Icarus Witch Parts Ways With Guitarist And Drummer

Pittsburgh power metal band Icarus Witch recently parted ways with drummer Steve Johnson and guitarist Ed Skero. They will be replaced by guitarist Dave Watson, formerly of Mantic Ritual and drummer Tom Wierzbicky, formerly of Thunderfist.

The band's announcement reads as follows:

"After three North American tours in one year, Cleopatra Records recording artist Icarus Witch have amicably parted ways with guitarist Ed Skero and drummer Steve Johnson. The band is extremely excited to announce their replacements, Dave Watson and Tom Wierzbicky respectively.

"Those in the metal community will know Dave as the vocalist and guitarist for Nuclear Blast thrashers, Mantic Ritual. Watson is also highly regarded as one of the top producers in the Pittsburgh region and was the man behind the mixing board (and on keyboards) for the latest Icarus Witch single, “Tragedy.” He has been friends with the band for years and is a natural fit to compliment guitarist Quinn Lukas’ melodic metal playing style.

"Twenty-two year old Brooklyn, New York native Tom Wierzbicky has been playing drums non-stop for 8 years and impressed the band at his audition bringing a creative energy, attack and unique precision well beyond his years. Tom has recently drummed for Chicago modern rockers, Hessler and lead his own traditional metal crew, ThunderFist in Lancaster, PA. He is the perfect fit for the energetic new direction the songs have been taking as the Witch puts finishing touches on pre-production for their 5th album to be tracked this fall."

Just For Fun

Iron Maiden Wearing Icarus Witch T-Shirts

Jason Myers, bassist and keyboardist for Pittsburgh-based trad-metal outfit Icarus Witch, recently posted a fun story about how Nicko McBrain had been spotted wearing Icarus Witch shirts in Iron Maiden photos. The first bits of the post are blockquoted here - for the full story, pictures of Iron Maiden in Icarus Witch T-Shirts and all things Icarus Witch, head on over to Icarus Witch's Facebook page.

In 2008, a friend of mine emailed me and said "Dude, how'd you get Nicko McBrain to where an Icarus Witch shirt?" I laughed. Honestly, have no idea how he got his shirt. But it appeared first in a spread in Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles magazine.

Shortly after, I was browsing the magazine section and noticed the June 2008 issue of Metal Edge magazine had Maiden on the cover. Nicko, once again sporting his Witch "True Pittsburgh Metal" T.

Unfortunately, he has his arms crossed in both pics, leading me to assume that either: A) Maiden also has a "No other band T-Shirts in our promo photos" rule and Steve reamed him out. or B) It was really cold in the photo studio that day. Haha. Either way, I've since noticed lots of photos of Nicko and this is a common pose for him in pix, so I'll assume the best.

Icarus Witch Recording New Single

Icarus Witch has begun pre-production on the new single "Tragedy" with producer Dave Watson (Mantic Ritual, Hero Destroyed, Crown The Lost, DC Cooper). The band will be tracking at Soundscape Studios in Pittsburgh, PA this week and looks to release the song and video prior to the upcoming tour with Paul DiAnno. This marks the first time Icarus Witch will record with an engineer other than long time producer Eric Klinger (Pro-Pain, Built Upon Frustration) who recently relocated to Belgium. The band commented on the single:

"The energy level is high for this new chapter in the band's career--fitting in that it will also mark the Icarus Witch recording debut of vocalist, Christopher Shaner (ex-Dirty Looks). The plan is to return to the studio after the U.S. tour and record a new full-length album for a 2011 release."

Icarus Witch Welcomes New Vocalist

Pittsburgh melodic metal band ICARUS WITCH has announced a change in their lead vocalist. In a statement from the band's official site they explained the situation:

"We are excited to announce yet another massive shift in our ranks as we welcome new vocalist Christopher Shaner to the ICARUS WITCH circle and part ways amicably with original vocalist, Matthew Bizilia. Matthew's contributions to the band have been immeasurable over the past six years. While this was a serious decision for both parties, professional differences of opinion led to the change. Bizilia is a phenomenal talent who will always be a part of the Witch family as we wish him much success on his future ventures."

Incoming vocalist and Erie, Pennsylvania native Shaner is a long time friend and collaborator of guitarist Quinn Lukas. Before Quinn moved to Pittsburgh to join ICARUS WITCH in 2006, he had worked on various musical projects with the singer. Much like the recent acquisition of second guitarist Ed Skero, the choice to add Christopher to the band was based on a combination of what he brings to the lineup personally, musically and professionally. His powerful vocal range, sense of harmony and intense work ethic are a perfect fit for the next phase of this band. Writing for the follow-up to Draw Down The Moon has already commenced with the new recruits and it promises to be the band's most diverse, melodic and epic release ever. More...

Icarus Witch Reveals New Second Guitarist

American heavy metal band Icarus Witch has announced that have found a new second guitarist. A message from the band reads as follows:

"Many people have mentioned over the last few years that they miss hearing Icarus Witch as a two guitar line-up with the harmonies, rhythms and dual leads intact. Our position was that we also enjoy hearing those elements but did not want to inject a new, unknown member into an equation that was already running so smoothly on stage. While on the Paul DiAnno tour we were fortunate enough to have that secnd guitar slot for Paul's set filled by a phenomenal talent in Pittsburgh area guitarist, Ed Skero (aka Full Metal Duffy).

"Performing that challenging set every night with Ed on stage proved a couple of things: More...

Icarus Witch Announces New Drummer

Pittsburgh metallers Icarus Witch have issued the following announcement about recruiting a new drummer:

"After what seems like an eternity, the drummer search has thankfully ended. Icarus Witch are proud to announce Steve Johnson as our newest addition to the inner circle, or as he so eloquently puts it himself, the 'next and last drummer for the Witch.' We came into contact with Steve after he saw our performance opening for Heaven & Hell and Coheed & Cambria in Cleveland on August 22. Thanks to the wonders of myspace, we soon became friends with the Ohio native and when he found out we had a position open for full-time drummer, he came down to Pittsburgh and nailed his audition.

"We would like to thank everyone who tried out for the spot and came from as far away as Florida to give it a shot. Also, many thanks go out to Tristan Triggs and Keith Hurka for filling in on the throne until we were able to secure our full-time, time keeper.

"A veteran of the Cleveland metal underground, Steve comes from a traditional heavy metal / hard rock drumming background, something that we felt was essential for a long term fit. Also, he is a heavy hitter, a showman, owns couple cargo trailers, and he brings Yuengling to the sessions. What more can you ask for?"

Icarus Witch Begins Pre-Production for New Album

Pittsburgh metallers, Icarus Witch, have issued the following update:

"Icarus Witch is back in the studio for pre-production on our 4th CD. Writing and demoing new music for the follow up to 2007's 'Songs For The Lost' is not a simple task, as we always strive to better ourselves and grow as songwriters while still staying true to our initial vision. No song or album titles just yet, but the music is finally sounding the way we've always wanted it to."

Forbidden and Sebastian Bach Drop off TMT Festival

Upstate New York's TMT festival has been temporarily postponed. The organizors have issued the following update:

"Due to an unagreeable situation that has arisen with the venue, we are forced to postpone - TEMPORARILY this event. We are currently spending every waking moment searching for a replacement venue that will satisfy both our needs and please all of the bands and fans. The lack of basic cooperation on the part of the venue is what has prompted this decision. We tried in vain to make every effort necessary, but in the end - they failed us."

"There will be two lineup changes - Forbidden had a problem between management and booking, they decided to play another gig that weekend. Metal Mike contacted us when Sebastian Bach decided to go on tour, this tour conflicted with the concert date. We wish both bands good luck in their endeavors."

Crown the Lost Announces New Bassist

Crown the Lost has announced their new bassist, Shaun Gunter, who replaces recently departed Ryan Eicheldinger. Here what the band had to say about Gunter's addition to the band:

"It is with great pleasure that we announce the addition of bassist Shaun Gunter to the CTL fold. Commonly referred to as "Shaun Von Grimm," "Von Grimes," "Grimes" or "Grimey," Shaun blew us away with his finger-styled, fretboard mastery, nailing his three tryout songs: "Swear to the Peerless," "No Reprieve" and "Bound to Wrath" with a sense of precision not yet heard in our Jager-adorned practice room. While other bass players were considered, Shaun was the hands-down choice to fill the vacant slot and we are more than thankful he accepted without hesitation.

"Mr. Gunter has relocated from Dayton, Ohio (no, he's not a Browns fan…) and was brought to our attention by Jason Myers of the mighty Icarus Witch. A player in the vein of Alex Webster and Robert Trujillo, Shaun has been playing bass for roughly four years and has recently cut his teeth in Reaper, an old-school thrash band out of Dayton. Shaun's low-end tools of the trade and easy-going personality has galvanized the band and adds a new dimension to our songs, both new and old that we're eager to exploit in the live arena."

Crown The Lost is currently recording their sophomore record, "Blind Faith Loyalty."
