Background
Machine Head burst onto the 90's metal scene serving up 80's style thrash with a contemporary sound that some would even venture to call nu-metal. With former Vio-lence bandmember Rob Flynn handling guitars and vocals, Logan Mader on lead guitars, Adam Duce on bass and Chris Kontos on drums, the band released 'Burn My Eyes' to much critical acclaim. The album became a landmark release for the band and that decade in metal.
Machine Head's lineup would see a few members come and go, and eventually Vio-lence's Phil Demmel would end up back with bandmate Rob Flynn after filling in on guitar on tour for a while.
The band followed up 'Burn My Eyes' with solid sophomore release of 'The More Things Change'. 'The Burning Red', the band's third release, took on a decidely more nu-metal feel. Their fourth release, 'Supercharger', took it a step further, seemingly trying to make that sound more accessible to the masses with Rob singing on certain songs and the overall tempo slower and less heavy than previous releases.
In 2002, the band split with US label Roadrunner Records. Eventually, Machine Head and Roadrunner US worked out their differences and 'Through The Ashes of Empires' was released in the US in 2004, almost 6 months after the European release. The album still charted at #88 on Billboard's albums chart, moving more than 11,000 copies in its first week. While not neccessarily a return to form per se, TTAOE had a much heavier and aggessive sound, while still incorporating many elements of the band's sound as it had evolved over the years.

Phil Demmel To Play W/ Mercyful Fate Tribute Band
MACHINE HEAD guitarist Phil Demmel will be making a special one-off appearance with MERCYFUL FATE tribute band HAIL SATAN at tonight's EXODUS record-release party at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco, California.
As previously reported, EXODUS and HAIL SATAN's performances at the DNA Lounge will reportedly be webcast via the club's official web site at this location.

NEMHF 2004 Acts Confirmed
The New England Metal And Hardcore Festival 2004 will take place April 30th and May 1st at The Palladium in Worcester, MA. Friday individual day tickets are $30. Machine Head, Arch Enemy, God Forbid To Tour
MACHINE HEAD, ARCH ENEMY and GOD FORBID will be hitting the road together this spring for the "Weapons of Mass Destruction" tour, a monster outing that is currently set to attack most major U.S. cities in its path starting this April and continuing on into May.
Following their successful European tour in support of their new album, "Through The Ashes Of Empires", MACHINE HEAD will be out in support of the North American release of the record, due out April 20 through Roadrunner Records. "It's great to have a band like ARCH ENEMY, that's not only one of my favorite bands, but are one of the best metal bands out right now," exclaims MACHINE HEAD drummer Dave McClain, adding "and GOD FORBID is a great new band with a killer new album, and I can't wait to see them tear it up on tour."

Machine Head Back With Roadrunner
Machine Head has re-signed with Roadrunner Records and will be releasing their latest CD, Through The Ashes Of Empires, in the US on April 20th, with a Spring tour to follow.
Roadrunner Records previously had a deal with the band that was only for a European/Japanese/Australian release of the new CD, which came out last Fall. The band should be heading into the studio at some point in the coming couple of weeks to record two new tracks for this US release, one original, and one most likely being a cover.
More details to come as plans become more solid.
Logan Mader's Stereo Black To Make Live Debut
STEREO BLACK (formerly NEW BLACK), the new band fronted by former MACHINE HEAD/SOULFLY guitarist Logan Mader, will make their live debut on Monday, March 8 at The Whisky A Go Go (8901 Sunset Boulevard) in West Hollywood, California.
As previously reported, STEREO BLACK (photo) reportedly sees Logan returning to his heavier roots, and at the same time, incorporating what he has learned from his early days as a guitarist to present. The group, whose lineup is completed by Lucas Banker (guitar), Clyde Shorey (guitar), Jason Evigan (bass, backing vocals) and Christopher Antonopoulis (drums), recently finished mixing a demo in Amsterdam with beatmaster extraordinaire JUNKIE XL and are currently shopping around for a record deal.
STEREO BLACK currently have a total of 13 tracks under their belt, according to a posting on Logan's official web site.

Machine Head To Re-Sign With RoadRunner Records
MACHINE HEAD are on the verge of signing a new deal with the U.S. branch of Roadrunner Records, sources close to the band and label have informed BLABBERMOUTH.NET.
The San Francisco Bay Area-based quartet, whose latest CD, "Through The Ashes of Empires", was issued in most territories around the world in October, released four studio albums and one live set through Roadrunner in North America before splitting with the label in 2002. They subsequently re-signed with Roadrunner in Europe, where they continued to command impressive record sales and concert attendances despite a significant market downturn.
"Through The Ashes of Empires", widely hailed as MACHINE HEAD's finest offering since their classic 1994 debut, "Burn My Eyes", is tentatively scheduled to receive a U.S. release through Roadrunner this spring. A full-scale North American tour — the band's first since 2002 — will coincide with the release.
Ex-Machine Head and Pitchshifter Cover St. Anger
Former MACHINE HEAD/SOULFLY guitarist Logan Mader has teamed up with ex-PITCHSHIFTER/current DOHENY frontman J.S. Clayden to record a cover version of METALLICA's "St. Anger". The recording is expected to appear on a Cleopatra Records compilation, due later in the year.
Says J.S. "I've known Logan for a while and it was a no-brainer to ask him to join me on guitar for the track. We rocked it out in a few days and I'm really happy with the result. I'm sure the purist out there will freak because this version is mangled with breakbeats and drum and bass elements, but I think the end result is respectful of the original with an interesting spin. Although DOHENY is my new baby, I am still doing 'PITCHSHIFTER'-style mixes in my spare time for projects that sound fun like this one."

Machine Head Confirmed For Two Festivals
Machine Head have been confirmed for the Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park festivals (web site), set to take place June 4-6, 2004 in Nürnberg and Nürburgring, Germany (respectively). The band are also slated to appear at the U.K.'s Download festival (web site), which is tentatively scheduled for June 6-7 in Glasgow and Donington.
Machine Head are currently seeking a North American record deal following their split with the U.S. branch of Roadrunner Records. The band, who recently completed a European headlining tour, are expected to return to the road in early 2004. The group's fifth studio album, "Through The Ashes Of Empires", has been available in Europe since October.
