Torche Shares New Song
Southeastern quartet Torche today shares new song “Annihilation Affair,” which can be heard below thanks to Pitchfork.
The song comes from the band’s forthcoming release, "Restarter," due out February 24th via Relapse Records. Bass player and Producer Jonathan Nuñez said of the new album:
“I feel it’s strong sonically and harder hitting than the previous record [Harmonicraft]. I’m happy with the last record, but I feel on this record, it’s just more solid song to song. You’ve got to move forward. You can’t release the same record over and over.”
The previously released "Restarter" track "Minions" can also be heard by heading over to this location. More...

Torche Announces Australian Shows
Torche today reveals the supporting acts for the band's first ever Australian tour coming this October.
Support in Brisbane comes from the mighty Lizzard Wizzard, Queensland’s resident purveyors of all things doom. With songs like "Games of Cones" and "Bong Dive," you know what you’re in for: gigantic riffs in a smoke-filled haze. Joining them will be Brisbane quartet Indica, which delivers riffs in the spirit of Electric Wizard and Sleep: slow, gargantuan, and tectonic.
In Melbourne, Torche will be joined by the intoxicating stoner trio Child. Dead has also been added to the billing, sporting the recently released single "Dog TV," which packs a lethal dose of anthemic sonic bludgeoning. Finally in Sydney, feast your ears on the controlled frenzy of Lo! and Sumeru.
Thursday October 16 – Crowbar, Brisbane with Lizzard Wizzard and Indica
Saturday October 18 – Corner Hotel, Melbourne with Child and Dead
Sunday October 19 - Oxford Art Factory, Sydney with Lo! and Sumeru More...
Torche Signs To Relapse Records
Torche, the Florida-meets-Georgia quartet whose album "Harmonicraft" was proclaimed “one of the strongest guitar-rock records 2012 will yield” by Alternative Press, has now signed with Relapse Records.
“We’re looking forward to working with a label that has stood the test of time while continuing to expand their diverse roster,” explained Jonathan Nuñez, adding, “Releasing this record on Relapse lined up pretty well since it contains some of the heaviest songs we’ve written to date.”
The band is currently recording at Pinecrust Studio in Miami with Nunez serving as producer and Converge’s Kurt Ballou mixing the album. The as-of-yet untitled album is expected to come this summer.
Torche has also announced a celebratory, post-recording show on February 26th at St. Vitus Bar in New York. More...

Hydra Head Records Closing Its Doors
Aaron Turner of Hydra Head Records has issued the following announcement about deciding to call it a day:
"Hydra Head Records has never been a smooth-running operation. We've spent the majority of our existence excitedly scrambling from one thing to the next, taking on more than we could ever possibly hope to achieve, and never quite finding solid footing in the midst of our self-induced whirlwind of chaos. Though not every second of doing this label has been enjoyable, it has been a very rewarding and meaningful project for me, and I hope for many of the other lives to which it has been directly connected. The fact that it has lasted close to two decades at this point is astonishing, and much has changed during that time - the lives of those directly involved with running the label, the bands and artists we've worked with, and the nature of the music industry itself. Though many of these changes have been positive, or at least illuminating, the impact of our history and current industry circumstances are culminating into a slow and somewhat painful death for the label. It certainly isn't an entirely unforeseen event, but we didn't think it would come quite so abruptly, or (perhaps naively) ever.
"The decision to pull the plug has not been an easy one, and in some ways is a not a choice at all. The simple fact of the matter is we've been running on empty for a while now and cannot afford to keep our doors open for much longer. Years of imbalance between creative ideals and financial realities, personal problems amongst the label operators, an unwillingness to compromise our aesthetic standards, a tendency towards releasing challenging (i.e. unmarketable) artists, and the steady decline of the music industry in general, are amongst the chief reasons for our inability to continue. It is a harsh but undeniable reality, and one which we are attempting to confront with as much integrity and grace as is afforded by the circumstances. More...
Kverlertak Announces U.S. Tour
Norwegian act Kvelertak will return to the U.S. this fall to tour alongside Converge and Torche. Nails, Coalesce and Whips/Chains will perform on select shows as well. The band says:
"Converge brought us out for our first-ever European tour two years ago, so it's a great honor for us that they now are taking us out on our first proper U.S. tour! Not to mention the other bands, that line-up is ridiculous. Needless to say, we're beyond excited!"
The band also announced via Twitter that recording has begun for a new album, stating "First day at Godcity with Kurt Ballou. All I can say is, this album is going to fuck the first album in the ass. Hard."
