Latest Freak Kitchen News
Below is our complete Freak Kitchen news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Swedish experimental metal act Freak Kitchen, featuring Planet Alliance guitarist Mattias IA Eklundh, has announced that the band's new album will be entitled "Cooking With Pagans."
The album will be issued on September 16th in North America via Lasers Edge Records, and this will be the band's first release in five years since 2009's "Land of the Freaks" (reviewed here).
Thanks to a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign, bringing in almost $150,000, a very ambitious animated video directed by legendary artist (and author of Blacksad) Juanjo Guarnido to the track "Freak of the Week" is in production by a world-class team of animators. The video will premiere at Comic Con in New York this October.
Freak Kitchen has always been a respected live act and for the first time the energetic live vibe of the band has been captured in the studio. With influences stretching from AC/DC to classical South Indian music the three Norsemen truly have a sound of their own. "Cooking with Pagans" offers eleven intense original songs plus a sophisticated punk pop version of the 1936 hit "Goody Goody" like you've never heard it before.
Mattias IA Eklundh commented: "You can expect a beefy rock album, freak style. I think that Cooking With Pagans finally has the sound and energy of Freak Kitchen live; the energy and rawness. It is anything but overproduced, stripped down, drums, bass and guitar. To the point."
The band will tour the world from November and the better part of 2015 to support the new release. The track listing for "Cooking With Pagans" is:
1. Professional Help
2. Freak of the Week
4. Goody Goody
5. (Saving Up For An) Anal Bleach
6. Private Property
7. Methematics of Defeat
8. I Don't Want to Golf
10. Come Back to Comeback
11. Ranks of the Terrified
12. Once Upon a Time in Scandanaviastan More...

The Lasers Edge is pleased to announce a release campaign of the entire Freak Kitchen back catalog, beginning with 2009's "Land of the Freaks." The following press release was issued about the re-releases:
"Although extremely popular around the world, access to Freak Kitchen's music in North America has previously been limited to expensive imports through specialist dealers. Europe's best kept musical secret is a secret no more!
"Freak Kitchen is a progressive power trio consisting of three renowned virtuoso musicians: Mattia "IA" Eklundh (guitar/vocals), Christfer Ortefors (bass), and Bjorn Fryklun (drums). The band was formed by IA in 1992 and since then they have conquered audiences around the world with their high energy performances.
"The members of the band are road dogs, performing constantly as Freak Kitchen and individually as clinicians. Freak Kitchen 's music is an amalgam of styles - equal parts hard rock, heavy metal, and progressive rock blended together with a healthy dose of Zappa-esque humor. Land of the Freaks features quite a bit of inspiration from Indian music and finds the trio joined by two guest musicians - V. Selvaganesh and Neyveli S Radharkrisha. More...
