New Devildriver Music Video To Debut On HBB
The new DevilDriver video for “Not All Who Wander Are Lost” will debut on this week’s Headbangers Ball. The video was directed by Nathan Cox (Marilyn Manson, System of a Down) and shot in Los Angeles.
The band’s third disc, The Last Kind Words, comes out July 31. MTVnews.com’s Metal File recently ran a revealing interview with frontman Dez Fafara.
Update: The video is apparently streaming on Hottopic.com already.
Kataklysm Cancel US Dates
This brief announcement has been posted on KATAKLYSM's official website:
"After much thought, KATAKLYSM have decided to cancel the few dates they had lined up with DEVILDRIVER next month, in favor to enter the studio."
Comments guitarist J-F Dagenais: "I think we - all in the band - looking forward to hitting the road again and raise mayhem, but there's a lot of magic that just created with the writing process and all of us are too much into it to break the mood and progress. My studio is ready and we decided to start recording the new album 'Prevail' on August 15 and work on it til we leave for our European tour at the end of September. We also decided that we will mix the album in January in Florida with producer Jason Suecof (TRIVIUM, CHIMAIRA, THE BLACK DHALIA MURDER), which we are looking forward to. Myself and Jason will make sure the album is as flawless as possible with a crushing production!! So for the many fans that were hitting up our MySpace and website, looking forward to seeing us live this summer... we sincerely apologize but it's for a good cause, trust me. On the other side of things, we have some very serious offers for November and December so we are planning on hitting the road in the States then. There's some big things in the horizon. We will keep you posted!"

Devildriver Enter German Charts
DEVILDRIVER's third album, "The Last Kind Words", has entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 92. The CD is scheduled for release in the U.S. on July 31 via Roadrunner Records. An e-card for "The Last Kind Words" has been made available at this location.
DEVILDRIVER recently filmed a video for the song "Not All Who Wander Are Lost" in Los Angeles with director Nathan Cox (QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, MARILYN MANSON, SYSTEM OF A DOWN). The clip is expected to be released shortly.
In a recent interview with MTV.com, DEVILDRIVER frontman Dez Fafara (ex-COAL CHAMBER) stated about the group's new CD, "The 'last kind words' could be 'f--- you' before complete annihilation. For me, this album is about being motivated to stand up to the punishment of being a human and to have the character in you to go on when all people want to do is hold you down."
"Lyrically, it's dark and foreboding," Fafara added. "But it's gonna give you inspiration to go through this earthly experience and keep kicking."
"I think we knew we had to reach within ourselves as a team and pull something out that was really different. Everyone totally put aside their egos and stepped up to the plate to do what needed to be done. In America right now, there's so much of that sing-songy metal going on, so we knew if we did something totally balls-out it was going to be well-received."
If you purchase "The Last Kind Words", from Apple's iTunes Store, you will receive an exclusive live version of "Grinfucked" completely free.

Devildriver Denied World Record for Circle PIt
With thousands of fans trampling barricades, smashing into each other, and helping Devildriver create one of its best performances ever, the band thought the Guinness Book of World Records would want to certify the circle pit from Download 2007 as the biggest in history. Turns out not so much. Here’s what Guinness said:
"Thank you for sending us the details of your recent record proposal for ‘Largest Circle Pit’. We are afraid to say that we are unable to accept this as a Guinness World Record.
Unfortunately, as there is no way you can physically definie (sic) where any circle/mosh pit starts and ends, we cannot accept this as a category. We receive over 60,000 enquiries a year from which only a small proportion are approved by our experienced researchers to establish new categories. These are not ‘made up’ to suit an individual proposal, but rather ‘evolve’ as a result of international competition in a field, which naturally accommodates superlatives of the sort that we are interested in. We think you will appreciate that we are bound to favour those that reflect the greatest interest.
We realize that this will be disappointing to you. However, we have considered your proposal fully; in the context of the specific subject area and that of records as a whole, and our decision is final in this matter.
Once again thank you for your interest in Guinness World Records."

Report
Dimmu Borgir Brings Invaluable Darkness To MD
Continuing my quest to explore the Baltimore metal scene, as I've previously gravitated toward DC and Northern Virginia exclusively, I made my first trip to Sonar to catch the Dimmu Borgir, Unearth, Devildriver and Kataklysm on the "Invaluable Darkness Tour" Sunday, April 29, 2007 - making this report long overdue. I'm not sure I would have ventured out to see Dimmu Borgir and Kataklysm alone even though I like them, but I enjoy Unearth's live show immensely and had yet to see Devildriver, whose last album I enjoyed a lot. I was still very interested in see Dimmu Borgir live, both because I have enjoyed their recent efforts and I had yet to catch a black metal band live in an intimate environment (Ozzfest appearances not withstanding). DevilDriver's Mike Spreitzer Talks W/ Metal Centre
MIke Spreitzer, guitarist of DevilDriver, took a few minutes of his spare time from the Invaluable Darkness Tour to talk with Metal Centre.
How's the tour going so far?
So far, so good, man. This is our third time touring with UNEARTH and our second time touring with DIMMU since Ozzfest in 2004. It's been good. We've had fun. We never really got a chance to get to know DIMMU on Ozzfest, they were on the mainstage. Some guys hang out, the tour's been good and it's been fun.
This is an international tour: you have two bands from the states (UNEARTH, DEVIL DRIVER), one from Canada (KATAKLYSM) and one from Norway (DIMMU BORGIR) so what country drinks the best, man?
(Laughs) Probably us. I don't know, it seems to be pretty even. There are quite a few people in every band that
drink. We've all been having fun together.
What's the best place you've played so far? What is your favorite show so far?
For this tour, I would say L.A., surprisingly enough, which is usually one of the most successful shows along with
Chicago and New York City. We had a really good show in L.A., which made me happy because that's my hometown. My family was there and I had a bunch of friends there, so I was really happy that the show went well.
Do you guys have any interesting stories, any complications?
Tour stories...(Mike ponders). Every day out here is a kind of story. You wake up, do your thing and play the
show. You drink more days than you don't. If I stayed sober, I would probably remember a little more. Offhand, I can't really think of anything. I'm really kind of glad that I don't have any amazing stories. The stories you normally remember are about bad things. The tour's been so much fun, and so good. I think I've only been deathly hungover once on this tour. When we were in Minneapolis, I had to start drinking with my bass player at about noon to hide the hangover so we could both play the show. Other than that, things have been pretty smooth.
Tell Me about "The Last Kind Words."
Great album! Definitely, in all of our opinions, the best DEVIL DRIVER album we've done so far. We all had to step it up quite a bit as far as our playing skills. The songs are faster, it's more melodic, there's like eight guitar solos, we've never had more than two on a record in the past. We never really worked with good guitar players as
producers. We had Roth and Colin Richardson, who are great. I didn't work with Roth as a producer, but Mark Lewis and Jason Suecof are both amazing guitar players. It was a lot of fun working with them. They were like, "why don't you do something like this," (Spreitzer makes a motion with his fingers flying all around, like on a guitar's fret). I'm gonna have to work on that for a couple of days to play
that.Things like that really pushed us, had a lot of great ideas. It went smoothly. We finished so quickly. We
finished in something like three weeks. We demoed
everything in my studio at home. We basically had
everything and cut all the fat off most the songs, so we didn't really have to do pre-production. We went there with
our producers, who were like, "dude, that songs good." They listened to the demoes. I emailed all the demoes
before we met up with them in the studio in El Paso. Things went great. Everyone seems to be liking it.
Hardfiles on Roadrunner's website did a preview of the album. So was the response from those previews?
So far things have been good. Everyone at the label is flipping out over it. Monte Conner, the head of Roadrunner
is loving it. He was on Sirius Radio, on Hard Attack and the dj asked him what the next big thing is going to
be as far as metal and he said, "DEVIL DRIVER." Fuck yeah! Coming from him that's a pretty big thing for us.
I haven't talked to anybody yet that didn't like or say it was amazing. We all have a really good feeling about
this record. I guarantee all the DEVIL DRIVER fans out there are going to love it, and it bring us a lot more
fans this year.
Can you go a little more into detail and talk about your album?
Twelve songs: I wrote about three, the other guys wrote about three. Dez doesn't write the music, he does lyrics.
He doesn't play any instruments. It was more of an equal approach. We all had more of an even influence on
this record. The first record was pretty much written by Evan, the guy I replaced. The second record was
mostly written by my bass player and my drummer. This one is has more of an even approach, as far as the songs
go. I had a lot more influence this time. I remember being up in Denver last year, we had been playing at the
Gothic Theatre. Me and the drummer and been up all night, drinking a bottle of wine in the alley behind the
venue and we said, "man, we've got to do a damn good job on this record; otherwise, we're done!" It's our third
record. It sucks, but if we do a bad job, you can kiss our ass goodbye!
Why would you make a statement so bold as that.
It meant a lot to us. We've gone this far, our career has been going like this (he motions his hand upward).
The second I joined the band, things have been getting better and better everyday. We wanted to make sure we
didn't blow it on this record. We wanted to make sure every single song was special. It's just the fact that
better song writing. On some of the songs, we didn't follow a normal song writing approach. We did our own
thing, yet made it faster and more brutal, at the same time.
Because there was more of an equal share in the song writing, did that bring more elements to it?
I think so. I think it is very diverse. There are no songs that sound alike. You get a lot of different elements coming together in one place for songs. Musically, it kind of forced Dez to write in different styles for the record. He doesn't sing on the records, he does his signature screaming. The music effects the lyrics as much as the lyrics effect the music. It's different, it's in a new direction, but it's still DEVIL DRIVER.
This is the third album you've released on Roadrunner. Are you really happy with the label support you've
gotten?
Yes. They've been good to us, and it seems that with every record, they get a little more excited about
DEVIL DRIVER. You can't be unhappy with that.
Do you still have more albums on your contract with Roadrunner?
There's options. I don't see why. There will be a fourth and a fifth DEVIL DRIVER record.
And you do think it will be on Roadrunner?
Most definitely.
You guys have toured with a lot of bands and a lot of different types of bands. You've done the tour with
OPETH and DARK TRANQUILITY. Now you're touring with DIMMU BORGIR. Have you gained a lot of fans, and different types of fans? Do you see album sales going up because of the tour?
Yeah, when you're not touring, album sales go down. And when you're touring, no matter what tour, album sales go up. They seem to be going up. It's a good thing because it's showing our crowd's getting bigger and bigger with every tour that we do. Whether a headlining tour or a
support tour, our record sales keep going up, which means our old fans are coming back and we're getting new fans too. The record's still selling, it's been out for two years now. I'm not sure what the first one is doing, but it's getting up there. It's all metal that we've been out with. Like with this one, we have KATAKLYSM that is death metal. With us, I would just put us in the metal category. UNEARTH has the hardcore thing going on. DIMMU is black metal. I would call us more straight-forward metal. We're not black metal, but people into black metal will get to hear us, and
they might like us.
Do you think you're gaining a lot of fans from the different genres?
Yeah, obviously. There are a lot of people like me. I like all sorts of metal. I don't just listen to black metal or one type of metal, I also listen to stuff like Industrial metal, and shit like that. I think there's a lot of people out there still who have heard the name, but haven't heard us, and maybe got a chance to see us and thought, "ok, these are guys I can get into." It has obviously shown. Things are good. We've had a good response. It definitely seems like our fan base is growing and growing on every tour.
So you're just about done with this tour, I think you're going to Atlanta tomorrow...
We're doing New Orleans tomorrow, then Atlanta before going to Orlando, Florida, which would be the last day of the tour. We can do it because we've got to go over to Europe. We've got to cut that date because we're going to Rock Im Park Festival in Germany, I believe. We're going to be there for about a month. We've got some shows with LIFE OF AGONY. We're opening up for them, one with LAMB OF GOD, one as direct support for SLAYER. We're opening up for them. Twenty-thousand-seater, man! Download festival. We did Castle Donnington last year. We did that for two, too because SOILWORK got cancelled, which is unfortunate becaue they're one of my favorite bands. I still haven't seen them, yet.
In This Moment Comment On Tour, Heading Overseas
IN THIS MOMENT will head overseas this week with DevilDriver for their first European tour, which kicks off with a performance at the renowned Rock Im Park Festival alongside such major artists as Korn and Velvet Revolver. The group recently completed a highly successful North American trek on the inaugural Hottest Chicks In Metal tour supporting labelmates Lacuna Coil. Look for IN THIS MOMENT on Ozzfest all summer long, in addition to a slew of off-dates alongside Static-X. See www.myspace.com/inthismoment for their complete summer touring schedule.
Chris Howorth (guitars) states: “We just wrapped up four months of nonstop touring throughout North America. It was such a blast and we made so many new friends. The bands we played with were amazing people and it was so much fun hanging out everyday. Thank you to our fans who came out and supported us, we love you guys! We leave for Europe this week and we can’t even believe it. We are playing seven festivals and a bunch of off-dates with Devildriver and Life of Agony. This tour will definitely be the largest crowds we've ever played for. We can’t wait to meet all the new people and see all the different countries.
Once we get back to the U.S. we will have a week to get our shit together then it’s off to Ozzfest. This is another unbelievable opportunity for us. We are doing all our off-dates with Static X, so the whole summer should be amazing. When Ozzfest wraps up we will start on another tour that is yet to be announced, but trust me this is going to be a big one. We look forward to seeing you all this summer.

Kataklysm Reports From Invaluable Darkness Tour
Vocalist Maurizio Iacono of the Canadian death metallers KATAKLYSM has issued the following update:
"Here we are, almost half way through the 'Invaluable Darkness' tour and the fans' reception to KATAKLYSM has been nothing short of astonishing. Opening a tour like this is a big task for any band and on top of it, being the band on the bill with the least recognition and the only band that hasn't been on Ozzfest and tours of the like makes our job ten times harder... BUT my friends, let me tell you something — it's been the fucking opposite! Every show we came ready and determined with no expectations, so we went on and the place was full and the people were loud. They are ready for us, singing our lyrics, pounding their fists in the air and creating some of the biggest mosh pits we have ever seen in North America for KATAKLYSM. We've had several promoters coming to thank us after the show, impressed with the reactions, etc. 'Havent seen anything like it for an opening act in a very long, long time' type comments. It's really overwhelming for us and our answer to them is this: thank the fans for coming early and supporting us, thank them for making this show so great for all of us. The fans have all the power, they are the voice, not the industry. We serve the fans.
"Thank you for supporting the underdog, we love it!!!
"OK, now let's talk about the band responsible that gave KATAKLYSM the chance in the first place: DIMMU BORGIR.
"They have been phenomenal. They set a real dark ambiance and the expectation is met. I enjoy watching them every night, DEVILDRIVER and UNEARTH have also been giving 100% kicking ass and doing very good. We are getting along with everyone on the tour... and YES, for all those who are wondering, we are also sharing a bus with DEVILDRIVER, It was either gonna be the end of the world or we would respect each other and make it work. They extended their hand to us, and if I may say so myself, it's been all good. The boys have had nothing but respect for KATAKLYSM and we're having fun with them.
"Well that's it for now. Memorable, memorable... words that come to my mind. Everyone come early, don't miss out on KATAKLYSM's devastation... Be there and say hello if you see us in the crowd, we wanna meet with you."
KATAKLYSM recently decided to "immortalize" the character that was featured on the cover of their most recent album, "In the Arms of Devastation," and have him re-appear as the main character — dubbed "The Heartbeast" — on their next offering.
Commented KATAKLYSM vocalist Maurizio Iacono: "We had so [much] killer feedback on the artwork but especially on the character that we decided to keep him as the band's fifth band member... kinda like IRON MAIDEN did with 'Eddie.' We have the perfect concept for the next album art... it will be bad-ass!"

Unearth Party w/ Aqua Teen Hunger Force Pre-Tour
UNEARTH were the main attraction at last week's Adult Swim's Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theatres launch party in Austin TX.
UNEARTH have recorded the song "THE CHOSEN" for the forthcoming Aqua Teen Hunger Force feature film, Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters ( in theaters on 4/13/2007) and the accompanying soundtrack Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters Colon The Soundtrack (in stores on 4/10/2007).
Straight after their stint in Austin, TX, the band headed to Europe to join forces with DAATH, DESPISED ICON, and Metal Blade Record's newest member to the family, JOB FOR A COWBOY on a tour that will lead into late April.
"We are all eager as fuck to headline the UK and Europe for the first time. We have done some amazing European tours before, but it will feel damn good to play a full set and put on our show for our friends overseas" says vocalist, Trevor Phipps "We are hitting up some smaller venues, most without barricades, so we can bring a real Unearth show to the people. We hand picked Job For a Cowboy, Despised Icon and Daath to make sure the entire bill was one that will keep the crowds looking over their shoulders at all times!"
UNEARTH will then make their way back to the US for the highly anticipated tour with DIMMU BORGIR, DEVILDRIVER and KATAKLYSM.
"After the headlining run we come right back home for a North American tour with Dimmu Borgir, Devildriver and Kataklysm. We haven't hit the road with Dimmu since the 2004 Ozzfest, so it will be good to get out there and do it again in a club setting. Devil Driver is always a great band to share the stage with and Kataklysm is one of the best death metal bands around today" enthuses Phipps "This tour is going to be an un-fucking-real diverse clash of heavy music... good times ahead!"
