Machine Head burst onto the 90's metal scene serving up 80's style thrash with a contemporary sound that some would even venture to call nu-metal. With former Vio-lence bandmember Rob Flynn handling guitars and vocals, Logan Mader on lead guitars, Adam Duce on bass and Chris Kontos on drums, the band released 'Burn My Eyes' to much critical acclaim. The album became a landmark release for the band and that decade in metal.

Machine Head's lineup would see a few members come and go, and eventually Vio-lence's Phil Demmel would end up back with bandmate Rob Flynn after filling in on guitar on tour for a while.

The band followed up 'Burn My Eyes' with solid sophomore release of 'The More Things Change'. 'The Burning Red', the band's third release, took on a decidely more nu-metal feel. Their fourth release, 'Supercharger', took it a step further, seemingly trying to make that sound more accessible to the masses with Rob singing on certain songs and the overall tempo slower and less heavy than previous releases.

In 2002, the band split with US label Roadrunner Records. Eventually, Machine Head and Roadrunner US worked out their differences and 'Through The Ashes of Empires' was released in the US in 2004, almost 6 months after the European release. The album still charted at #88 on Billboard's albums chart, moving more than 11,000 copies in its first week. While not neccessarily a return to form per se, TTAOE had a much heavier and aggessive sound, while still incorporating many elements of the band's sound as it had evolved over the years.

Machine Head Mixes The Generations

The line-up was picked perfectly for this tour, from the bands abilities to bring unique heavy metal and modern hybrid influences to a big audience and worked the crowd. As Machine Head’s older fans and Darkest Hour and Suicide Silence’s younger fans filed in, some still excited from nearby Mardi Gras parades, the generations mixed, mingled, sized each other up, and eventually socialized as they waited to see two great bands opening for one of metal’s best known bands ever. Machine Head In Its Prime At The Palladium

September 29, 2007. The date of Machine Head’s gig at Montreal’s late and lamented Le Medley, holding the distinction of the most claustrophobic and brutally violent metal show I’ve ever attended. Now a few years older and wiser – and with a job to do – I had little intention of getting physical on February 4, 2012, but what this date of “The Eighth Plague” tour would surely lack in danger to my person, I expected it to make up enormously in scale, scope, and overall grandeur. Machine Head At the House of Blues

Machine Head was the first show that I actually bothered to pay money for since seeing Behemoth two years ago. “Unto the Locust” is an amazing album and I've never seen Machine Head headline a show. I caught them opening when they were touring with Metallica back in 2009 and they impressed me enough to get me to buy a shirt. Naturally, I was upset to see that they weren’t headlining for another two years and I wasn’t going to pass up this great opportunity. More...

Rise To Remain Announces Lineup Changes

Rise to Remain has issued the following announcement about lineup changes, which has caused the band to cancel upcoming tour dates with Machine Head:

"Hey guys, as you’ve probably heard we’ve parted ways with Pat and Joe. It’s very sad that things didn’t work out between us, but they are great guys and all of us wish them the absolute best in their futures.

"As an unfortunate result, we’ve had to pull out of our debut US tour supporting Machine Head, and our album release date is now June 5th for North America. We apologise to all our stateside fans for this cancellation, we did not want to let you guys down, as this is obviously sudden news. However, we will be including four brand new and exclusive tracks on our US release of City Of Vultures, and we have got many more new and exciting things to announce over the coming weeks. We are in the audition process right now, and we are very much looking onwards and upwards.

"Please say a collective thanks to Joe and Pat for everything they did in Rise, they are great dudes and they will go far in whatever they choose to do next. See you all in March for some mayhem, and thank you for everything."

Machine Head Guitarist Struck By Flying Shoe

During a performance of Machine Head's classic track "Davidian" at a recent show in Brussels, guitarist Phil Demmel became yet another victim of an unidentified heckler wielding an airborne missile - in this case, a shoe. Demmel promptly exited the stage following the incident, while his bandmates played on as a three-piece.

Demmel (and, oddly, bassist Adam Duce) remained conspicuously absent for the bow at the conclusion of the band's set.
