Guitarist Ol Drake of the up-and-coming UK thrashers EVILE has issued the following update:
"So we've pretty much started writing material for the second album. As some of you might know, we like take a long time writing our stuff, so we might as well start as early as possible."
"Over the past month or so we've been playing around with some new riffs, thinking about re-working old riffs/parts (not neceserilly demo tracks) and using riffs that have been sat there waiting to pulverize people's families."
"Just last night we were jamming through a new song called 'dhgsaghkghsklgsdlhkgfngn' (this'll probably be re-named when we think of a good title) and we got to a part we weren't sure about. After about 30 minutes of talking crap to each other and trying to figure something out, Matt started playing a riff for a mess-around. My ears instantly... heard it. I love it when that happens. We're stuck and not sure which direction to go, and something just falls into place. After that we spent the next many hours fiddling with that original idea and building on it." More...

Commented vocalist Maurizio Iacono: "We had so [much] killer feedback on the artwork but especially on the character that we decided to keep him as the band's fifth band member... kinda like IRON MAIDEN did with 'Eddie.' We have the perfect concept for the next album art... it will be bad-ass!"

"It's been awesome touring with two great bands who just happened to be awesome people too. In Sanctity's case we were un-sure what to expect, as our past experiences with American bands hasn't been too good, but they're such awesome guys. This tour's just been 100% fun and pleasure."
The brutality of the thrashers coming out to see them was definitely in full force, as Ol recounts an instance at a show in Scotland. He explains:
"Some guy got knocked out and taken to Hospital in Glasgow. He's ok now though. BRUTAL. you can't keep a Thrasher down.
It's just been an all around blast. Cheers to all who came out and took the time to watch Evile, and Cheers to our new mates Sanctity and RMD. Thrash you all again soon."

Guitarist Ol Drake of up-and-coming U.K. thrashers EVILE — whose Flemming Rassmusen-produced (METALLICA, MORBID ANGEL) debut album, "Enter the Grave", will be released on August 27 via Earache Records — has posted the following statement regarding illegally distributed copies of the CD, which is currently making the rounds on torrent sites and via various file-sharing networks:
"If someone downloads an album I think it makes the album sound alot fucking worse.
"Growing up when I bought CDs, I loved having the whole package to it. Vinyl or CD, I'd leaf through everything while listening to it. In a way, getting a feel for the album. I don't understand people who would still have a file on their computer over a fucking old-school CD. It's beyond me why someone could be so disrespectful towards a band by downloading an album, liking it, and not buying it. They're not supporting that band, it's plain stealing. Illegal? Duh?
"I remember at a meeting with the label, we were told about a signing with MORBID ANGEL where a kid brought a CD-R burn of an album up and asked for them to sign it. He just got told to fuck right off regardless of his 'I love MORBID ANGEL' comments. That's how I see it, good for them.
"For me, an album's packaging has alway affected how good an album is. If it's a great album with great packaging/artwork, there's nothing better (METALLICA '…And Justice for All', SEPULTURA 'Beneath the Remains'/'Arise'). If it's got shite artwork, it somehow doesnt come across as good as it should to me (MEGADETH 'Risk', ANNIHILATOR 'Remains'). So when someone downloads something and they don't even have any packaging to go by, they just have the songs on a computer with a shitty little jpeg of the cover, I think it ultimately makes the songs sound not as good. When I hear [METALLICA's] 'Master of Puppets' I (somehow) kind of hear/see that awesome cover, the pictures of the band in the booklet and get a feel for the band at that point in time in their career. The packaging is a landmark in the band's progression and career, why wouldn't someone want that? We put a fuckload of work into the actual packaging and layout/feel of the whole CD, not just the writing and recording. People don't realise that. They're paying for more than just the music. We sat down and spent alot of time thinking and working on how we could make a CD package that would appeal to the people we wrote the music for. Just like we did for the music. Just like all other bands who made packaging for their CDs.
"For a band like EVILE, we're just starting out. Downloading will affect us more than people think. We aren't METALLICA, They've no huge worry about their product not selling. If we sell hardly anything people don't realise how much that can contribute to us not making another CD. It's really that simple."
UltimateMetal.com's Jason Jordan recently conducted an interview with EVILE guitarist Ol Drake. The following is an excerpt from the chat:
Q: It’s no secret that acclaimed producer Flemming Rasmussen, who produced METALLICA's finest albums, turned the knobs on Enter The Grave. Did Rasmussen exercise any creative control over your arrangements like Steven Wilson did with OPETH? If not, what was he like as a producer? Did he tell you anything interesting about Metallica that the average metalhead may not know?
A: "Flemming flew over to go through pre-production with us a few weeks before recording. He first came to one of our shows at glamorous Bradford. The next day he visited our rehearsal space (rundown warehouse with carpet) and we sat down and played through our 10 proposed songs. He sat and watched/listened. After each song he’d go through the good and bad parts of the songs. Funnily enough he liked pretty much all of it. I think there were only three or four things in all the 10 songs he made changes to for the better. As a producer he’s brilliant. I’ve said it before but he’s such a laidback, cool guy. It’s hard to not get on with him. His vision for the album was 95% exactly the same as ours. Things about Metallica the average metalhead may not know? Yes. Lars actually played ‘Dyers Eve’ so shut the fuck up already!"
