Ex-Stratovarius main man, Timo Tolkki's new band Revolution Renaissance is still seeking a bassist. Here is the update from the man himself:
"Having almost completed the line up for REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE, we are still looking for bass players. You have to be quick, recordings and tours are awaiting. So please send 2 recently taken photos (one headshot and one fullbody shot) and 3 MP3's of your playing with a short desrciption about yourself. Don't send links, send the material exactly as requested. You can be from anywhere, but Scandinavians have the priority. Good luck! Send the stuff to: email@example.com"
As previously reported, Tolkii recenlty revealed the band's vocalist as Gus Monsanto, a 33-year old metal singer from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. More...
This year's ProgPower UK, which was scheduled for March 28-29 in Bristol, England, has been cancelled. The following message has been posted on wwwww.progpoweruk.com:
"This is the hardest decision we have ever had to make, but it is with great regret that we have had to cancel ProgPower UK III.
"We have made no secret of the financial difficulties that have dogged our first two years, which is why we made a significant number of changes for year three. However, ticket sales have been extremely poor and, as a result, there is no way we can stage the festival without losing a substantial amount of money – again.
"This decision has not been taken lightly and we are fully aware of both the disappointment and inconvenience it will cause. However, we simply cannot afford to keep pumping money into ProgPower UK and we can assure you that we are as disappointed about this as you no doubt are.
"As a result of this, ProgPower UK LLP will cease trading with immediate effect.
"Ticket holders who purchased tickets via cheque or Paypal through the ProgPowerUK website will be refunded by the method through which the tickets were purchased. This will be done within twenty-eight days.
"If you purchased tickets at Bristol Ticket Shop, please contact them directly for a refund.
"Please direct any enquiries to firstname.lastname@example.org All enquiries will be dealt with, but please be patient.
"We would like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported us over the past three years, and also thank Rene Janssen and his team giving us the opportunity to make ProgPower UK a reality.

Finland's THUNDERSTONE have issued the following press release:
Last August saw Thunderstone part ways with vocalist Pasi Rantanen and keyboard player Kari Tornack, leaving fans wondering about the future of the band. The band, however, did not rest on its heels and did a full European tour in October-December, recruiting vocalist Tommi "Tuple" Salmela from TAROT and keyboardist Jukka Karinen. The temporary line-up created a flood of speculation, which will come to an end with the announcement of the new line-up.
The new vocalist of Thunderstone is Rick Altzi from Sweden. Rick has contributed his wonderful voice to many metal albums, most recently with Swedish AT VANCE. More...
Finnish metallers THUNDERSTONE have issued the following update:
"Hello all! We just wanted to remind you about our upcoming post-Christmas tour with SONATA ARCTICA. It will be an interesting four gigs, since two of the gigs will be done with Pasi and Kari and two with Tuple and Jukka. These are the ‘farewell’ gigs for the old line-up, so get your tickets now!
2008 will be full of new and exciting things for Thunderstone. In the beginning of the year will plan ahead for the next album, shows, and most importantly, the final lineup of the band. We will keep you posted as soon as we have any news. Meanwhile--especially if you missed us on tour--keep harassing your local promoters to get us to play in your town. We are looking forward to perhaps the most exciting year in our career, so stay tuned and have a nice holiday and a great New Year! More...
Finnish melodic power metallers THUNDERSTONE have updated their "tour diary" with another entry from their current European trek with NOCTURNAL RITES. Bassist Titus Hjelm's latest posting reads as follows:
"Another ’reunion' waited for us in Vienna. It was the first time there for us in four years. The venue was tiny compared to the previous ones, but the great crowd made us forget it right away.
Last night's bus party and the taste of Czech beer was still in our mouths, but even a hangover couldn't stop the party on stage. From Vienna we headed towards Nurnberg and Hirsch which is a familiar venue for us from the AXEL RUDI PELL tour in 2004. The Monday crowd was a bit sleepy but we still had a very good time, doing some 'ripaska' on stage and telling the usual quality THUNDERSTONE jokes.
"Next day was very strange since the town of the show was changed at the last minute. Instead of Losheim we were playing in Merzig. On top of that the venue was changed last minute too. However, despite the shortcomings, quite a nice crowd showed up. Our friends Alex and Vivian made sure that we were stocked with (terrible-tasting, might I add...) booze, and another party was on its way..."

THUNDERSTONE guitarist Nino Laurenne issued the following European tour update on October 28th:
"We’re sitting in the backstage of Paris’ La Boule Noire writing this, and - you guessed it - feeling hung over as hell. Well, to be honest, yesterdy was even worse because we flew to Hamburg a day early and that was of course spent in the usual Finnish Mayhem Way. The good part was that we’re sharing the bus with Swedes NOCTURNAL RITES who also know how to have a good time! We haven’t yet got to the playing sauna in the bus with them, but it will come..."
"The show in Lenzburg Metal Inferno IV was excellent! We had a great time there two years ago and relived the whole thing full force. The biggest difference was of course the fact that we had two new guys in the band, who proved to be perfect. We had new energy on stage and the audience loved every moment of it. Thanks again for that! It was also great to see many old friends at the signing session." More...
Despite a previous announcement to the contrary, STRATOVARIUS keyboardist Jens Johansson will be unable to join Finnish melodic power metallers THUNDERSTONE on their European tour as a replacement for the recently departed Kari Tornack. According to the band, Johansson has been forced to bow out of the tour "for personal reasons." Keyboard duties on the trek will now be handled by Jukka Karinen from the Finnish prog-metal outfit STATUS MINOR.
THUNDERSTONE's video for the song "Face in the Mirror" can be viewed here. The track comes off the group's fourth studio album, "Evolution 4.0", which was released this past March. According to the band, the CD is "a milestone, bringing in more of the heavier stuff that 'Tools of Destruction' already hinted at, but still retaining the landmark melodies of THUNDERSTONE. That's why we thought the title 'Evolution 4.0' best represents where we now stand." More...

Tuska Open Air Metal Festival has added more international and Finnish acts to the 2005 roster. The line-up is almost complete with only 1 more artist to be added for Saturday afternoon as well as the winner from the band contest at Rotonde-Festival, France, which is to be held later this spring. This year's Tuska-Festival is more international than ever, with nearly half of the artists coming from abroad. The evening clubs will most likely see some international action as well.
New additions in Finnish professionalism will be represented by Apocalyptica, whose cello metal is witnessed way too rarely on their native soil. Apocalytica just recently supported Rammstein on their European tour and appeared stateside on a few selected dates.
German precision and universal greatness is brought to you by the mighty Gamma Ray. The band last appeared on the bill at Tuska 2000 and have since built their fanbase by selling out club shows on a regular basis.
Other additions include up-and-coming death metallers Amoral, Finnish-singing Stam1na and Viikate, as well as Callisto who are about to embark on a European tour in a few weeks.
The search continues for one more, either domestic or foreign artist.
Ticket sales for Tuska 2005 start on Friday April 1st. Three-day ticketcosts 67 euro, one-day ticket 32 euro. Go to www.lippupalvelu.fi to purchase tickets.
