The Batallion, the band consisting of past and current members of Old Funeral, Grimfist, Taake, Bömbers and Borknagar, is ready to unleash hell upon the world. The album "The Stronghold of Men" will be released through Dark Essence Records in Norway on March 17 and worldwide on April 21.
The album was recorded and mixed in Conclave Studios and produced by Bart Schlegermeister and contain 11 tracks of "kick-ass old-school thrash metal." The album features guest vocals by none other than Abbath (Immortal), who is also a big fan of the band.
Tracks from the upcoming The Batallion album, "Stronghold of Men," can be previewed on Last.fm. You can also download the song "The Spirit of Masculinity" for free from the same page and stream their music from MySpace.
Norway's GORELORD has inked a deal with Sworn Records.
GORELORD is the one-man "deathgroove" project of Frediablo, formerly of NECROPHAGIA, GRIMFIST and HEMNUR. According to a press release, "GORELORD stands for heavy, groove-infested death metal with a very strong horror theme."
GORELORD's new album, "Chapter IV - Hellbound", is tentatively scheduled for release late summer. A song from the CD and the album's cover artwork can be found on the Sworn Records MySpace page.
GORELORD has so far released three albums and two split EPs. The project's third full-length CD, "Norwegian Chainsaw Massacre", was issued in 2006 via Coffin Records and Red Stream Inc.
Former NECROPHAGIA/GRIMFIST guitarist Frediablo has set posted a "raw, unmixed new track" taken from GORELORD's forthcoming album, "Chapter IV – Hellbound", due sometime next year. According to Frediablo, "the new material is sounding massive. I'm going all faster, slower, groovier and all in all just more 'GORELORD-sounding' than ever before!"
Check out the song "Bloodshot Cadaver Apocalypse" at this location.
In other news, Frediablo has announced that GORELORD and Red Stream/Baphomet Records have split. "Things just didn't work out, but GORELORD has already found a new label home," he said. "An official statement regarding the new working relationship will be [issued] as soon as all the legal shit is taken care of. Either way, I'm happy as fuck!"
GRIMFIST guitarist Ole Walaunet of Norway's GRIMFIST has issued the following update:
"GRIMFIST welcomes Morten Muller on vocals and Birger Larsen on bass!! The guys are also members in DEAD TROOPER. We've been rehearsing in Oslo and are fired up and ready to fucking slay with this lineup!!! We're confident that these bastards are the right guys for the job, and will bring the band further to the next level."
The new GRIMFIST lineup will make its live debut on May 25 at Club Maiden in Oslo, Norway.
GRIMFIST's sophomore album, "10 Steps to Hell", was released in October 2005 via Candlelight Records. Recorded at Subsonic Society Studios (DISMEMBER, SUSPERIA) and mixed at Studio Fredman (IN FLAMES, THE HAUNTED), "Ten Steps to Hell" is said to be a "riff assault. . . guitars and vocals both firmly presented in-your-face style wrapped around an intense rhythm that recalls what made the initial thrash genre so energetic."i'm
Norway's GRIMFIST has issued the following update:
"As many of you know, Frediablo sent out a statement a couple of weeks ago, about how fed up he is with being in a metal band, the genre and all that goes with it. Since we were already booked to do the Hole In The Sky festival and the Eternal Anger tour, he would do that and end it after the tour. We felt there was no point doing the gigs with him since he's not dedicated to the genre anymore, and have therefore recruited another excellent vocalist. We'll still remain as good friends and best of luck to Fred in the future, hopefully he'll find his path.
"The new guy joining us is Tommy Hjelm (INSENSE) and is a very dedicated and professional guy. He can basically do all kinds of vocal styles within metal. Note: We will not go out and say this is the new permanent vocalist, for now we will do the festival and the tour. If it works out killer, we'll take it from there. On bass, we'll be joined by Dreggen (DEATHCON, AETERNUS) a very talented guy totally dedicated to heavy music.
"A couple of weeks ago we all met in Oslo for a weekend of rehearsal. I can say this, the band worked really well together, and sounded fucking massive. We got to record the whole setlist and just now I got MP3s with Tommy doing his vocals on it. I'm really fucking impressed!! More...

HEMNUR, the black metal project led by GRIMFIST vocalist Frediablo (GORELORD, ex-NECROPHAGIA) entered GodFed Studios on June 6 to begin recording their sophomore album, entitled "Kalde Faen". The follow-up to 2005's "Satanic Hellride" (Infernus Rex) is being described in a press release as "another primitive and vulgar black metal attack."
"Kalde Faen" will feature a guest appearance by CHTON frontman Terje on the track "Hell Is Dead". Another surprise guest appearance will be announced on the newly designed official HEMNUR web site within the next couple of days. A fall release via Infernus Rex is expected.

Norway's Grimfist have set "10 Steps to Hell" as the title of their forthcoming album, tentatively due later in the year.
The CD was recorded at SubSonic Society with engineer Lars Klokkerhaug (Enslaved, Darkthrone, Red Harvest), mixed at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden, and mastered at Tailor Maid Production in Stockholm. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Separation of My Soul", "Unborn", "The Power", "Reap the Fire", "Tools of the Trade", "Fight or Die", "Breed Apart", "Ashes of the Gods", "Touched by a Shadow of Evil", and "On the Wings of a Demon".
"This album will be a crushing, grimmer release with bigger contrasts and variations, but all in true Grimfist style!!" the band writes on their web site.
Grimfist guitarist Ole Walaunet has issued the following update on the Norwegian band's upcoming activities:
"As some of you've noticed, we're confirmed for the Inferno kick-off show in London on the 27th of January.
"With regards to the line-up... In early January, Dustin Pearl is coming over from California to join Grimfist! An awesome drummer and a great fucking guy. If everything works out well, he'll become the permanent skinsman for Grimfist. We are extremely excited and can't wait to start bashing our heads together! The mighty Ares from Aeternus is joining us on bass as a session musician. This will be Grimfist's debut-gig, so we wanna see you guys go fucking nuts over there!!
"In a couple of weeks I'm heading up to Skarrabakje and the sunnmørske Trollish mountains for another session of pre-production alongside Frediablo in Godfed Studio. I CAN promise you this: The new album will fucking slay!"
Arcturus and Mantas are the first two bands officially confirmed for next year's Infermo Festival, which will be happening on March 24-25 at the Rockefeller and John Dee venues in Oslo, Norway.
The next two bands will be announced on December 24. Also, a kick- off party is to be held on January 27th at the Underworld in London. Bands performing live will be Arcturus, Enslaved, Red Harvest, Madder Mortem and Grimfist.
Chton, the Norwegian death metal band featuring Kenneth of Keep Of Kalessin and Torstein of Manes, won a "Silver Frame" award at the Euro-Filmforum Scandinavia festival in Oslo for their video "Book of Black Earth" (Windows Media). Also, photographer Lars Wara won a prize for one of the pictures he took of the band during the video shoot. Wara is featured in a two-page spread in this month's issue of the Norwegian photo magazine Fotografi.
Chton's debut album, "Chtonian Lifecode", was recorded, mixed and mastered at Godt Selskap Studio between April and June 2004 and was released in August through Retribute Records. The album includes guest vocals by Attila Csihar (ex-Mayhem, Tormentor) and Frediablo (Necrophagia, Grimfist). A full-length MP3 of the album track "Unholy Communion" can be downloaded at this location.
The organizers of Norway's Inferno Metal Festival 2005 will begin selling tickets for next year's event on Monday, November 1. Advance tickets will be sold at the symbolic price of 666 NOK.
The first bands confirmed to play the festival will be revealed on December 1 and December 24. The complete lineup will be announced at the kick-off event at the Underworld in London on January 27. Groups scheduled to perform at the kick-off event include Arcturus, Enslaved, Red Harvest, Grimfist and Madder Mortem. A Norwegian kick-off party will take place two days later (Jan. 29) at John Dee in Oslo. The lineup of groups performing at the Norwegian kick-off event will be announced in December.
Inferno Metal Festival 2005 will take place on March 24-25 at the Rockefeller and John Dee venues in Oslo. A total of 30 bands will be performing at the festival.
Arcturus, Enslaved, Red Harvest, Grimfist and Madder Mortem are the first confirmed bands for the U.K. edition of the Inferno Metal Festival, set to be held on Thursday, January 27, 2005 at The Underworld in Camden.
Commented the festival's organizers, "Inferno Metal Festival's arrangers realize that the international interest has increased with staggering speed and as a result of this we have decided to do an Inferno event in London.
"Since this is an Inferno event, we’ll announce the full festival line-up for 2005 exclusively to the U.K. audience. In Norway this will happen two days later.
"During the day we will in cooperation with Bylarm (Norway's equivalent to 'In the City'), have a press/partner gathering with press-conference, get-together, lots of freebies and more. And of course an eventful musical evening.
"The plan is to make this an annual event, and maybe expand to 2-3 consecutive days, or even different cities."
Former IMMORTAL/current GRIMFIST drummer Horgh has officially joined HYPOCRISY. Horgh replaces longtime HYPOCRISY skinsman Lars Szöke, who reportedly left the band because of his unwillingness to tour for long periods of time.
"Lars still wants to play drums," HYPOCRISY mainman Peter Tägtgren explained to Norway's Scream magazine, "but not with the hectic schedule HYPOCRISY has had the last months, and still is going to have for most of 2004.
"I can't wait to go on tour with this new lineup!" Peter stated about the group's latest addition. "I think it will be so cool to have Horgh's blast beats in our songs!"
Horgh's decision to join HYPOCRISY has forced GRIMFIST to cancel their appearance at this year's Inferno Metal Festival, where they were scheduled to perform alongside MAYHEM, MY DYING BRIDE and DECAPITATED, among others. A replacement act has yet to be announced.
HYPOCRISY will be embarking on a U.S. tour with CANNIBAL CORPSE, EXHUMED and VILE beginning on February 12 in Houston, Texas.
My Dying Bride and Grimfist (featuring Horgh of Immortal) are the two latest bands to be confirmed for the Inferno Festival, taking place April 8-10 in Oslo, Norway at the Rockefeller/John Dee. Bands so far confirmed are Mayhem, Decapitated, My Dying Bride and Grimfist, with the full list being announced on January 24th.
