Dream Theater Confirmed For Download Festival

Dream Theater confirmed today that they'll be playing UK's Download 2007. Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy can't wait: "Fuck yeah! It's about time!!! I am absolutely stoked for Dream Theater to finally play Download... In a career already filled with so many personal achievements and dreams having been realized, somehow an invitation to play Download or Donington has always eluded us thus far... After all our hard work for the past 21 years and having made so many fans and friends in the U.K., it's nice to finally get the invitation! This gig will come within the first month of a world tour that will last well into 2008 for us, but I can already predict this will be one of the highlights of the year for us..."

Other confirmed acts include Devil Driver, DragonForce, Evanescence, Iron Maiden, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, Korn, Linkin Park, Machine Head, Marilyn Manson, Machine Head, Megadeth, Motley Crue, Shadows Fall, and Slayer.

DevilDriver Wrap Up Recording, Name New Album

DevilDriver recently wrapped up the recording sessions for their third album, which we can now reveal will be entitled The Last Kind Words, at Sonic Ranch studios outside El Paso, Texas.

Jason Suecof, known for his great work with Trivium, Chimaira, God Forbid, and Bury Your Dead, is producing the album, with engineer Mark Lewis helping out as well.

Known for their uniquely sinister sound and dark subject matter, the band is keeping true to form with working song titles including "Damning the Heavens," "Cattle Call," "The Last Kind Words" and "Monsters of the Deep."

Says frontman Dez Fafara, "In a time when most bands are trying to be Metallica, Pantera, or Iron Maiden, we have made sure our sound is exclusively DevilDriver. The songs are faster and more riffy than on The Fury Of Our Maker's Hand, and there are also more solos. But with all the same groove that makes DevilDriver different." Obviously satisfied with the progress thus far he adds, "Working with Jason and Mark has been great. They know how to capture the vibe of this band."

DevilDriver Almost Done Recording Third Album

California’s DevilDriver are hard at work recording their third album for Roadrunner Records at the Sonic Ranch studio outside El Paso, Texas. Producing and mixing the album is Jason Suecof, known for his great work with Trivium, Chimaira, God Forbid, and Bury Your Dead. Engineer Mark Lewis is helping the band in the studio as well. Their recording is almost done, and their last day in the studio is December 17th.

Known for their uniquely sinister sound and dark subject matter, the band is keeping true to form with working song titles including “Damning the Heavens,” “Cattle Call,” “The Last Kind Words” and “Monsters of the Deep.” The album itself is still untitled.

Says frontman Dez Fafara, “In a time when most bands are trying to be Metallica, Pantera, or Iron Maiden, we have made sure our sound is exclusively DevilDriver. The songs are faster and more riffy than on The Fury Of Our Maker’s Hand, and there are also more solos. But with all the same groove that makes DevilDriver different.” Obviously satisfied with the progress thus far he adds, “Working with Jason and Mark has been great. They know how to capture the vibe of this band.”

In 2003 DevilDriver released their self-titled debut album and participated in the 2004 Ozzfest tour. The Fury Of Our Maker’s Hand was released in 2005 and was reissued in October as a special-edition version with 6 bonus tracks and a DVD.

DevilDriver To Enter The Studio Soon

DevilDriver frontman Dez Fafara has issued the following update on the band's MYSPACE page:

"Fuck yea!!! Here's what's happening: We've been writing and have more than enough material to go in the studio. The band is going to Mike's [Spreitzer, guitar] today to lay the last song down on his computer so I can begin my writing on it. Stay tuned for an anouncement of who we are using to produce the next record.

"We enter the studio, Sonic Ranch, in El Paso Texas on November 13th and will be tracking by the 14th. We will work up 'till Christmas, then come home. The music will be recorded in Texas, and I will be doing vocals here in our hometown of Santa Barbara on about January 7th or 8th. The mix will begin in February and March. We would like to see a summer release, around June-July 2007. We would like to be back on the road in late February or early March.

"Hope to see all of you back on the road soon. As always, thank you for your support."

Fear Factory and DevilDriver Play Australia

Fear Factory are a favorite for many Perth metalheads, not only because they are a great live band but also because they always make the trip out to the far reaches of Western Australia, something that a lot of other international bands don't bother to do. After the release of the Archetype album they recorded the video for Cyberwaste in a disused power station near Fremantle, sneaking a bunch of locals in through a hole in the facility's fence to participate. So this was a show by a band that the audience consider their own. More...

Venom Cancel North American Tour

VENOM's previously announced North American tour, which was scheduled to start on August 13 in New York City, has been cancelled, apparently due to "immigration problems" (as announced by frontman Dez Fafara of the support act DEVILDRIVER). The British black metal pioneers are believed to be trying to reschedule the dates for early September, although this has not yet been officially confirmed.

VENOM's new album, "Metal Black", was released in North America on April 4 via Sanctuary Records. The CD was mixed at the Townhouse Studios in London and contains 14 new songs.

Devildriver Rocks the Starland Ballroom

On Friday, June 2nd, I attended the Devildriver show at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ. Along with Devildriver were Artimus Pyledriver, Remembering Never, Bury Your Dead, and If Hope Dies. I arrived late due to a need to stop and pick up dinner. Once I arrived, I began eating my dinner after checking in with Dez from Devildriver and meeting all their friends outside the Devildriver camper. Dinner was cut short as I had to conduct my interview with Devildriver's drummer, John Boecklin. John and all of Devildriver's friends, along with Dez and all the members of Devildriver were very nice and hospitable to me. I was treated as a friend and felt among friends, although during the interview there were many interruptions.

My interview with Devildriver drummer, John Boecklin was conducted on Devildriver's camper and, as mentioned, was interrupted quite frequently until John finally yelled for the door to be kept shut. After the interview, I walked out to rain and thunder and immediately hoped my dinner had been saved from the rain, which it had been, much to my relief. I thanked a friend of the band for saving my dinner and asked Dez and John if I could finish eating on their camper; they were kind enough to say yes. So, I went and finished eating on their camper. WhenI met my friend in side the venue, I found out that I had missed If Hope Dies and learned that they weren't that great. When I went down to the pit area, I saw Artimus Pyledriver in the middle of their set. More...
