Dream Theater Gives Lengthy Interview
John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater recently sat down with Music Radar and gave a long and in-depth interview in which they cover lots of topics, including the new album, Mike Portnoy's departure, Mike Mangini's arrival and a host of other things.
One of the most interesting bits, excerpted below, is when Petrucci and Rudess talk about how Portnoy asked to rejoin the band, and why Dream Theater turned down his request.
This is particularly interesting when read adjacent to Portnoy's comment's on the matter, and taken together seems to be a classic case of trying to win the breakup. You can read the entire interview with Petrucci and Rudess at MusicRadar.com.
Music Radar: Well, apparently, it wasn't. He went off with Avenged, but in December, when it became clear that he wasn't staying in that band, he came to you guys and asked if he could rejoin.
Rudess: "Yeah, that was a very challenging time. It was several months later, and what basically happened was… [pauses] You know, just to give you an idea of how deep this was to lose him, how difficult it was… after we got off the phone with him, when he told us what was going to happen, that he was leaving… I literally sat on the steps of my studio and cried. This is a guy who's a friend of mine, who we all love and admire. We didn't want to see it come crashing down. The whole thing brought me to tears. More...

"Over the next few days we hope that you will enjoy this very special documentary we've put together which literally invites everyone into the rehearsal room during the audition process and ultimately reveals who we chose as the new drummer in Dream Theater.

Dream Theater Posts Drummer Search Documentary
Dream Theater, which has still not announced a replacement for drummer Mike Portnoy, has issued the following announcement about posting a video clip online detailing the band's search fora replacement drummer:
"A little more than a month after original drummer Mike Portnoy's sudden departure from Dream Theater, the band held three days of auditions in New York City. Over an amazing and productive three-day period, the band played, jammed and spoke candidly with seven of the world's greatest drummers, learning about them musically, personally and professionally, and assessing the fit of each drummer's incredible chops with the band's trademark prog-rock sound.
"Dream Theater have been extremely sensitive to the fact that this is not only a monumental decision in their own lives, but also a critical moment in the lives of DT fans around the world. The departure of our lifelong bandmate and friend was an unexpected and truly heartbreaking blow. The fact that as a result of that event we'd be introduced to seven infinitely capable and uniquely talented drummers was heartening.
"Dream Theater would like to share with its fans some of the intense process, along with the musical joy, that went into choosing a new drummer. Who is the best fit behind the kit?
"Go to Dream Theater's Facebook page to sign up for the mailing list and to receive more details about an exclusive and intimate look at the auditions, and to find out exactly when and how the momentous announcement about the band's new lineup will be made. Also on Facebook, fans will be able to find out information about the band's upcoming 2011 World Tour."

"As for the new Dream Theater album, it is going incredibly well and I can't wait for everyone to hear it! We are in the tracking process and working hard as well as just having so much fun.
"I appreciate everyone's patience regarding the announcement (or lack thereof!) of Dream Theater's new drummer. I know it has been very frustrating to have to wait for the news. Believe me, we are bursting at the seams to tell everyone and rest assured that our decision will not disappoint on any level!
"As for info and details on the new album, anything such as the title, song names, running times, artwork, direction etc, will be posted on the official Dream Theater and Roadrunner sites once the album is complete and we begin to prepare for its release.
"Looks like the start of our next world tour is lining up nicely as well. It's always great to be over in Europe during the summer playing out doors and seeing all of our friends again.
"In the meantime, I'm just shedding, lifting and buried deep in the making of the new album. My beautiful Music Man's and Boogies are raging and there are many notes flying around the studio!
"I hope everyone is well. Thank you so much as always for being such amazingly supportive friends and fans!"

"By this outstanding [ambient] we continue to establish the festival as the "[Mecca] of Progressive Rock.' The hightlights of the past 3 years have been for sure the appearances of Fish, ASIA, Jethro Tull, Roger Hodgson, Steve Hackett, Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Marillion - to name a few.

James LaBrie Guests On New Eden's Curse Album
Multinational melodic metal band Eden's Curse will return with its third studio CD, "Trinity," on March 18th via AFM Records. A promotional video is currently in production as well.
Michael Eden states: "James recorded the 'Trinity' sessions at Iguana Studios in Ontario straight after he finished his solo release, 'Static Impulse', which was perfect timing as he headed off on tour with Iron Maiden immediately after. "
James LaBrie himself adds: "In 2010 I was fortunate to discover Eden's Curse. I absolutely love this band. Great players and people and they deserve nothing but huge success. They belong with the best of today's music. Trust me, you're going to love this from beginning to end."
Bass player and main songwriter Paul Logue explains: "James was highly professional, as you'd expect, extremely approachable and very enthusiastic about our music. We sealed the deal very quickly and we got him in top form as he was also in the middle of recording and we feel the end results are breathtaking."
Michael Eden further adds: "'Trinity' has been a long time in the making as we always strive to bring our current fan base and new fans our very best. I spoke with James LaBrie backstage on the Iron Maiden tour last summer and we had a great conversation. James has a way of making you see things in a different light than other people. It was an honor to have him along for the ride and we hope that it is not the last time we work together."
Eden then goes on to add, "We still have more cool surprises we will announce soon, this party is just getting started."
