"The Big Shiny Prison" Available As Free PDF

Ryan Bartek has made his new book "The Big Shiny Prison" available as a free PDF download. The book can be found at this location. "The Big Shiny Prison" is an expose on various forms of underground music ranging from extreme metal to punk to rock. Interviews are included in the book with bands such as Cephalic Carnage, Pig Destroyer, and Abysmal Dawn. Bartek issued the following statement about the book:

"My name is Ryan Bartek. For the past 3 years I’ve sacrificed everything for the successful completion of this project. I spent a year on the road, another year completing & shopping it, and another year of total rejection. It is only karmically fitting that both the demise of magazine & book publishing come in one fell swoop.

"I was never in it for the money, nor the aspect of celebrity. I have spent an upwards of $10,000 on it, which I remark only to underline my absolute sincerity. No one would deny its quality -- but the raw nature of the work, as well as its excessive length, made it impossible to pigeon hole or successfully shop. Nothing quite like it has ever surfaced, at least not in the format I’ve undertaken.

"After this seemingly endless struggle, I have decided to offer it to the public domain. While I retain the copyright/trademark, I both encourage and support file sharing. It is my only wish that this manuscript be circulated & appreciated. Perhaps when all is said and done, someone might offer a physical print run."

Cephalic Carnage Comments on Failed Tour

You may have read a few days ago that the Idaho Blackenedfest show was canceled without reason. It appears as though the whole tour was canceled. Cephalic Carnage released the following statement:

"So, unfortunately, we were reluctantly forced to stay in Denver as the Blackenedfest Tour was unable to continue. We sincerely apologize to the friends and fans who've been waiting a while to see us and this tour. We want to thank Thunderdome for having us out, as we had an absolutely amazing time with Withered, Cattle Decapitation, all the crew and of course Mayham. We promise to make up the dates we didn't get to play...we ALMOST had the $70 dollar-a-shirt-cool-guy-tight-shirt company Affliction ready to pay for us to be helicoptered to the each of the rest of the tour dates, but they pulled the deal after they found out we stopped shaving our legs which was the part of the contract we decided we couldn't go through with, (except John). Anyways we've got some serious time off now, and we're going to commence with getting our long awaited reality-tv DVD completed, getting on with writing the next full length, and writing the 2nd installment of H.O.A., as well as finishing construction of our late night poutine stand, where we will serve country-fried giraffe eggs and your favorite French-Canadian specialty.
