Belphegor's Helmuth has issued the following statement online about the band canceling its previously announced appearance on the Barge to Hell cruise:
"I wanna hold to the March 2013 album release date and unfortunately studio terms collide with the cruise.
"Because of my health issues, we had to delay a lot of things during the last 12 months: tours, studio sessions, recording and so forth. We put extra creativity, extra magick - full concentration and energy into the new album to get the best result possible of our art.
"I hope you all understand this difficult decision for the band, to cancel and pass on this great experience. We really wish and hope that we can be a part of it in one of the next year's editions. In hell we burn!!!"

After fighting for ten months to get my life back, it feels amazing to be able to create the new sound collages coming to you next March! Next year we are planning some of our most crushing stage rituals to appease the demons worldwide. Really looking forward to these special anniversary shows in 2013. We're on fire. Belphegor is also currently in the process of working on a new album and follow-up to "Blood Magick Necromance" (reviewed here). Footage of the band rehearsing the new material is also available at this location.
Austrian black metal band Belphegor posted up rehearsal video footage entitled "Chapter X." The footage was shot in June a few days before the band entered Mana Studios in Florida to record the bass guitars and drums with producer Erik Rutan. According to the band, "this rehearsal trailer will give you a first glimpse of the sickness yet to be unleashed." All announced titles for the forthcoming new LP are working titles. The album will be released through Nuclear Blast Records, however, the date of the release was pushed back to March 2013.
This is the first release since frontman Helmuth Lehner was diagnosed with typhus from the drinking water in Brazil during the band's tour in 2011. The condition forced the band to cease all activities while Lehner received extensive medical treatment and physical therapy.

Belphegor is currently working with Erik Rutan on a new album and follow-up to "Blood Magick Necromance" (reviewed here). As work on the album progresses, vocalist Helmuth recently conducted an interview with Metal Sucks to discuss his recent health issues. Excerpts from the interview follow.
Metal Sucks: How are you feeling?
Helmuth: Way better than a few months ago. I am recovering, slowly. It’s getting better each month.
Metal Sucks: I know you had to cancel some tour dates due to a lung infection back in the fall but what was the extent of your illness? What were you struggling with?
Helmuth: I had to cancel all shows and tours for the last nine months. It wasn’t a winning situation. Seriously, I never expected anything like this. Who does? It’s like a punch in the face. I got a typhus infection in Brazil. I guess it was from drinking water from the sink. What are you going to do when you wake up in the morning after hard drinking and have a raging hangover? Yes, I know, not very smart in the end. I was not vaccinated against typhus. The virus killed my lungs. As we toured Brazil, I didn’t know what was going on. I thought day by day it would get better. On the contrary, it got worse. Breathing was difficult. The last shows were tough, full of pain, vomiting and fever. But we played the last two shows with Morbid Angel. Hey, you can’t say “no, we’re cancelling.”More...

On Tuesday bassist Serpenth and drummer Marthyn from Belphegor fly over to U.S. shores to start the drum recordings on Wednesday. Erik Rutan [Mana studios/ Florida, St. Petersburg] will be at the helm as producer for the album. The recording sessions and mix/mastering process are set for completion by mid October.
Serpenth states: "All right, a new chapter. These are the last days before we hit the Mana studios in Florida. We're all set. The nine sound collages are faster and more aggressive than on the previous album, 'Blood Magick Necromance.'
Helmuth added, "The last rehearsals turned out fantastic. We get every arrangement to its highest audial potential. Added alot of new haunting and compelling structures/ rhythm parts and tritones intervals: tones that were forbidden by the damn church in middle ages. We're on fire. Expect more shredding, more magick, more of everything."
The release date of chapter #X is being pushed back to January 2013 via Nuclear Blast records, worldwide. During the last six day rehearsal sessions the band shot some original visual impressions, which you can check out at this location. Further studio updates will be released in the near future.
The organizers of the Barge to Hell have issued the following announcement about confirming Holy Moses as the latest act to play the cruise:
"Who better to lead them on their journey to the undead than the mighty Holy Moses celebrating their 30th anniversary? Not once, because as you know, they do everything twice. You heard right, twice! Here is how it goes: On December 3rd, 40 of the most extreme Metal Bands and 2,000 headbangers from around the world will go to the Caribbean to take over a luxury cruise ship for a 5 day and 4 night trip to the undead! For the entire trip it's like everyone has a backstage pass and you can mingle side-by-side with the Artists in this incredibly fan-friendly scenario that has no comparison. See each of the 40 bands play two live shows on two different days. That's 80 shows with unrestricted festival access to the three stages, each with it's own unique atmosphere:
"The luxurious 'A Chorus Line' theater where they spare no expense to have the benches removed on the floor. Because at a Metal show, who actually wants assigned seating in front of the stage?
"The cozy 'Spectrum' that gives you the real club feeling.
"And their jewel: The open air stage on the pool deck. The biggest festival stage to sail the Oceans.
"You can also get all your memorabilia signed at the Meet & Greet sessions. Be part of their infamous Metal Karaoke and many other special activities with the Artists. And last, but not least: Don't forget that they have bars on board that never close! What are you waiting for? You might even need a vacation from this vacation when all is said and done."

The death/black metal commandos of Belphegor will enter Mana Studios in St. Petersburg, Fla. next month to begin work on their new, yet-to-be-titled album with producer Erik Rutan. The band’s impending 10th studio release is due out late 2012 on Nuclear Blast Records.
Commented vocalist Helmuth, “Around 2006 I [had] contacted Erik the first time, I guess. We talked about the producing of the Bondage Goat Zombie album, but he wasn’t available. This time, we have to do it! Our sound, attitude… or lets say trademark, is a symbiosis of all extremities that came out of this glorious genre...diabolical black death metal.
“Since February 2012 we [rehearsed] and [wrote] hard on nine shredding sound collages. To recordchapter X with Erik is perfect, since he exactly [knows] what we need and how we get this done.
“The thing is, the new compositions are full of intensity and pure aggression. The combination of European Metal coldness, atmosphere and sickest elements - crossed with an American brutal sound, is the master plan. This experiment is going to be ultra-sick! More...

The organizers of Extremefest have now issued the following announcement about confirming Forgotten Tomb and Ultrawurscht:
"Forgotten Tomb been around since 1999 and the Italians have caused quite a stir in the black and dark metal underground! 'Songs To Leave' (2002) or 'Love`s Burial Ground' (2004) are rightfully considered milestones of melancholic dark metal that the fourpiece infuses with doom and black metal elements. In 2011, Forgotten Tomb released their most recent effort 'Under Saturn Retrograde' and fans can look forward to one of the rare appearances of the Italians at the Austrian and German editions of Extremefest!
"It´s all about the sausage with Bavarian / Austrian act Ultrawurscht! Their highly explosive mixture of death metal, grind and hardcore – or simply 'Wurschtcore' – will one day conquer the world, and if you had the chance to check out albums such as 'Cheese Ass Built My Hot Dog' you`ll agree! Mixing metal and sausages should be declared a form of art anyway, so slap some wieners on the grill before checking out Ultrawurscht`s exclusive set at the Austrian edition of the Extremefest 2012!"

Death/black metal commando Belphegor has started the rehearsal sessions for the band's upcoming new album in Abtenau, Austria. Vocalist/guitarist Helmuth stated:
“All good so far. We just finished the second rehearsing session. Currently we're working on nine sound-collages, added a lot new arrangements, elements and structures. Serpenth, Marthyn and me shredded our asses off in these eleven days. There will be three more until we enter the studio by end of May 2012 and start to track drums. The titles on the set list are working titles. Hell awaits!”
The band has uploaded some photos from the rehearsal session. You can check those out via Facebook.
“It’s amazing to have the opportunity to be creative again and compose a new audible monster," commented Helmuth in an earlier statement. “I began the compositions in November 2011, after I had to spend five weeks in the hospital and 6 weeks in a rehabilitation center because of my health issues. I survived this hard trial, which still seems unreal. I’m not fully recovered but feel way better now, I can say. Unfortunately we had to cancel all tours until June 2012, when we will get back on the road, and will start with some European open air rituals."
The as of yet untitled album is tentatively slated for a late 2012 release. Belphegor's most recent album "Blood Magick Necromance" (reviewed here) was produced by Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy) at his Abyss Studios in Pärlby, Sweden and mastered by Jonas Kjellgren.
Nuclear Blast Records has issued the following announcement about Belphegor working on a new album and performing at the upcoming Extremefest:
"The most popular dark horde hailing from Austria do not back down from anything and enjoy celebrating death/black metal art, which can’t be more murderous, provocatively and offensively. With their current, glorifying bloodwork entitled 'lood Magick Necromance,' this evil circle created a very special sort of demonism and reached to increase their ascendancy within the international extreme-metal-community significantly. Fire, pitch and sulphur… you have to see these guys live on stage! Be prepared for a diabolic scenario at EXTREMEFEST, which will be so shocking that you won’t ever forget!
"The band is currently working on new material and the new, as of yet untitled album for a tentatively slated late 2012 release will be the follow up to January 2011´s 'Blood Magick Necromance.'"
Belphegor's Helmith also stated, "Amazing to have the opportunity to be creative again and compose a new album. I began the compositions in November 2011, after I had to spend five weeks in the hospital and 6 weeks in rehabilitation center, because of my health issues. I survived this hard trial, which still seems unreal. I'm not fully recovered, but feel way better now, I can say. Unfortunately we had to cancel all tours until June 2012, when we will get back on the road, and will start with some European open air rituals." More...

Guitarist/vocalist Helmuth Lehner, of extreme metal commando Belphegor, has revealed that the group is working on fresh material for an upcoming tenth full-length album.
The as of yet untitled record is tentatively slated for a late 2012 release, and will be the follow up to January 2011´s "Blood Magick Necromance" (reviewed here). From this coming Saturday until next Wednesday, Belphegor will start the first rehearsal session for the album in Abtenau, Austria. The drum duties will again be handled by Mr. Marthyn, who performed on Blood Magick Necromance.
“It’s amazing to have the opportunity to be creative again and compose a new audible monster," commented Helmuth. “I begun the compositions in November 2011, after I had to spend five weeks in the hospital and 6 weeks in a rehabilitation center because of my health issues. I survived this hard trial, which still seems unreal. I’m not fully recovered but feel way better now, I can say. Unfortunately we had to cancel all tours until June 2012, when we will get back on the road, and will start with some European open air rituals."
"At this time, we don’t feel the pressure of a hard touring schedule and all the rigors surrounding that,” stated bass devastator Serpenth., “The way we can concentrate and create these arrangements in a completely focused way and can even put more energy, blood and guts inside. We are working intensely on ten tracks. We are totally concentrated, you know, the musick reigns above all. Magick. It’s time for a new chapter."
