After releasing ninth full-length album “landwarijaR,” Norwegian Viking metal crew Helheim now unleashes a second video from the album. Check out “Ymr” below.
Like the preceding video for "Baklengs mot intet,” new clip “Ymr” was directed by Guilherme Henriques, and this time the band concentrates on live footage from Inside Live & Rock Café bt Mathis Backe interspersed with film of some of the glorious scenery that surrounds Helheim's home town of Bergen.
Helheim's V’gandr explains: “With 'Ymr' Helheim explores the terrain that might result from the complete enlightenment of knowledge. The tree of life is the symbol of this path and you may wonder if this enlightenment is of a positive or of a negative energy. When the One with the one eye closes it, that is when we must open up ours and see what lies ahead. 'Ymr' is the primal scream, the essence of man and to grow from there you have to climb. Whereas 'Baklengs mot intet' showed no hope in its cloak of negativity, 'Ymr' might kindle a tiny spark – but that’s up to the eye of the beholder or should I say, the ears of the listener.” More...

This will not be the first time that Viking metallers HELHEIM join forces with avant-garde metallers, and Dark Essence Records stable mates, VULTURE INDUSTRIES to tour. Commented HELHEIM frontman and bass player V'gandr, "We have all known each other for far too long, and the last couple of tours we did together was fun to do, to put it mildly. It helps to know who you are dealing with — there's nothing worse than touring with someone you don't get on with, and we can always be sure that there will be plenty of laughs and beer flowing on the way with the VULTURE INDUSTRIES guys."
HELHEIM recently caused a sensation in Norway when it launched its "Kaoskult" album in front of an audience of young children in a kindergarten.
Following the departure of guitarist Thorbjørn, Norwegian viking metallers HELHEIM have announced that his replacement will be SYRACH guitarist Noralf, who had filled in for his predecessor during the band’s recent European tour.
Thorbjørn’s decision to leave the band was taken after he felt that he wanted to concentrate more on other projects based on 70s metal/rock.
In a statement issued today, drummer Hrymr said, “We are truly sorry that Thorbjørn has decided to leave the band. He has been a central part of Helheim since he joined us in 1999. We owe many fantastic riffs and great ideas to that weird mind of his! Along with Lindheim and others he intends to focus on his project SINKING SEA, and we wish him great success for the future. On a positive note though, we have not had to go through a long process to find his replacement. Noralf is a fantastic guitarist, and he has already played and toured with us, so we know that he is the right person for the band. This will not affect his work with Syrach, and we are very happy he decided to join us permanently; we consider ourselves fortunate to get him.” More...
To mark the release of their new album, "Kaoskult", Norwegian Viking metallers HELHEIM have a second song from the album available for free download.
Due to hit the streets on Monday, April 21, "Kaoskult" is HELHEIM's sixth release, and its second on the Dark Essence label. The nine-track album presents a new maturity from the band, who have explored a more varied, and melodic side to their music. Written by guitarist Thorbjørn, with lyrics by Vgandr, "Kaoskult" was produced by Bjørnar Nilsen, who also contributes guest vocals.
HELHEIM debuted some of the new tracks during the band's recent tour with fellow Norwegians VULTURE INDUSTRIES and German black metallers DARK FORTRESS.
Commented drummer Hrymr: "The tour lineup was particularly interesting because none of the bands were from the same genre, and we were wondering a little how the new material would go down, not only with our own fans, who are used to a faster, more aggressive style of playing from us, but also from fans of the other bands, who were not necessarily into our brand of metal. We were selling the album in advance of release at the gigs, and if sales are anything to go by fans are liking the new directions we are taking. That's not to say we have abandoned the old HELHEIM sound, you will still find that, but we have developed and expanded — you can't keep churning out the same thing over and over again, it gets boring for the band to play, and boring for the fans to listen to. From the reactions we have been receiving our fans were ready to progress with us, which is always satisfying to any band, and equally satisfying is the number of new fans who heard the material on the tour, and have joined the ranks so to speak!"
Norwegian black/viking metal band HELHEIM have issued the following update:
"The release date for Helheim's upcoming album, Kasokult, has changed release date for Norway - the album will now be April 21st everywhere."
"To remedy this, we will release more free previews than earlier intended. We start with giving you a good start of the week with the Kaoskult version of 'Northern Forces' (click here to download)."
Some other new song titles on Kaoskult include: 'Det Norrøne Alter', 'Element', 'Altered Through Ages, Constant In Time', 'Symboler Bakover Og Framover'. More...
