Machine Head burst onto the 90's metal scene serving up 80's style thrash with a contemporary sound that some would even venture to call nu-metal. With former Vio-lence bandmember Rob Flynn handling guitars and vocals, Logan Mader on lead guitars, Adam Duce on bass and Chris Kontos on drums, the band released 'Burn My Eyes' to much critical acclaim. The album became a landmark release for the band and that decade in metal.
Machine Head's lineup would see a few members come and go, and eventually Vio-lence's Phil Demmel would end up back with bandmate Rob Flynn after filling in on guitar on tour for a while.
The band followed up 'Burn My Eyes' with solid sophomore release of 'The More Things Change'. 'The Burning Red', the band's third release, took on a decidely more nu-metal feel. Their fourth release, 'Supercharger', took it a step further, seemingly trying to make that sound more accessible to the masses with Rob singing on certain songs and the overall tempo slower and less heavy than previous releases.
In 2002, the band split with US label Roadrunner Records. Eventually, Machine Head and Roadrunner US worked out their differences and 'Through The Ashes of Empires' was released in the US in 2004, almost 6 months after the European release. The album still charted at #88 on Billboard's albums chart, moving more than 11,000 copies in its first week. While not neccessarily a return to form per se, TTAOE had a much heavier and aggessive sound, while still incorporating many elements of the band's sound as it had evolved over the years.

Roadrunner Records has advanced in the process of putting together the ground-breaking "Roadrunner All-Stars" record to mark the label's 25th Anniversary. The full-length release will contain original musical collaborations between past and present Roadrunner artists. Approximately 50 musicians are expected to participate in this record, making it a most elaborate collaboration project.
Four central musicians have been chosen to produce and write all the songs. Previously announced were Joey Jordison (Slipknot), Dino Cazares (ex-Fear Factory/Brujeria) and Robert Flynn (Machine Head). The fourth writer/producer has recently been selected - 19 year-old metal prodigy Matt Heafy will take the lead of the fourth team. His band, Trivium, has been called "the valedictorian(s) of the 2005 metal class" by Hit Parader Magazine. "It blew my mind to be asked to participate on this album and write a few tracks," says Heafy "It's an amazing honor to be able to record with artists that I used to emulate and listen to growing up." These four musicians will not only play on the songs they have written but also assemble a unique team of Roadrunner artists to appear on each track.
Notable progress has been made in Jordison's, Cazares' and Flynn's teams. Music has been laid down, but vocals have yet to be added. The vocalists for the tracks have not been confirmed as of yet. The artists that have contributed to the tracks recorded thus far are: More...
Machine Head's upcoming live DVD release "Elegies" has once again seen a delay and is now scheduled to arrive in stores on August 16th via Roadrunner
According to MTV.com, the fourth mystery producer behind Roadrunner Records' forthcoming "Roadrunner All-Stars" disc — which is expected to contain original tracks that are the product of collaborations between past and present members of the label's roster — has been revealed.
Joining producers/composers Joey Jordison of SLIPKNOT, Dino Cazares of FEAR FACTORY and MACHINE HEAD's Robert Flynn will be Matt Heafy of TRIVIUM.
All four musicians will not only play on the songs they've written, but will assemble a team of artists to record the tracks. In order to cover as wide a spectrum as possible, no musician will play for more than one writer/producer and each song will feature a different vocalist.
The project is being overseen by longtime Roadrunner A&R man Monte Conner. Mixing duties will be handled by legendary hard rock producer Colin Richardson. The album is tentatively scheduled for release in the fall of 2005.

MACHINE HEAD frontman Robert Flynn has posted the following message in the band's official forum:
"Been listening to SLAYER's 'Seasons in the Abyss' a lot lately. [I] don't really know why I went back to it... it's kinda hard to listen to in some ways... but, Jesus?! That record is just amazing. Absolutely fucking classic from start to finish. 'Seasons in the Abyss' is just about the ultimate metal album. Riffs, melodies, structures, energy... FUCK! What an accomplishment!
"After that began, I ended up digging through a bunch of stuff in my garage that I had to move, and I stumbled upon a shitload of memorabilia from those first two tours they [SLAYER] took us on. Flyers, posters, laminates, pictures... and it kinda bummed me out.
"Actually, it really bummed me out. More...

Machine Head gets some high praise from abroad for their performance at the Donington last year. A news posting at the Download Festival website reads as follows:
Machine Head: Best Band of Download 2004
So say the online community!
Download message boarders have voted Machine Head the best band at Donington last year, for their main stage appearance on Sunday 6 June, in an online poll.
The hardcore metallers stole almost a third of the votes with Slipknot taking second place and Metallica coming third.
Other bands high up in the pecking order included Korn, Arch Enemy, Slayer and Linkin Park.
Of Machine Head's performance, fan reviewer Tom Prince reported: 'Sporting some of the all time favourites like Davidian, The Blood The Sweat The Tears and the new classic Imperuim, Machine Head certainly managed to silence the critics. To hear thousands in the crowd scream out the words, 'let freedom ring with a shotgun blast' during Davidian was a classic heavy metal moment. Today Machine Head were a band on top of the world, the crowd loved them and they loved the crowd back'
We have the first dates of the nationwide MACHINE HEAD, LAMB OF GOD tour. Opening up for the select we have will be TWELVE TRIBES:
