Fun Fun Fun Fest 2012 Day Two
Red Fang drew my attention first during day two. Contrary to their name, Red Fang’s bite energized rather than paralyzed the crowd. Although they came from the land of fog and towering trees of Oregon, their riffs were the size of Texas and filled with a gritty quality not unlike the festival’s dusty, trodden paths. Their catchy rhythms, guitar solos and drum fills grabbed the modestly sized audience and injected groove into their stoned bones. With prior SXSW appearances, Red Fang has become a well-recognized force in Austin’s festival circuit. Make sure to check these guys out on their touring supporting the “Murder the Mountains” album.

Metallica To Host Its Own Festival In June
Following several cryptic announcements on its Facebook page, Metallica went on live stream today to say that the band will be hosting its very own music fest this year in New Jersey. "Orion Fest," the name of the new music festival, will be hosted in Atlantic City on June 23rd and 24th.
The event will feature 22 artists, comedy and lifestyle elements. More than just music, the festival will also showcase the band's individual interests - and allow fans to interact directly with each of the band members. Orion Fest will be held at the decomissioned airstrip Bader Field and was chosen because of the equidistant nature of it from L.A. and Europe, and the proximity to Atlantic City lodging. Metallica plans to headline both nights, confirming the following acts for the festival already:
Arctic Monkeys
Avenged Sevenfold
Modest Mouse
The Gaslight Anthem
Cage the Elephant
Fucked Up
Best Coast
Hot Snakes
Titus Andronicus
Gary Clark Jr.
Lucero
Roky Erickson
The Black Angels
The Sword
A Place to Bury Strangers
Liturgy
Metallica will be playing the "Black" album in full one night and "Ride The Lightning" in full the next night. Visit the Orion Music site for more information.
