Abnormal Thought Patterns Streaming Debut EP

Abnormal Thought Patterns has released its debut self-titled EP today, November 29th, via the band's own, newly-formed CynNormal Lab Recordings. You can find some options to order it physically and digitally on the band's Facebook page. Now, Metalunderground.com brings you the full-album stream as well. You can hear the entire album in the player below.

Abnormal Thought Patterns is comprised of the core and founding members of heralded technical act Zero Hour, the band was formed by Northern California-based brothers Jasun and Troy Tipton (both also of Cynthesis) and Mike Guy. In order to complete the live sound, the trio recruited longtime friend and talented guitarist Richard Sharman, a student of Jasun's for many years.

The four-part epic "Velocity and Acceleration" and bass-only track "Ulnar Nerve Damage" were mixed by talented producer/engineer Dino Alden (Marty Friedman, Zero Hour), but due to Dino's carpal surgeries the band reached out to Matt LaPlant (Sikth, Nonpoint) to mix the tracks "The Machine Within" and "Electric Sun." The EP was mastered by Alan Douches (Between The Buried and Me, The Dillinger Escape Plan) and the cover artwork commissioned to Erick "Wurm" Pollard.

Here is the track listing for Abnormal Thought Patterns' self-titled debut:

1. The Machine Within
2. Velocity and Acceleration Movement 1
3. Velocity and Acceleration Movement 2
4. Velocity and Acceleration Movement 3
5. Velocity and Acceleration Movement 4

Cynthesis Signs To Sensory Records

Sensory Records has issued the following announcement about signing a deal with Cynthesis:

"Sensory Records is ecstatic to announce the signing of Cynthesis, and the release of their upcoming debut album DeEvolution. Cynthesis is an entirely new band of its own, which also reunites three of the original members of progressive metal purveyors Zero Hour -- founding twin brothers Jasun and Troy Tipton and original vocalist Erik Rosvold -- for the first time on a recording since the band's heralded 2001 album The Towers of Avarice and 2003's Metamorphosis, both still considered landmark releases in the progressive metal community. After reaping massive critical acclaim from major international metal media, Zero Hour successfully toured Europe and performed at two different ProgPower USA Festivals, the band parted ways with Erik Rosvold, disappointing diehard fans of the band across the globe.

"In late 2007, Jasun began writing material for Cynthesis. As the music developed he could only imagine one vocalist to really connect to the material. 'I've always been a fan of Erik's vocals and I knew his lyric-writing would be a perfect match for the material' explains Jasun. After one phone call Erik was brought into the fold. Rounding out the lineup on drums is longtime friend Sean Flanegan, who not only played on Jasun's 2000 instrumental release, Night's Pulse, but is best known for his amazing work with prog rock heroes, Enchant. Too Much Is Never Enough: Technical Metal in 2009

Earlier in the year Metal Underground presented its annual “Best Of” awards and with his finger always on the pulse, deathbringer mentioned a new dominance in metal leading us into 2009. Maybe you’ve noticed the extra acoustic interludes, the blazing shred solos, the disjointed poly-rhythms or maybe you haven’t - but either way a cloud of progressive influence has undoubtedly emerged over the metal scene. Not just in our minds here at MU, but in the minds of fans Opeth, Cynic, Meshuggah, Nachtmystium and Ihsahn stood out with impressive 2008 releases. Even more excitement and interest has been generated by collaborations between Ihsahn and Opeth, and 2009 hasn’t let up with Mastodon’s progressive opus “Crack The Skye” and Obscura’s “Cosmogenesis” leading the charge.

So what magic is at work here aside from great prog-metal releases? Larger bands such as the explosive power metal act DragonForce and progressive groovers Mastodon have played a large part in the uprising of the pursuit of extreme talent for more mainstream metal fans - opening legions of otherwise clueless greenhorns to the bar of instrumental ability. Old hands such as Deicide, Cannibal Corpse and numerous thrash acts have also not been untouched by the progressive aura and have regained the thirst for pushing technical boundaries - a truly founding ideal of metal if ever there was one. Another force at play here is the power the internet has had in exposing technical freak shows like Necrophagist as well as many young tech-metal heads being introduced to metal and fostered through 90s progressive acts such as Tool or Dream Theater. Not enough for you? Let’s take a little trip back in time then. More...

Zero Hour Announces New Lead Singer

California metalers Zero Hour have announced a new lead singer:

"Jasun, Troy & Mike are very pleased to announce that Chris Salinas (formerly of Power of Omens) is the new vocalist for Zero Hour. The guys couldn't ask for a better person and vocalist for the band. This will be the lineup for many CDs and live appearances."

"Zero Hour recorded a track to see how the four members would work together in the studio (Finding out from our past that this is a very, very important issue with band) and that everyone was willing to put in the maximum effort possible. The results are simply the best Zero Hour has ever had and we are excited to share a 2 minute clip of the song "Evidence of the Unseen". Zero Hour has written all the material for "Specs of Pictures Burnt Beyond" and looks to track all the material once Zero Hour has finished negotiations for the new disc."

"Thank you all for your continued support and this Zero Hour CD WILL push the limits to this date for Zero Hour fans."
