Light This City Debut New Track “Terminal Bloom”

Light This City debut the title track to their new effort “Terminal Bloom“. That album is the outfit's first full-length release in roughly a decade and willbe out in stores on May 25th via Creator-Destructor Records. Comments drummer Ben Murray:

“We’re super excited to share the title track from the upcoming record with you all! ‘Terminal Bloom‘ is one of the heavier songs on the album, with basically zero melody — just pure thrash! We wanted to release a total banger for the second single to show our fans the diversity of heaviness within the record, and I think this one represents the influences we drive from classic Bay Area thrash and death metal. The song is definitely a ripper, and an unrelenting example of the pace of the album. We hope you enjoy it! Turn it up loud.”

Light This City release "A Grotesque Reflection"

It's been ten years since "Stormchaser", but Bay Area melodic death metal outfit Light This City are back, releasing the first single from their fifth studio album "Terminal Bloom".

The new track is titled "A Grotesque Reflection" and can be viewed below.

Vocalist Laura Nichol had the following to say about the track:

"I've always had a fascination with Greek mythology, which a lot of my early Light This City lyrics referenced, and I found myself revisiting similar themes while writing lyrics for 'A Grotesque Reflection.' Obviously, one of the big questions that myths (and religion) try to answer is: What happens when we die? Kharon is the name of the ferryman who carries you into the underworld after your death. The line 'we have always been his passengers' alludes to feeling like normal life and the 'life' of death in the underworld are actually the same thing. So, when I die, and I'm about to approach this hellish place after my death--well, what makes that so different from the life I just came from? Your reflection in the waters of the underworld is really just a distorted visage of the same reflection you looked at every day in your normal life."

"Terminal Bloom" is out May 25th through drummer Ben Murray's Creator-Destructor Records. A tour will reportedly be announced soon.

Light This City Reunites

San Francisco-based Light This City has just announced the band's recent reactivation, as the outfit reunites to record the first new LP in a decade.

The band will enter Castle Ultimate Studios with Zack Ohren to record the fifth full-length LP in December.

Vocalist Laura Nichol states, "Performing and writing with Light This City has never stopped being fun. Now that I have the perspective from a guitarist/vocalist standpoint, I love to be able to switch it up and engage an audience with the freedom of only my voice, words, and a microphone in my hand. The personality that Light This City's music and influences draw out of me is something that I really enjoy exploring and embodying. While Heartsounds feels like an exhilarating challenge every time I step onstage, when I'm in front of an audience with Light This City, I always feel at home. I don't know if I could have both of those feelings with one band, but luckily, I have two to round it out!"

Drummer Ben Murray explains, "I think I can speak for all five of us when I say that we couldn't me more excited to resurrect Light This City, finish this upcoming fifth album of ours, and get back out there to shred some new and old songs for all ya' headbangers out there! We are eight tracks into this record and it tops anything we've ever released, by far. Thank you for waiting ten years; we'll see you all soon!" More...

The farewell concert dates are as follows:

Drummer Ben Murray commented; "It has been just about two years since Light This City came home from the Death Angel tour and decided to call it quits. Needless to say, it has been an exciting and interesting two years since we put a stop to the band, and since June of 2008 everyone in Light This City has started brand new awesome musical endeavors. That being said, we always knew we would get together one last time to thrash with all our amazing fans up and down California. That time has come, and we are extremely excited to announce four 'Final' Light This City shows. These should all be absolutely killer, and we expect all our west coast fans to be there! We will play a good amount of 'Stormchaser' songs as well as all the bangers from 'Facing the Thousand' and 'Remains of the Gods.' Since we didn't play any shows in support of 'Stormchaser,' this will be the best chance for all of you metalheads in California to come rage with us while we bust out these songs! Hope to see you all there!!"

PROSTHETIC RECORDS recently reissued the band's first record, 2004's self released, "The Hero Cycle." You can order it, as well as the rest of the band's catalog and other merch, here at the PROSTHETIC webshop.

Light This City Confirms Break-Up

After canceling their scheduled tours last week, Light This City has officially called it quits. Drummer Ben Murray has issued the following statement:

"I know this is extremely unexpected and disappointing to a lot you out there, but Laura [Nichol] and I have decided to end the band recently because of personal and practical reasons. While this may come as a shock to many, I hope I can shed some light on the reasons behind the decision.

"First and foremost, the touring lifestyle and playing on stage every night, as well as making this band our entire lives and our profession had over time become stale and anxiety-ridden for both of us, and in the end, not enjoyable anymore. We started this band because we loved playing this kind of music and loved the release that we got out of it, and the satisfaction we got from jamming with our friends, and taking it across the country. The fact that it had not been that way for a while was enough reason for us to hang it up and leave the band as 6 years of amazing memories and amazing accomplishments. There are other life goals that both her and I have that we felt would not be reached had we taken the band further, say for another 5 to 10 years, and we didn't want to string our other band members along in something that our hearts weren't in 100%. That's just not who we are, and not how we ever wanted this band to be. Both Laura and I want to get back to the root of why we love playing and writing music, whether it be professionally or not, and not have this burden of feeling alienated from our friends and scene because of what the touring lifestyle does to bands. It is a feeling that we just couldn't handle anymore, and didn't want to deal with on any level, because at the end of the day, music IS our entire lives and we want to keep it that way. We wanted to keep it enjoyable as an amazing catharsis, which it was quickly becoming the opposite. With all of this, on top of the financial and logistical burdens we have come across in touring fulltime, we felt it was the right time to make this announcement. As disappointed as our friends and fans may feel, we hope you understand and respect the reasoning behind this decision, and can understand why we'd make it. More...

Doc Coyle issues the following comments regarding the DVD, "Hey, it's Doc checking in from the 4th day of the 'In Thrash We Trust' tour with Death Angel, Soilent Green and Light This City. So far it's been a blast. The first two shows were with Testament, and they were excellent. We are sharing a bus with Death Angel and they are really some of the nicest guys I have ever met. There is a lot of positive energy and enthusiasm that they carry with them. Man, do they destroy live! I wasn't too familiar with them before the tour, but I can see why they are considered legends. Soilent Green and Light This City are kicking ass too. Great people and awesome bands." More...
