U.K. black metal sorcerers The Meads of Asphodel are currently filming what is absolutely sure to be a controversial visual display of their anthem "Apocalypse of Lazarus." "Apocalypse of Lazarus," is taken from the band's recently-released anti-puritanical full-length album, "The Murder of Jesus The Jew" (reviewed here). The video is set for completion in early June.
In the words of the band's central creator Metatron, on the content of the upcoming video, "It will be about the 'end of days fire and brimstone' bullshit Christianity spouts towards other denominations. A God-fearing anthem to the ignorant."
Stay tuned for more info on the video as it is completed and unleashed upon the world during the hellish Summer months ahead. Metalunderground.com's interview with Metatron about the album is also available for reading at this location.
This weekend, in “celebration” of the Easter Holiday, Candlelight Records and Calgary’s Megawatt Mayhem will broadcast the entire 63-minute long epic, "The Murder Of Jesus The Jew," the latest album from English avant-garde black metal bastards The Meads of Asphodel.
The festivities will kick off at the stroke of midnight (EST), for the first moments of the Easter holiday, this Sunday, April 24th. Megawatt Mayhem is broadcast online via CJSW 90.9FM’s official website, so thrill-seeking metalheads worldwide are invited to take part in the festivities. Tune in at this location.
A press release about the album states, "The album details the historical life of Jesus (Yeshua), the Jewish rabbi who was slaughtered on a tree by the Romans on a cold Winter day 2000 years ago, and thereafter his people condemned to be pariahs of the earth due to Christian hatred. It is ironic that the Jewish roots of the Christian church have been erased and the blame of their man-god’s death cruelly placed upon a people already broken by the yoke of Roman imperialism. Truth is often blinded by faith, none more so than the story of Jesus and his maligned people."
The upcoming fourth full-length release from U.K. act The Meads of Asphodel, entitled "The Murder of Jesus The Jew," is set for North American release via Candlelight Records on January 11, 2011. The new song "My Psychotic Sand Deity" is also currently available for streaming a through Stereogum at this location.
"The Murder of Jesus The Jew" track listing is as follows:
1. Boiled In Hell Broth And Grave Dust (Intro)
2. My Psychotic Sand Deity
3. Apocalypse Of Lazarus
4. Addicted To God
5. Stiller Of Tempests
6. Man From Kerioth
7. Dark Gethsemane
8. Jew Killer
9. Genesis Of Death
10. From Eagle To Cross
11. Apostle Of The Uncircumcised
12. A Canticle for the lost amputees of Aelia Capitolina who have been trampled under the iron shod hooves of salivating Hell Rams and impaled on the shimmering tusks of salvation within the abandoned tabernacle of a Bronze Age myth
Artists Sam Korvus, creator and front man of UK Black Metal band KORVUS, has made a guest appearance on “Opaque Liquid Soul”, the debut track from EVERLASTING DESCENT. Formed in 2006, EVERLASTING DESCENT is the side project of Elle Torry (WORMS OF SABNOCK, MEADS OF ASPHODEL) and Sander Wessels (THE WOUNDED). The track, “Opaque Liquid Soul” was originally recorded in December of that year, but due to location, Torry is UK based, while Wessels is based in Holland, and some technical difficulties, completion had to be delayed until recently. The track can be heard on Everlasting Descent's MySpace page.
In addition to providing the vocals, Korvus, who as well as being an artist, is also a producer specialising in extreme music, mixed and mastered the track and handled the drum programming. Unlike his own project KORVUS, which is one of the innovators in the current resurgence of UK Black Metal, EVERLASTING DESCENT play a unique blend of progressive Death Metal.
KORVUS’ debut album, “In the Name of Lucifer” was released in September 2007 on his own independent label, Korvus Productions. Commenting on why he chose to release and produce the album himself, as well as record all the instruments and vocals, Sam Korvus says: “Working as an independent artist creates a great advantage in that it allows me to have complete control over every aspect of my music, rather than trying to describe to someone else how I want it to sound. Production plays a huge role in creating the right atmosphere on any piece, so it is important for me to be in control of that side of the music, as well as the performance and composition. This is also one of the reasons I chose to set up my own label rather than sign my music away to someone else. I have heard too many cases of labels forcing their artists to compromise their music in a way that results in its losing the most important elements, and I am not willing to make that compromise”.
The band’s live line up is augmented by Liam Peaston on rhythm guitars, James Dickenson on bass, and Sam Curtis on drums. Tracks from KORVUS’ “In the Name of Lucifer” can be heard on the band’s official MySpace page.
DEATH TO MUSIC prodcutions have fulfilled all "anti-contractual obligations" by providing 10 releases (albums & EPs) for free over the past few months - available via the official website, www.deathtomusic.com.
Death To Music productions is the new "anti - record label" founded by James Fogarty - previously of experimental metal project Ewigkeit, also a former founding member of Black Metallers The Meads Of Asphodel, and was launched in order to release music for music's sake rather than the usual money-driven route of labels / distros / magazines in order to get music heard.
"...all these fucking labels and other vampires of the music industry are just not neccesary anymore for artists writing and releasing music in more underground styles - for me and many, many other hard-working musicians & bands, our music is first & foremostly about getting your stuff heard by people, and certainly not about working your arse off to make money for other people..."
"..as a statement of intent, I have now given away everything I have ever recorded, and now look forwards to working with new projects and artists on Death To Music....."
James was tired of having to deal with record labels who didnt treat their artists fairly, and subsequently burnt all his record contracts and reclaimed the music (see the video here)
The first physical release is out now in the form of James Fogarty's new politico-industrial metal project The Bombs Of Enduring Freedom's self-titled debut album. You can check out some of their material on the band's MySpace page.
2008 will see the release of more projects who are choosing to collaborate with Death To Music productions in order to get their music heard, rather than the usual route of labels / distros / magazines. More...
