Anthrax - Arizona State Fair 2018

For those metalheads that live in Arizona, specifically the city of Phoenix, they were lucky enough to see two Big Four bands at the Arizona State Fair in recent memory while enjoying corn dogs and roller coasters to boot. Three years ago, it was Slayer, and this year said band was Anthrax. Scheduled among other popular and commercial Arizona State Fair concert series acts such as Pitbull, The Flaming Lips, and 38 Special, they were not to be outdone. Anthrax proved that even a heavy metal band can pull in a crowd at a family friendly event such as a state fair.

As soon as “The Number of the Beast” cracked the PA system minutes before the start of the concert, you would have sworn that Iron Maiden had hit the stage. The roar from the crowd was deafening and I looked around to see if Eddie was rumbling through the crowd. But once the Blues Brothers version of Otis Redding’s "I Can't Turn You Loose” followed, everyone knew what was about to happen next. Ripping into a ferocious rendition of “Among the Living,” Joey, Scotty, Frankie, Charlie and former Shadows Fall guitarist, Jonathan Donais, cruised through a greatest hits inspired set-list that locked in the audience for the entire show.

At one point, Joey Belladonna remarked that they didn’t know what to expect when they signed on to play the Arizona State Fair. Well, what they got was a very enthusiastic and adoring crowd that soaked in every note and every beat of every song. I saw some homemade Anthrax banners and plenty of their shirts being worn among the living…err…I mean the crowd. Joey even made sure that those working in the photo pit had fun, borrowing cameras to take photos and rolling live video of those in attendance.

Anthrax concluded their set with an encore of “Indians” finishing with Pantera’s “Cowboys From Hell” as an outro which in turn blew the roof off the place. As the amped up crowd left the coliseum and dispersed throughout the fairgrounds to possibly take on the Remix ride and/or wolf down a bacon wrapped turkey leg, I couldn’t help but think if it’s in the realm of possibility that Metallica would perform at the Arizona State Fair someday? Megadeth would probably be more likely and for the record, Dave Mustaine looks like some of the animals at the petting zoo nowadays. More...

Napalm Death Premiere New Music Video

Napalm Death debut a new music video for their track “Standardization” from their recently released rarities compilation, “Coded Smears And More Uncommon Truths“. Comments frontman Mark “Barney” Greenway:

“Videos I find one of the trickiest mediums to make vibrant and impactful. Costin, the producer though, had a lot of stuff from our Roadburn Festival presentation which seemed to fit the music quite nicely and reflect the song’s subject matter about the utter despair of a colourless life and desire of a more conservative forces for a homogenous world according to gender, sexuality, human habits and, well, generally everything. No thanks!”

Dave Mustaine Suggests Touring As "The Big Three"

With Slayer calling it quits after one final world tour, Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine lately expressed his hopes that "The Big Four" (Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax) would perform at least one more show before they officially become "The Big Three".

In a recent interview Mustaine further spoke of the potential for a few more shows from the "Big Four" and the possibility that they do it without Metallica, who appear to be the holdout. Says Mustaine:

"I think if you asked the three of us that, our camps would probably say yes. If Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth all want to do it, and Metallica doesn’t, then what do we do? The Big Three? I’m sure that a lot of people would like to see that, and that may be what it is. You know, you may end up having it be the Big Three plus No. 5 if we have Exodus play with it. But it’s not about just doing concerts for the sake of concerts. It was about the movement. It was about what we did together as a group.

Excluding Anthrax, we’re all like neighbors almost ’cause we all lived so close. It was just a half hour to an hour at at most between each other’s houses on the freeway. So, I think it would be great to do more "Big Four" stuff - do one in Japan. Do one in South America - we never did one in South America; we haven’t done one in Asia. Give the people an opportunity to see it before it goes away forever."

Slayer's Touring Partners Speak About Trek

Members of Lamb Of God, Behemoth, Testament and Anthrax have spoken about their upcoming tour of North America with Slayer, which is part of the headliner's, "End Of Days" farewell tour. Lamb Of God frontman Randy Blythe had this to say:

"If you are lucky enough to be invited to play even just once with living legends like Slayer, it's an incredible honor. Slayer gave Lamb Of God our very first two overseas shows. Slayer has subsequently taken us on several full-length tours, both at home and abroad. The guys in Slayer and their crew have also always been very, very cool to our band. It is irrefutable that Slayer helped create the genre of aggressive metal, and all modern bands of that ilk owe them a huge debt - I know we do. To be asked to be a part of their final tour - well, it just makes you stop and realize just how lucky you are. Hail Slayer! We'll see you on the road..."

Testament vocalist Chuck Billy added: "Sharing the stage with Slayer once again is going to be an honor, and to be a part of the final tour is going to be a special privilege for us. Slayer has influenced so many aggressive bands in their career. This tour will be an epic time for all who attend. Do yourself a favor and clear your calendars when this show comes to town. This will be your last chance to see a tour like this. Get ready North America for the devastation." More...
