Light This City Vocalist Checks In
Bay Area thrashers LIGHT THIS CITY are currently out on the road alongside German power metallers EDGUY, Canada's INTO ETERNITY and fellow Californians ECHOES OF ETERNITY. LIGHT THIS CITY vocalist Laura Nichol has posted the first in a series of tour journals in conjunction with the webzine Papertiger. A few excerpts from the journal include:
On touring alongside EDGUY:
Nichols: "As we pulled up alongside the headlining band's tour bus, our van still reeking of Hollywood's [aka guitarist Ryan Hansen] puke from Tuesday's drunken catastrophe (gotta love rookie guitarists...), we were greeted by some of the "Edguys", as we call them. I don't know what I expected from that band, but somehow I figured the dudes in a German IRON MAIDEN worship band with a song entitled 'Lavatory Love Machine' couldn't be all bad. I mean, sure, they're older, slightly balding longhairs who tend to substitute ridiculous gestures and sounds for many actual English words. And sure, they give out aftershow booty passes to girls in the front row whose boyfriends are holding them on their shoulders... but EDGUY are silly and fun-loving, with a set full of catchy melodies and high-kicks performed by their five-foot-seven singer, 'Hellfire Tobi'. I already know the words to almost every song in their hour-and-a-half long set!"
On touring throughout Canada:
Nichols: "Ok, I'm sorry I have to say this, but Canada is better than the United States. I'm sure every 'South Park'-loving American is going to hate me for it, but that's just because they haven't been in a touring band. Don't get me wrong; I will always appreciate having somewhere to play where anyone can come and watch our show, but in American venues, a smaller band like us is lucky to get a working bathroom and a free pizza for dinner. Canada is the land of milk and fucking honey for the touring-challenged. Clean showers, washing machines, and dryers line the huge, brightly-lit backstage, which is stocked with fresh fruits and veggies, deli-meats, soda, beer, and menus to order a variety of dinners from. French-Canadian crowds might not understand what the hell you're yelling at them, but they'll cheer as loud as they fucking can when you're done with your between-song-gibberish."
On touring city-by-city:
"So far, we have traveled through some of my most hated and most beloved cities. While there aren't many areas I dislike, and while I'll try to find the charm in any town, certain places feel like they are infected with shitty memories and people you'd like to forget, and the next day's change of atmosphere comes not a moment too soon. For once, it was actually easier for me to breathe in New York City. I know it sounds cheesy, but there is something freeing in the anonymity of places like that, especially when contrasted with the feeling of being afraid that you'll run into someone you know at any second in a small town."

Into Eternity Kicks Off Edguy Tour
After spending the summer months touring arenas alongside Dream Theater, the Canadian quintet Into Eternity heads back to the clubs tonight for a month-long run as direct support to Edguy, with Echoes of Eternity and Light This City rounding out the bill. This trek marks the group's fifth and likely final Stateside run in support of their critically acclaimed album, "The Scattering Of Ashes."
Due to popular demand, Tim Roth (guitars, vocals) recently posted several new guitar lessons on his YouTube page.
Roth states: "The Dream Theater tour was a dream come true for us. All of our interludes and progressive parts come from DT, so it was amazing to get to know them. It's a great feeling to meet people that you look up to and they end up being really nice people. I have never seen players that good in my life! The whole tour was a lot of fun and we ended up getting to play in some huge venues.
"We are just about to start the last tour for "The Scattering Of Ashes" campaign with Edguy, Echoes Of Eternity and Light This City. We are direct support to Edguy and toured with them in 2005, so I know the shows will be killer. Now, we have a much bigger fan base and we can't wait to see everybody on the road."
Into Eternity recently shot a stunning conceptual video for the track, "Timeless Winter", with up-and-coming director Don Thompson, and its stunning imagery is sure to help it stand apart from the pack. The video is featured in the group's new E-Card, which also has all of Roth's YouTube guitar lessons, in addition to a new photo gallery.
Light This City Issue Tour Update
Bay Area thrashers LIGHT THIS CITY are currently on the road, headlining the Thrash and Burn Tour, alongside labelmates THE FUNERAL PYRE. The bands has offered this update from the road: "The Thrash and Burn Tour 07 is going amazing! The first week was definitely awesome, and beyond our expectations. The first five shows were with Cerberus and Antagonist, who killed it each night. Highlights include Redwood City, Fresno, and The Chain Reaction! Thanks to everyone who have come out to the shows so far. Besides the horrible, horrible heat in the desert, we couldn't be having a better time. We are now with The Funeral Pyre and Antagonist for the rest of the tour. This tour has been so awesome because everyone on the tour are pretty much best friends. We have known these bands for a long time and toured with them before, so we are one big heavy metal family. We have three new awesome merch designs on this tour, so if you are planning on coming to any of the shows, prepare to see some awesome new shirts and hoodies. This is our first tour headlining, so we sincerely appreciate everyone who has come out to the shows thus far. See you on the rest of the dates!"
The band continues to support its latest effort, 'Facing The Thousand,' which saw a fall 2006 release through Prosthetic Records. The band recently shot a video for the track "The Unwelcome Savior" with director Soren (Unearth), which can be seen here.

Edguy To Open For Aerosmith In Germany
On being selected by AEROSMITH as the direct support band for three German shows in June, EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet shares:
"Anybody who can hold a guitar must be influenced by AEROSMITH and everybody who thinks he's a good frontman has to have seen Steven Tyler on stage at least once. I was 18 when I saw them live and I remember I was impressed. And Jesus, now we're gonna be on the road with those guys! It's a real honor for us to be invited by a band of this scope and dimension. They are living legends, and to me, they have ten times bigger balls than most bands I've seen live. These nights will be elephant testicle-heavy rocking entertainment!"
EDGUY will be opening for AEROSMITH at the following shows:
June 10 - Butzbach, Germany - Hessentag Arena
June 12 - Karlsruhe, Germany - DM Arena
June 14 - Munich, Germany - Olympia Hall
EDGUY's second-ever tour of North America will launch on September 11th in Hartford, Connecticut in support of 2006's Rocket Ride. The touring line-up will include Canada's Into Eternity, Light This City from California's Bay Area, and labelmates ECHOES OF ETERNITY from Los Angeles.
Susperia Pull Out Of Edguy Tour
Due to logistical problems, Norway's SUSPERIA will no longer be part of the EDGUY North American tour, which will launch on Tuesday, September 11 in Hartford, Connecticut. Replacing SUSPERIA on the bill will be Bay Area thrashers LIGHT THIS CITY. The trek will also include Canada's INTO ETERNITY.
Light This City Offer Update From the Road
Bay Area thrashers LIGHT THIS CITY are nearing completion of the band's current tour alongside Horse The Band, The Number 12 Looks Like You and So Many Dynamos. Continuing to tour virtually non-stop since last summer, LIGHT THIS CITY will follow this tour up with a short run alongside labelmates ALL THAT REMAINS up the West Coast as direct support, and follow that up with yet-to-be-confirmed summer touring plans.
The band recently caught up with PureGrainAudio.com earlier in April in Toronto for an interview, and the video of the interview can be seen here. A few excerpts are available below:
On recording the new album:
"The last album and the first album, ' The Hero Cycle ,' I wrote all the music myself because the guitar players we had at the time didn't really want to write or didn't really know how to write," says drummer Ben Murray. "So, I took that all on myself. Since the new album, having Brian and Steve in the band, after ' Remains of the Gods ' came out, it's really stepped up everything. Brian and I wrote a lot of it, and Steve wrote a few things here and there, but I think everyone in the band finally came together....For me, personally, it was a huge step up from the last album."
On the current tour with Horse The Band , The Number 12 Looks Like You and So Many Dynamos :
"It's weird, because this is the first tour, where we didn't know any of the bands beforehand," frontwoman Laura Nichol says. "All our other tours, we've at least played a show or gone on tour with them [the other bands] or something. Everyone's just getting along so well. Their sets are so entertaining; this is probably the most entertaining tour I've ever been on, in terms of watching the other bands' sets."
On the band's recently completed music video :
"You don't expect, when you see music videos, you don't really see it as demanding," guitarist Brian Forbes says. "It's not crazy, hard work, but it's still basically any shot that you're in, you're playing the whole song and you've got to give it your all." With a chuckle he adds, " Yeah, I got shot in the balls, it was pretty hot."
The video, for the track "The Unwelcome Savior," was helmed by director Soren (Unearth) earlier this spring and the video is available on YouTube or below. The band continues to support it's third record, and second for Prosthetic, ' Facing The Thousand ,' which came out in the fall of 2006.

Light This City Needs a New Guitar Player
Light This City post the following update:
"Hey, everyone. Unfortunately, on our last tour, Steve notified us that he would be leaving LIGHT THIS CITY after the Horse the Band tour. We are definitely bummed about this, but it has come to a point where he feels he needs to personally and musically move in another direction. We respect his wishes completely and thank him wholeheartedly for his time in LIGHT THIS CITY. He is an amazing guy and an even better guitar player! This only means one thing: we need a new guitar player! These are the requirements we are looking for:
-Must be between the ages of 18 and 25
-Preferably should have some touring experience, and be prepared to spend a lot of time on the road.
-Must have professional equipment
-Must live in the Bay Area, California, or be willing to relocate.
-Must be extremely comfortable playing thrash/melodic death metal.
We will be having tryouts when we get back in May in the Bay Area. Anyone who is interested should learn the songs “Exile” and “Cradle for a King,” which are on our MySpace page. Please email us at lightthiscity@yahoo.com with the heading “Guitar Player” if you are interested. Anyone outside of the Bay Area, feel free to record yourselves playing these songs and send us the videos! Hope to hear from some of you soon. Stay metal.
- Light This City"

To check out the video for the song "The Unwelcome Savior," head over to YouTube or MySpace or view it on the article detail here.
"It was an amazing experience," the band previously stated, "and we felt honored to work with someone who has so much experience capturing the intensity of this style of music. What we saw of the video looked stunning, and we can't wait for it to make its online and television debut!"
The clip comes from the band's most recent offering, 'Facing The Thousand,' released last fall. Recorded with producer Zack Ohren (Animosity, All Shall Perish) at Castle Ultimate Studios in Emeryville, Calif. and featuring artwork from RobotPlague's Mario Garza (Suicide Silence, Through The Eyes of the Dead, He Is Legend), the record is the follow-up to 2005's Prosthetic Records debut, 'Remains of the Gods.'
Currently gearing up for a handful of headlining shows on the way out to New York, LIGHT THIS CITY will meet up with Horse The Band, The Number 12 Looks Like You and So Many Dynamos for the "School of Rock Tour," while another tour for the band is being lined up for the early summer.
