A new interview with mainman Alex Krull, through the latest Napalm Records catalog, revealed some information on the next Atrocity album. The following is an excerpt on Krull's plans for an album trilogy entitled "Okkult":
Q: What does the future hold in store for ATROCITY?
Alex: It wouldn't be ATROCITY, if we hadn’t already composed new material (laughs). Seriously, we no longer have to prove ourselves anymore, but my own drive always brings with it new challenges. That’s the way we will go on.
Q: Are there any concrete plans? A new album perhaps?
Alex: We are working on a album trilogy entitled "Okkult". It will be very dark, epic, and furious. Not just the concept, the music will also be like that. Perhaps it may be best compared with our "Blut" or "Atlantis" albums. I don’t want to give away any more details now, except that we hope to release it in 2012. It will be the perfect soundtrack for the coming apocalypse (laughs).
The "Werk 80" releases were quite successful. Any room for a sequel?
Alex: At the moment there are no plans, but never say ever. Right now we are busy working on "Okkult" and promoting "Die Gottlosen Jahre" DVD. But you never know… One insane idea is all it will take to point Atrocity in a brand-new and exciting direction (laughs).More...

Not only is he a great guy; he also totally blew us away during his audition.
He is the perfect match for the new ATROCITY material!
Unfortunately, Roland Navratil had to leave for private reasons, we wish him all the best for the future!
Nijenhuis had the following comments:
I’m really excited to announce that I’m the new drummer for ATROCITY. After quiting DrDoom it wasn’t easy to find a new band, but then Jb told me that Atrocity was looking for a new drummer. So I recorded an audition video of "Reich of Phenomena" and was asked to come to the studio a few weeks later to meet everyone. I’m really looking forward to play on the upcoming album and play a lot of shows, see you on the road!More...

Austrian metal band Ecliptica has recently entered Wild One Music Studios and issued the following studio update:
"On Thursday 14th October, we have entered the Wild One Music Studios. Roland Navratil is already recording and oooooh Hell, it’s going to kick ass big time!"
"Roland Navratil (Atrocity, Leaves’ Eyes, Dignity) is recording the drums. We are very happy, because Roland has worked with us for months during all Preproductions and made all the magic happen on the drums. It was a really hard work, Roland was not in Vienna all the time and we had to communicate, program, discuss and coordinate a lot, but in the end it was worth every second. The Drum tracks sound killer and we are glad we could do everything with Roland. This guy is a machine in the studio!"
Roland Navratil comments, “I know Eclipticas music for quite a while now. And as they asked me earlier this year if I could help them out in the studio for their new CD I didn't hesitate. Due to other live and studio work it took some while to find the time to record the CD. But now there are only 3 songs left and they will be done tomorrow. All I can say is that it will be a great CD. I am looking forward to hear it. And you should stay tuned to check it out !!!” More...

Now time has finally come and we just can't wait to let our fans hear and enjoy the new songs. We are incredibly happy with the result. The songs contain great rhythms, the music is sounding very special and organic, moreover, the energetic vocals together with the mythological based lyrics convey a magic atmosphere. Well, once more it's time to take blinkers off! Just listen, and it will take you away!" More...

ATROCITY guitarist Thorsten Bauer comments on the recordings at Mastersound Studio of the new album featuring Yasmin, "Recording this album was an adventure and a lot of fun at the same time. To create a kind of "Ethno Metal" sound, I used some pretty exotic lute and sitar tunings on the accoustic guitar in combination with the wellknown heavy guitar power ATROCITY usually stands for. These two different streams of guitar styles and sounds melt together in a pretty exciting way on the new album. In addition to that, 12 string guitars and flamenco fingerpicked guitars give this new ATROCITY record a handmade, unique and unheard sound and thrilling atmosphere. I am very satisfied with the outcome of this album and I think it will be one of the most creative and colourful albums of our career so far."
Leaves' Eyes and Atrocity guitarist Mathias Röderer has left both bands for family reasons. Atrocity comments: "Matze has been a part of ATROCITY from the beginning and did music with the band for more than 20 years. Both bands wish him the best for his future!"
Sander van der Meer of Dutch death metal band Cypher will take up the place on second guitar for both Leaves' Eyes and Atrocity.

Leaves' Eyes will be embarking on the "Beauty and the Beast" tour in November alongside Atrocity, Elis, Stream of Passion, and Sirenia. Leaves' Eyes issued the following statement about the tour:
"The preparations for the Beauty and the Beast Tour are in full swing and we all are looking forward to finally start the tour. It will be very exciting for us to perform the vehemence and energy of the new songs from 'Njord' for the very first time. These songs are fun to play and demand full concentration and power from the whole band. Some songs are real beasts according to the title for this tour, haha. Of course there will be well known songs in the set list such as 'Farewell Proud Men' but we also want to focus on the 'Njord' songs. Our premiere for the new show will be in a few days, on the 31.11.2009 in Triora/Italy! ELIS are old friends of us and together with SIRENIA and STREAM OF PASSION, people can expect an opulent spectacle with this tour package. Let the games begin!"

We also gonna meet many friends on this very interesting, international Festival package! How often do you have the opportunity to watch LEAVES' EYES, ATROCITY, SIRENIA, ELIS and STREAM OF PASSION live on stage in one single night? So don't miss this BEAUTY & THE BEAST festival, see you on tour hopefully soon!"

Producer Mat Sinner checked in from the recording sessions of the highly anticipated album featuring vocalist Michael Kiske and American singer Amanda Somerville (Avantasia). "We finished the songwriting for 12 original new songs – no covers .... and a week ago, we’ve started the final recordings! Everything looks cool and the song material is amazing!"
Most of the songs are written by Mat Sinner together with Magnus Karlsson (co-producer & guitarist). More songwriting contributions come from former "After Forever" guitarist Sander Gommans, Amanda Somerville (Arise, A Thousand Suns, Set Afire) and two outstanding symphonic songs written by Mat Sinner with keyboard maestro Jimmy Kresic (End Of The Road, Devil In Her Heart). Some more song titles can be revealed for the moment: "Silence, Don't Walk Away," "Rain," "Nothing Left To Say," "If I Had A Wish," "One Night Burning" and "Second Chance."
"We’re recording in two studios at the moment" says Mat. "Magnus is recording guitars at his own Stuntguitar Studios in Sweden and I’m working at the Audiospezialist Studio in Germany with drummer Martin Schmidt (ex-Atrocity, RMC Band) and keyboarder Jimmy Kresic (Voodoo Circle). After the Primal Fear European Tour, we will start with the vocal and choir recordings and I’m really looking forward to be a part of this progress. This album is a big challenge and it sounds already like something really special for me, in a time when we face a so many releases every month. Sander Gommans will join the team and will add some lead guitars and we’re talking to two more prominent musicians for a guest appearance."
Achim Koehler (Primal Fear, Edguy) was chosen to mix and master the album at Indiscreet Studios for a spring release on Frontiers Records.

Former Opiate for the Masses, current Leaves' Eyes and Atrocity drummer Seven Antonopolous has checked in with the following recap of NAMM:
"Hello everyone! I wanted to drop a few lines about our NAMM adventures. As most of you are probably awere, The Namm Convention is the largest trade/expo show here in the United States. But, more than that it's a great excuse for muscians to hang out, drink excessive amounts of whisky and interact with fans! Thursday night we went to see Simon phillips at the Hyatt hotel. I ended up doing shots with a couple crazy Germans go figure: Chris Koch my European Sabian rep and Christoph Schneider/Rammstein. Needless to say, we had a blast while Johnny Tempesta/The Cult and Charlie Benante/Anthrax brought down the house. So,friday it was myself,Christoph/Rammstein and Shawn/Megadeth at Vic Firth. Many thanks to Marco (The master of the grappa) for having us! Christoph, Shawn and I are really good friends and it's always cool hanging out for 'official business'! That night was the Sabian event Jojo Mayer played, always a real treat to see him play. Really inspiring! That brings us to saturday, and a pretty good size hangover! I was at the Sabian booth with a gang of shredders as well as good friends. Myself, Ray/Korn, Xavier/BuckCherry, Shawn/Megadeth. Ray and I did a drum clinic tour together for Sabian last November. He's one of my favorite players.
As always a Huge thank you to Chris Stankee and everyone at Sabian For a kiler time! I'd Also like to thank Vega, Garrison, Donell and all at D W drums! (special thanks, Vega getting me to my room thursday night!) In addition, Chris Brady and all at Aquarian drumheads! This was an Awesome NAMM and again thanks to all my endorsers for taking care of me all year long! Nothin' but the best!"
The new member of LEAVES' EYES and ATROCITY is Los Angeles based drummer Seven Antonopolous (ex-Opiate For The Masses).
Seven: "I've been a big fan of the bands for a long time. I can't tell you how excited I am to play with such amazing people! I'm currently at Mastersound Studio in Germany tracking the drums for the new LEAVES' EYES record! These songs have a great epic vibe. I feel like I'm really expending as a musician!"
Seven will take part of the 2008 SABIAN "Show No Mercy" tour featuring also Ray Luzier (Korn), Chris Pennie (Coheed & Cambria). The dates are as follows:

Jeff Wagner, author of the upcoming definitive book on progressive metal (scheduled for release in Autumn 2009), former Metal Maniacs editor and current The End Records staffer, has been interviewed by the Noise Pollution blog of James Mayse.
THE END RECORDS staff member Jeff Wagner. Scheduled for release in Autumn 2009, the book will detail the common movements of pioneers like OPETH, WATCHTOWER, VOIVOD, ATHEIST, DREAM THEATER, PSYCHOTIC WALTZ, CELTIC FROST, SIGH, and FATES WARNING — metal bands who have gone against the tide of tradition and conservatism. Linked by a desire to push heavy metal forward, these varied bands with a couple hundred other black sheep form the hard-to-pin-down category of "progressive metal."
Here's an excerpt:
We haven’t talked at all about death metal. I find much early death metal rather one-note (or one-grunt), but the genre is showing almost as much variation now as is black metal. What was the first band to take death metal’s “traditional” sound and expand it?
Wagner: That’s the chapter I’m elbow-deep in writing right now. It’s a tough call. Celtic Frost were considered a death metal band as much as a thrash or black metal band back in the day, and when they released ‘Into the Pandemonium’ in 1987, it was a total radicalization of all that. But I think what you’re talking about is the purer late ‘80s/early ‘90s death metal sound. Around 1990/1991, several bands began expanding the sound and taking it into a more experimental and/or technical area. I think of Disharmonic Orchestra (‘Not To Be Undimensional Conscious’) and Atrocity (‘Hallucinations’ and ‘Todessehnsucht’) in Europe, and here in the states the first that come to mind are Death’s ‘Human’ album and Atheist’s ‘Unquestionable Presence.’
