Abysmal Dawn Checks In From The Studio

Los Angeles, CA’s Abysmal Dawn has recently begun recording the follow-up album to the band's Relapse debut "Programmed To Consume" at Trench Studios in Corona, CA with John Haddad. The album will be mixed by Erik Rutan at his Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, FL. A fall release date is expected.

Abysmal Dawn's Charles Elliot issued the following update: "We recently wrapped up recording drums at Trench Studios and the final product is incredible! I think we really got some amazing tones this time and Scott delivered an amazing over the top drum performance. Our music has definitely become more demanding technically and Scott really stepped things up in the drum department. We really wanted to get a natural drum sound so the guys in Reciprocal were kind enough to let us rent their top of the line Pearl kit from them. Thanks a lot guys!

"Right now I’m currently laying down all the rhythm guitar tracks with Mike Bear at Artisan Road Studios in Encino, CA. For those of you that are keeping track, Mike played bass on our first album 'From Ashes' and played a few shows locally with us in the early days. I’ve known Mike since our bands first played together with Death at the Whiskey in ’98 while I was still in high school. We became friends soon after and he even filled in on bass for my old band Inhuman Visions back then. Recording my guitar tracks with him has been a true pleasure and his attention to detail is impeccable. Mike Cosio also started tracking bass with him recently and his know-how of the instrument has really helped Mike’s performance shine. Can’t wait to send everything to Erik Rutan to put the finishing touches on things. This will be the tightest and best Abysmal Dawn record yet!”

Abysmal Dawn Enters The Studio

Los Angeles metal band ABYSMAL DAWN will begin recording the follow-up album to their Relapse debut, "Programmed To Consume," this May at Trench Studio in Corona, CA with John Haddad (PHOBIA, INTRONAUT, HIRAX). The album will be mixed by Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL, VITAL REMAINS, CANNIBAL CORPSE) at his Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, FL. A fall release date is expected.

ABYSMAL DAWN’s Charles Elliot commented on the upcoming album, “It's always great to work with John Haddad, whom we've worked with on our previous two releases. This time we thought we'd try something a little different though as far as the mix goes. After to speaking to Erik Rutan at great length we know he's the man for the job. He's a living legend and knows how real death metal should sound! Everyone in the band is really excited to be working with him and we know this is going to be our most crushing release yet. We've been hard at work demoing all the material before we enter the studio and things sound amazing already! This will be our catchiest yet most extreme and technical release to date." More...

"The Big Shiny Prison" Available As Free PDF

Ryan Bartek has made his new book "The Big Shiny Prison" available as a free PDF download. The book can be found at this location. "The Big Shiny Prison" is an expose on various forms of underground music ranging from extreme metal to punk to rock. Interviews are included in the book with bands such as Cephalic Carnage, Pig Destroyer, and Abysmal Dawn. Bartek issued the following statement about the book:

"My name is Ryan Bartek. For the past 3 years I’ve sacrificed everything for the successful completion of this project. I spent a year on the road, another year completing & shopping it, and another year of total rejection. It is only karmically fitting that both the demise of magazine & book publishing come in one fell swoop.

"I was never in it for the money, nor the aspect of celebrity. I have spent an upwards of $10,000 on it, which I remark only to underline my absolute sincerity. No one would deny its quality -- but the raw nature of the work, as well as its excessive length, made it impossible to pigeon hole or successfully shop. Nothing quite like it has ever surfaced, at least not in the format I’ve undertaken.

"After this seemingly endless struggle, I have decided to offer it to the public domain. While I retain the copyright/trademark, I both encourage and support file sharing. It is my only wish that this manuscript be circulated & appreciated. Perhaps when all is said and done, someone might offer a physical print run."

Abysmal Dawn Streaming New Demo Track

Los Angeles metallers Abysmal Dawn have posted a demo track of a new song they are working on via their MySpace page. The band is currently writing for the follow-up to their Relapse debut "Programmed To Consume" while searching for a new drummer.

Abysmal Dawn's vocalist/guitarist Charles Elliott commented on the decision to preview new material so early: “We're really excited about this new track along with the other material we've been working on. It doesn’t have any vocals or leads put to it yet though, just guitars with a drum machine for people to get the basic idea. We thought we’d give everyone a small taste of what’s to come and show people what we’re currently looking for in a drummer. Plenty of capable drummers have shown interest in auditioning but we’re looking for someone that can take us a step further and play these new songs. Until we find the right person we’ll keep writing the most brutal and misanthropic metal imaginable.”

It was the longest tour we ever had the pleasure of being a part of and we had a fucking blast! We played a lot of places that we’d either never had the pleasure of playing or hadn’t played since 2006, and we had a great time bringing the metal to you fuckers. Daath Announce Summer Touring Plans

The Atlanta based quintet DÅÅTH recently unleashed a straight shot of pure, unfiltered American metal upon the masses with their new full-length album, The Concealers, which is garnering numerous rave reviews (see below). The group just completed a very successful month-long North American trek alongside Dragonforce and continues their touring onslaught throughout the summer touring the U.S. with Goatwhore, Abigail Williams, SWWAATS and Abysmal Dawn. Be sure to visit the bands official Myspace Page to view their complete touring itinerary.

DÅÅTH shot a video for the scathing new track, “Day Of Endless Light,” with director Robin Fuller (Ghost of a Thousand, Shaped By Fate) last month and click on the link below to for a sneak peak into the madness that awaits.

Eyal Levi (guitars) further comments: “DÅÅTH is definitely back. We just wrapped up our North American tour with Dragonfoce and Cynic. Now that the dust has settled we have, with proof and via memories, come to the conclusion that this was our best tour ever. On all fronts: crowd reaction, merch sales and new friendships. And any memories we’re too blacked out to remember were caught on film anyways! We have tons of amazing footage from this tour that we’ll be sharing with you guys for a while. Both bands are incredibly easy to tour with because they are composed of such great individuals. Like Kevin Talley was perplexed about, ‘Man, there are no douchebags on this tour! Usually there’s at least one.’ I couldn’t ask for a better tour to come back on after our seemingly centuries long break.

“Coming up in the world of DÅÅTH are quite a few badass and exciting things. First we have a video we’re about to release for ‘Day Of Endless Light.’ I’ve said in the past that I didn’t want us to create just another metal video with five dudes jamming in an abandoned building or warehouse. We wanted a video that was more of a visual work that just carried a dark and slick vibe and could be considered an animated work of art. Well, so far I personally have only seen 10 seconds of it and holy shit! It is definitely on the way to achieving the goal. Director Robin Fuller and art director Jorden Haley are the kind of people I need to always be working with.

“Also, there are some exciting tours in the works. In June and July we’ll be doing the ‘Conquer and Curse’ tour which features our brothers from Goathwore. I can’t say enough how much I admire and love this band. Headlining will be Abigail Williams and the first two bands will be Abysmal Dawn and Success Will Write Apocalypse Across The Sky. This tour is going to be a 180 from the Dragonforce tour and I’m excited for the different experience. We also just confirmed that we’re touring Europe with Chimaira, Unearth, and Throwdown this fall! I don’t need to explain why this is such an amazing tour but let me tell you, we are fucking STOKED to be a part of it! This also will be our second time through Europe with Unearth and can’t wait to share the road with those model human beings.”

The Concealers was produced and mixed by Jason Suecof and Mark Lewis (Trivium, All That Remains, Devildriver) and features unparalleled musicianship along with the extraordinary vocals of Sean Z.
