Machine Head burst onto the 90's metal scene serving up 80's style thrash with a contemporary sound that some would even venture to call nu-metal. With former Vio-lence bandmember Rob Flynn handling guitars and vocals, Logan Mader on lead guitars, Adam Duce on bass and Chris Kontos on drums, the band released 'Burn My Eyes' to much critical acclaim. The album became a landmark release for the band and that decade in metal.
Machine Head's lineup would see a few members come and go, and eventually Vio-lence's Phil Demmel would end up back with bandmate Rob Flynn after filling in on guitar on tour for a while.
The band followed up 'Burn My Eyes' with solid sophomore release of 'The More Things Change'. 'The Burning Red', the band's third release, took on a decidely more nu-metal feel. Their fourth release, 'Supercharger', took it a step further, seemingly trying to make that sound more accessible to the masses with Rob singing on certain songs and the overall tempo slower and less heavy than previous releases.
In 2002, the band split with US label Roadrunner Records. Eventually, Machine Head and Roadrunner US worked out their differences and 'Through The Ashes of Empires' was released in the US in 2004, almost 6 months after the European release. The album still charted at #88 on Billboard's albums chart, moving more than 11,000 copies in its first week. While not neccessarily a return to form per se, TTAOE had a much heavier and aggessive sound, while still incorporating many elements of the band's sound as it had evolved over the years.

As was previously reported, Machine Head main man Robb Flynn's house was broken into, and guitars were among the stolen possessions. Flynn appeared on television asking for help in recovering the guitars, one of which was used to record the band's first album "Burn My Eyes" and the other was a gift from Dimebag Darrell. The video clip can be viewed below.
Guitarist/vocalist Robb Flynn of San Francisco Bay Area group Machine Head had his home broken into between 1:15 PM and 3:15 PM PST on September 7th, 2010. Flynn and his family were not present during the invasion, and many items were stolen from his home. These items include the guitar that Flynn recorded Machine Head's first album, "Burn My Eyes," with, a gifted guitar from late Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell, and Flynn’s son Zander’s mini Flying V; a gift he received from his family for Christmas. Other items stolen include Flynn’s wife’s jewelry, laptops, wakeboards, and cash.
"I am offering a $1,000 reward for the return of the black Ibanez Strat along with many stickers, a ‘Designated Drinker’ sticker,” announces Flynn. "Additionally, I am offering a $2,000 reward for the safe return of the blue Washburn Dimebolt prototype. An APB has been put out to every Guitar Center in Northern California and the police were able to get several fingerprints off of the two acoustics that the thieves handled, yet bizarrely left behind. Sightings of two suspicious vehicles have been reported, one a green/teal U.S.-make pickup truck, the other a white full-size work van. If anyone sees or hears of anything on Craigslist, eBay, at their guitar shop... anything, anywhere, Please contact us at email@example.com immediately."
MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn has recorded audio and video of an acoustic cover of BLACK SABBATH's "Die Young" song from the classic "Heaven and Hell" album for free download in tribute to the late Debbie Abono, who sadly passed away on the same day as legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio. In a statement made at the beginning of the video (which was recorded the day after Debbie's passing and which can be viewed at this location), Robb says, "I don't know why I recorded this song, it doesn't really have relevance to Debbie or Dio, but I was sad and depressed and it was the only thing that made sense in the world."
There are no plans to officially release Flynn's version of "Die Young," but an MP3 version of the track is available for free download at the MACHINE HEAD web site, www.machinehead1.com.
Debbie Abono, a well-respected and much-loved manager and promotional machine behind some of San Francisco Bay Area's strongest metal bands (POSSESSED, FORBIDDEN, EXODUS, VIO-LENCE, SKINLAB), passed away on May 16 at approximately 9:59 a.m. PST after a battle with cancer. She was 80 years old. More...
Thomas G. Fischer (aka Tom G. Warrior,) the founder of the legendary metal bands Celtic Frost and Hellhammer, and most recently Triptykon, was honoured in London this week when he received the prestigious Golden God award for inspiration. The award was presented to him at the Indigo2/O2 Arena by Cathedral frontman Lee Dorrian. When accepting the award, Fischer stated:
"In my opinion, however, I don't deserve this award. It should instead go to Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Angel Witch, and Venom, artists who have inspired me and without whom I would not be here tonight."

Well respected member of the Bay Area metal scene Debbie Abono passed away recently and veterans of the heavy metal community have posted some messages online, paying tribute to her work and her personality. Death Angel's Rob Cavestany wrote:
"Haven't been able to get online much the past few days on the road but now have had the chance to read all the posts about Debbie Abono and soak it all in. I want to express my gratitude and respect for all she did for our scene, my band and me individually. She was like a mom and mentor.
"She was there for us in so many ways at almost all the local shows and especially on one of the best tours we ever did (Death Angel - Act III / Forbidden - Twisted Into Form in 1990). Miss you, Debbie. Rest in peace." More...
