is still un-operable. There were wrecking crews out there all night, but no luck. The band tried plane (no go), a 15 passenger van (no go), even a train (that is actually a lie) to make today's show. No luck. This will mark the first time in five Ozzfests that Dez has ever missed a show. Fate has closed its claw.

The band is currently holed up at a Motel 6 somewhere in Oregon, and hope to be back on the road and playing come tomorrow. Again, apologies to those at Ozzfest today. Complaints can be routed to 701.361.912

Ozzfest Report - July 18 in Bristow, VA

On Sunday, July 18, 2004 I enjoyed one of the best Ozzfests I've witnessed at the Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, Virginia, despite a day that started off pretty bad. To put it all in perspective, I'll start at the beginning. I awoke to prepare for the day and immediately noticed that my right eye which was slightly irritated the day before was swollen half shut. After 30 minutes or so of being awake, I was developing a serious headache from the pressure of my swollen eyelid being open. Although I had fully intended to arrive at Ozzfest by 9:30 and see every band perform, I quickly resigned to going in to the hospital to have my eye checked out. The decision was an easy one because the headache was already terrible and I could only imagine the situation worsening throughout the day as dust, rain, sweat, and/or sun screen got into my eyes.

After two hours in the hospital to get some antibiotic eye drops, I was on my way. One side effect of the eye infection was that I was forced to wear glasses instead of contacts, which totally sucks - it's kind of hard to headbang with glasses on.

Factoring in travel time, I arrived at Ozzfest just two hours into the show. The weather was overcast and comfortably cool 70's. They were calling for a 60% chance of rain, but the weather was holding, despite passing through some rain on the drive to Bristow. More...

Ozzfest Report - 12 July in Mansfield, MA

So, after quite some time and many doubts I have finally decided to share my thoughts about this year's Ozzfest. Actually, it's my first time on this festival since I'm from Europe and I've only been living in U.S. for two years now. Please, do consider this as you read along :)

I got to the Tweeter Center around 10:15 in the morning. Being my first time there, I wasn't sure how the whole thing was gonna go. The first thing that looked very weird were all those people on the parking lot who had brought BBQs and coolers and were hanging out by their cars. Very American, I thought. More...

Danzig's 'Blackest Of The Black' 2004 Tour Details

The Fall bill for "Blackest Of The Black" 2004 Tour has been announced. It will be " DANZIG" w/X-Misfits Band-mate "DOYLE" in a guest set, original Black Metal Legends MAYHEM, DEVILDRIVER featuring former Coal Chamber front-man Dez Farfara, DEATH ANGEL Reunion (S.F. Death Metal Legends) and dark newcomers EYES OF FIRE.

"Blackest of the Black” organizer Glenn Danzig had this comment: "At least in the foreseeable future... this will be my last tour. It seems like I have been touring my whole life and I want to take some time for myself and do many of the things I've always wanted to do, like direct my first feature film, which I will be doing this next year.”

As this may be the last show for Glenn Danzig to tour as DANZIG , he explains about the show and line-up with former band-mate Doyle. “So, to do this right, I invited DOYLE to join DANZIG on Stage at "Blackest Of The Black" for a ‘Special Guest’ MISFITS set. This is the first time we will be performing on stage together in 20 years. It's the closest thing to a MISFITS Reunion anyone is ever going to see!”

DANZIG will be supporting their new album “Circle Of Snakes” on sale August 31st , 2004. Tickets will go on sale July 25.

Devildriver To Play Ozzfest 2004

DevilDriver have been officially confirmed by Roadrunner Records to be taking part in this years Ozzfest trek with a slot on the Second Stage of the tour.

Also, The Bled have been rumored to be on it as well, their manager stated

"in order for The Bled to play Ozzfest, we need a substantial amount of money to get them on it. Between travel and promotional expenses, the sum of money we need is WAY beyond our budget as a small indie label."

Devildriver To Film Video For "Nothing's Wrong?"

DEVILDRIVER, the new band fronted by former COAL CHAMBER singer Dez Fafara, will be filming a video for the track "Nothing's Wrong?" in late March/early April at Velvet Jones in the group's hometown of Santa Barbara. DEVILDRIVER's first video, for the track "I Could Care Less", was directed by P.R. Brown (JERRY CANTRELL, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE) and was shot last October. Both cuts come off the group's self-titled debut album, out now on Roadrunner Records.

Opeth Mainman Talks About Drummer's Anxiety Attack

OPETH main songwriter and guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt recently spoke to MetalReview.com about the drummer Martin Lopez's anxiety attacks, which caused him to miss a few dates on the band's recent North American tour.

"We had to cancel a few shows and we feel very bad about that so we decided we were going to be very open with it," Mikael said. "[Martin] basically suffered panic attacks and anxiety attacks and severe depression from working too hard and touring so much. It got to the point where he called me up the day before the first scheduled Jordan gig saying that he couldn't go and he was just a wreck. So we took some rest before this gig and then the same thing happened when we went to Frankfurt where we had a connecting flight to Canada and he said he couldn't go, he had to go home and we had to support him with that. He went back home, we missed 3 gigs. Well, he missed them, we did the gigs anyway with our drum tech and Gene Hoglan [STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, DARK ANGEL]. He went to a psychologist and they did tests on him and it's actually some stuff in his blood that makes his heart beat faster and that's the reason why he's been depressed. Now he's getting medication and I think the biggest breakthrough for him was knowing what it was because he was literally going insane. And he was seriously thinking that maybe he'd have to leave the band and he was scared that we would fire him. But from Seattle, which was the first gig on this tour, he was back and I think he's happier now because he knows we've been doing this for such a long time and it's like a rejuvenation for him in a way to be back."

Mikael also commented on the recent online controversy surrounding DEVILDRIVER's addition to the OPETH North American tour over KATAKLYSM, who many people — including KATAKLYSM themselves — thought were a far better fit. "I like them," he said of DEVILDRIVER. "I've never heard them before, but like everybody I kind of had my mind made up about them before, but they were nothing like that. They're more of, I would say, a death metal band, and all the shit they're getting I think is pretty much uncalled for. People just slag them off because of Dez Fafara's past in COAL CHAMBER, and it's a shame and it's hard for them. At some gigs people are like 'Fuck Off' and 'You Guys Suck', and regardless if you don't like a band you just don't do that stuff at shows. I think they're great people and a tight, brutal band. KATAKLYSM, that thing I never got the offer for them to tour with us so I didn't know. All of sudden there are fights and stuff but I didn't know they were supposed to tour with us."

DevilDriver to be Filmed for HBB Episode

Former Coal Chamber front man Dez Fafara's new band DEVILDRIVER will be recorded in New York City on February 27th. The footage will be used in an upcoming episode of "Headbangers Ball" on MTV2. They will be playing Irving Plaza in NYC later that night with OPETH. The date for this footage to air is not known yet, but should be announced soon.

To add a little bit of my opinion to this article, everyone out there should check out this tour. OPETH is an extremely talented band, whether you like them for their raw metallic riffs, or for the pure genius and challenging intricacies put forth in their music. Along with DEVILDRIVER, MOONSPELL is also on this tour.
