The Pulse of Radio (formerly Launch Radio Networks) reports: SYSTEM OF A DOWN frontman Serj Tankian has named his new solo touring band the FCC, according to HardDrive Radio. The letters do not stand for the dreaded Federal Communications Commission, but for something that they'll fine you for if you say it on the air. Tankian told The Pulse of Radio what he and the band came up with. "We just named the band, and I liked the idea of the FCC — you know, the FCC in the U.S. stands for the Federal Communications Commission, which is the governmental body that assigns penalties for cuss words," he said. "And I thought it would be great to make the FCC a cuss word, that way they can penalize themselves. So the FCC is, our interpretation, is the FLYING C***S OF CHAOS."
The lineup of the FCC includes PRIMUS guitarist Larry LaLonde as well as several friends of Tankian's who are unknown to the public but are "amazing musicians," according to the singer.
Contrary to earlier reports, former PRIMUS and GUNS N'ROSES drummer Brian "Brain" Mantia will not be in the touring band, although he did play on Tankian's debut solo album, "Elect the Dead", due out on October 23.
FAIR TO MIDLAND, who are signed to Tankian's Serjical Strike label, will open a few shows on Tankian's first-ever solo tour, which begins on October 12 in Chicago.
Fair To Midland just played two "crazy, sold-out shows" supporting the Smashing Pumpkins, did a bunch of shows with Evans Blue, and next week they set out to tour the UK and Europe to tour with Dir En Gray, where they'll play festivals like Wacken, M’era Luna and Metal Hammer, and headline the Kerrang! Awards Week show in London on August 18th.

Dallas-based quintet FAIR TO MIDLAND have just inked a deal with Serjical Strike Records, the label headed by SYSTEM OF A DOWN frontman Serj Tankian. The band that had been touted by Music Connection as one of the top 100 unsigned bands of 2005 can no longer carry that distinction in 2006, as they embark on their new journey of becoming heralded as one of the top signed bands for years to come.
Founded by members Andrew Sudderth (vocals) and Cliff Campbell (guitars) and later solidified by Brett Stowers (drums), Jon Dicken (bass) and Matt Langley (keyboards), FAIR TO MIDLAND has been working diligently with a D.I.Y. ethic that has generated "inter.funda.stifle", their independently recorded and distributed album that has kept them consistently touring throughout the United States in support of it.
With a sound that has been described as a "mutant offspring of RUSH, PINK FLOYD, DREAM THEATER, THE MARS VOLTA, GARY NUMAN and PANTERA," FAIR TO MIDLAND have crafted a live show that is as invigorating as it is enlightening by fusing visceral energy and amazing musicianship that has gripped all that have seen them play, including Tankian.
After hearing "inter.funda.stifle", Tankian was anxious to see the band perform and had the opportunity to do so this past January at Sunset Strip hotspot The Roxy Theater in Hollywood, followed by a second show two nights later in Malibu. It was seeing the live show that had him itching to be involved with the band through his label Serjical Strike as well as offering to executive produce FAIR TO MIDLAND's next studio offering.
"They are one of the best live unsigned bands I have ever seen," said Tankian. "Their songs are moody and dynamic, not dependent on one catchy beat or emotion to present their art."
Currently writing new songs for a future release on Serjical Strike Records, FAIR TO MIDLAND also have a few shows slated in their native state of Texas and into neighboring Oklahoma throughout April and May. Their performance at the Granada Theater in Dallas on May 12 is an unofficial celebration for the signing and will definitely be one that is not easily forgotten.
