Black Mourning Light 2017 Lineup Revealed

Born out the hell storm of Edmonton, AB, the black and doom metal festival Black Mourning Light presented by Crown of Viserys and GigFly.ca will unleash the most brutal line up to date for the 2017 edition hosted on October 13th and 14th at the Starlite Room.

This year's infernal ritual features legends from Canada's black metal scene with headliners Revenge, Blasphemy Rites Of Thy Degringolade, and Antichrist. Joining the line up from the United States is Montana's blackened death crew Fortress, Los Angeles black / death legends Gravehill, and Ohio's nefarious Funeral of God. From the surrounding Western Canadian metal scene, the carnage is intensified with Xul, Ares Infernus, Sorguinazia, Scythra, and Goathammer.

BML organizer Dustin Ekman comments: "This year we are taking extreme to a new level for Black Mourning Light, and I couldn't be more honoured to have true legends in black metal on the festival. Revenge and Blasphemy are two of the biggest names in black metal, and with them are some of the best bands in the world to create an absolutely killer lineup. Revenge Announces "Behold.Total.Rejection"

The Canadian black metal chaos extremists who make up Revenge have completed work on their 5th full length album. The new album has been titled "Behold.Total.Rejection" and will be released by Season of Mist on November 13.

Among the album's tracks include "Desolation Insignia," "Hate Nomad," "Wolf Slave Protocol (Choose Your Side)," "Scum Defection (Outsider Neutralized)," and more. The album artwork and official track list will be released in the weeks to come. The band comments:

"With 'Behold.Total.Rejection,' Revenge maintains a lone-wolf approach despite joining Season of Mist’s venerable roster of bands. Although history has repeatedly proven that a transition to a higher profile label tends to yield a watering down of the content and intensity of most bands’ music, in the case of Revenge 'Behold.Total.Rejection' reflects the exact opposite effect.

"This album is a manifesto of rejection – rejection of the groundswell of mediocrity within the scene, rejection of compromise as a means of embracing of a wider audience, rejection of the dogma and strictures of religion and the trappings of the feeble social slave. Since the band’s inception, each album has explored and refined the philosophical and ideological core that drives the band’s music and imagery. Revenge extols the virtues of the uncompromising self at war with the banality of complacent existence and the common man: debased and docile, living on his knees feeding at the trough of inferiority. Black Witchery Releasing Split With Revenge

Fifteen years ago, Black Witchery and Conqueror, both still virtually unknown outside of a small cult of maniacal blasphemers, united for the split release entitled "Hellstorm of Evil Vengeance." Exploring a style that few North American bands dared approach at that time, Black Witchery and Conqueror inherited their extremist tendencies from the likes of Blasphemy and Sarcofago, among others. Looking back, the release can now be regarded as something of a statement of intent in that it signified the establishment of a second wave of bestial black metal.

Although external circumstances would necessitate the termination of Conqueror’s mission immediately following the release of the split, J. Read continued treading the path of the Superion with Revenge, and R. Forster was initiated into the ranks of Blasphemy. Black Witchery also persisted through the years.

Since the split release in 2000, Black Witchery and Revenge have shared numerous stages all over the world and maintained a united front within the underground. Now they team up again for a new slip coming via Nuclear War Now! Productions.

The three tracks on this record from Black Witchery herald the arrival of new guitarist Alal'Xhaasztur (of Nyogthaeblisz, Hellvetron, and Nexul) alongside core members Vaz and Impurath. More...

Revenge Signs With Season Of Mist

Season of Mist is proud to announce the signing of Canadian black metal chaos extremists Revenge for the release of the band’s forthcoming fifth album, to be recorded in 2014. The label comments:

"During the group's 13 year history, Revenge has become one of the most prevalent bands in the Canadian black metal underground. Utilizing militant imagery, a strong ideology, and an extremely confrontational live show, the band has built a large die hard following worldwide amongst the fringe elements of the Black Metal, Death Metal, and Noise scenes.

"Revenge has been called 'incomprehensible non musical chaos' by some and 'total genius' by others. These polarizing views about Revenge have been a constant theme during most of the band’s existence and it doesn't look like things will change any time soon.

"The band refuses to betray their original intent and continues to maintain a lone wolf doctrine, existing strictly on their own terms as they have from day one. Revenge forges ahead with full force, looking down with disdain on all who question their approach of total hatred towards the swine known as mankind."

Not known for long winded statements, announcements, or explanations, Revenge main man J. Read's only comment when asked about the band’s new partnership with Season of Mist was, “The line has been drawn. Choose your side."

MDF 2013 Location Announced

With Sonar closing, the location of 2013's Maryland DeathFest XI was up in the air. The organizers have finally announced that the fest will be held in the same location as last year, and will be expanded. Maryland DeathFest XI will take place in Baltimore, Maryland on Memorial Day weekend, May 23-26, 2013. Tickets go on sale on October 15th at 12 pm (EST). You can read the entire update below:

We're a day early with this announcement, but we can finally let you know where MDF XI will be taking place.

In a nutshell, we will be returning to the property formerly known as Sonar, and will be at least doubling the amount of outside space that we've been used to utilizing. We realize that it's a bit of a mind fuck to wait around for a few months just to hear that the fest is returning to the same place, but truth be told, the other places we looked at were either not able to give us a definite answer anytime soon, and/or had too many inconveniences that we did not want to put the fans through. During the venue search, it was brought to our attention that the new owners of the property were willing to collaborate with us, so we decided to go through with returning to a familiar place that is close to the hotels and conveniences of downtown Baltimore.

The additional space outside will allow us to comfortably accommodate the crowd, and will allow more room for the MDF vendor village, food vendors/food trucks, places to sit, and other new additions like misting tents to escape the possibility of it being hotter than it should be that weekend. There will be two outside stages plus the stage inside. Due to the new configuration outside, the placement of the outside stages will likely be different.
As for the building itself, there are some renovations currently taking place, but the rooms will be used exactly how they have been in the past, and it will be air conditioned throughout.

We would also like to announce the addition of a second inside stage at Baltimore Soundstage, which is a 1/2 mile walk away from the former Sonar (at 124 Market Place), and will be used from Friday-Sunday. This will be a smaller show without a barricade that will feature mostly hardcore and punk bands, and it will be scheduled in a way that should not conflict with anything going on at the former Sonar compound. All of the bands for this stage will be included in next week's announcement on October 9th.

The latest list of bands playing at this time is as follows: More...
