Trivium was formed in 2000 in Altamonte Springs Florida - Travis Smith, Matt Heafy and two other band mates met at Travis's house to learn and cover "For Whom the Bell Tolls" for his high school's Battle of the Bands competition. Even though they were inexperienced, they quickly formulated a band - the aggression of Trivium was popular among the high school crowd. Shortly after the Battle of the Bands show Trivium performed in a local music contest, Indiefest, taking 2nd place overall. After a couple local party gigs, Trivium's original singer left the band.
It was decided that Matt would take on the lead vocal duties as well as being the lead & rhythm guitarist and a search was underway for a rhythm guitarist. An old band mate of Travis', Brent Young earned the spot. With the new line up, Trivium played several garage gigs, party gigs, small clubs, and high school level competitions, gaining experience and writing more original songs. Soon, Trivium headed into a local studio to record a three-song demo.
Brent eventually moved to bass after Trivium's bassist departed.
Trivium's fan base began to grow, the band began to receive more local buzz and awards. Carrying a full set of originals, Trivium tore up club after club during the summer, opened for national acts - placed 1st for Battle of the Bands in high school and Matt was awarded The Best Metal Guitarist Award for 2002 presented by The Orlando Metal Awards.
Trivium recorded four more originals for their next demo. After this demo was recorded the musical direction of the band changed to something that the band and critics categorize as Melodic Death Metalcore. After one more 7-song demo EP, LifeForce records from Germany signed the band in May of 2003 and the band released 'Ember To Inferno' before adding second guitarist Corey Beaulieu and joining Roadrunner in April 2004.

Ever the fan-friendly band, TRIVIUM are putting out the call for 300 of their biggest fans to come down and be a part of video. The band is looking for people at least 16 years old, who can commit to showing up on time, and staying the entire day. If this sounds like you, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and provide your name, t-shirt size (very important), email address and phone number. After the video shoot, TRIVIUM will be preparing for their first ever Ozzfest tour kicking off in July 15 at the Tweeter Center in Mansfield, MA. Lead-singer/guitarist Matt Heafy was recently named a "team captain" along with SLIPKNOT's Joey Jordison, MACHINE HEAD's Robert Flynn and ex-FEAR FACTORY guitarist Dino Cazares and will be writing and recording tracks for the Roadrunner Records' 25th anniversary all-star record on his time off.
Getting up-close and personal with their fans is nothing new to TRIVIUM who, since this time last year, has logged over 150 shows around the world. Starting with last years Road Rage tour with MACHINE HEAD and CHIMAIRA, TRIVIUM have crisscrossed the world bringing thirsty music lovers the songs off "Ascendancy" and their debut album "Ember to Inferno" (Lifeforce Records). In 2005 alone, TRIVIUM opened up for DANZIG and THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN as well as playing the most recent Road Rage tour with labelmates 3 INCHES OF BLOOD, STILL REMAINS and THE AGONY SCENE.
Released Mach 15 in the United States, "Ascendancy" rocketed to No. 4 on the Top New Artist chart with 7,000 albums sold and No. 151 on the The Billboard 200 chart. To date, the album has sold over 40,000 copies. In addition, the band was No. 1 for over two months at college and metal radio, a rare feat for a band this early in their career, and the videos for "Like Light to the Flies" and "Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr", continue to be spun on MTV2 and Fuse. In addition, TRIVIUM will appear on the cover of the U.K. weekly rock magazine Kerrang! in July and were nominated for a Metal Hammer award, also playing the awards show.
Formed in 2000 in Orlando, FL, by high school friends Travis Smith (drums) and Matt Heafy, TRIVIUM made a name on the local scene by winning several battle-of-the-bands competitions. After various line-up changes, guitarist Corey Beaulieu joined the group and they released "Ember to Inferno" on Germany's Lifeforce Records in 2003. Bassist Paolo Gregoletto solidified the line-up in 2004.
Roadrunner Records has advanced in the process of putting together the ground-breaking "Roadrunner All-Stars" record to mark the label's 25th Anniversary. The full-length release will contain original musical collaborations between past and present Roadrunner artists. Approximately 50 musicians are expected to participate in this record, making it a most elaborate collaboration project.
Four central musicians have been chosen to produce and write all the songs. Previously announced were Joey Jordison (Slipknot), Dino Cazares (ex-Fear Factory/Brujeria) and Robert Flynn (Machine Head). The fourth writer/producer has recently been selected - 19 year-old metal prodigy Matt Heafy will take the lead of the fourth team. His band, Trivium, has been called "the valedictorian(s) of the 2005 metal class" by Hit Parader Magazine. "It blew my mind to be asked to participate on this album and write a few tracks," says Heafy "It's an amazing honor to be able to record with artists that I used to emulate and listen to growing up." These four musicians will not only play on the songs they have written but also assemble a unique team of Roadrunner artists to appear on each track.
Notable progress has been made in Jordison's, Cazares' and Flynn's teams. Music has been laid down, but vocals have yet to be added. The vocalists for the tracks have not been confirmed as of yet. The artists that have contributed to the tracks recorded thus far are: More...

According to MTV.com, the fourth mystery producer behind Roadrunner Records' forthcoming "Roadrunner All-Stars" disc — which is expected to contain original tracks that are the product of collaborations between past and present members of the label's roster — has been revealed.
Joining producers/composers Joey Jordison of SLIPKNOT, Dino Cazares of FEAR FACTORY and MACHINE HEAD's Robert Flynn will be Matt Heafy of TRIVIUM.
All four musicians will not only play on the songs they've written, but will assemble a team of artists to record the tracks. In order to cover as wide a spectrum as possible, no musician will play for more than one writer/producer and each song will feature a different vocalist.
The project is being overseen by longtime Roadrunner A&R man Monte Conner. Mixing duties will be handled by legendary hard rock producer Colin Richardson. The album is tentatively scheduled for release in the fall of 2005.
DISTURBED have announced their first show outside of the Chicago region. The band will be headlining this years 'Rockfest X' in Portland, Oregon. Joining them will be:

I had the chance to attend the Road Rage Tour 2005 when it made a blistering halt in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The show took place at the Trocadero Theater's Balcony Bar, which holds about two, maybe three-hundred people at best. The show was insane, although no moshing was allowed due to the size of the place, it was still an amazing show. The pictures are now up in the gallery section of this page, click here to view them.
On another note, I have a show report which will be posted for this same show tomorrow. I also conducted an interview with all four bands (Trivium, 3 Inches of Blood, The Agony Scene and Still Remains) so check back in the very near future for that as well!

Ozzfest — the king of festivals — triumphantly returns this summer to celebrate its hard-earned 10th anniversary with the staggering line-up of BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN, ROB ZOMBIE, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, SHADOWS FALL and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. The summer's premier concert festival — which has propelled many of today’s rock bands to superstardom while paying close attention to its discerning fans — will roll out July 15 in Boston and visit 26 cities by the time it reaches West Palm Beach on September 4. The Hot Topic Second Stage will be headlined by ZOMBIE and feature a preview of rock's rising stars, including AS I LAY DYING, MASTODON, THE HAUNTED, IN FLAMES, ARCH ENEMY, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, BURY YOUR DEAD, SOILWORK, TRIVIUM, IT DIES TODAY, A DOZEN FURIES and more.
"I'm most proud of the success of Ozzfest," says founder Sharon Osbourne. "Everyone said it would never happen and 10 years later we are still in business." In fact, 125 bands, 238 shows and over 4 million fans later, the all-day extravaganza of music and deranged merriment is roaring louder than ever. History in the making, 2005 marks the first time metal legends BLACK SABBATH and IRON MAIDEN have toured together and also represents IRON MAIDEN's first Ozzfest appearance.
IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson said, "This summer's MAIDEN touring is based on the recent 'Early Days' DVD and all the songs we do at Ozzfest will be from our first four albums — 'Iron Maiden', 'Killers', 'Number of the Beast' and 'Piece of Mind'. We will be bringing over our full European show, naturally including as special guest Eddie in various appropriate guises!! The stage sets, production and backdrops will recreate aspects of the shows on the tours around those albums — only bigger… much bigger!!! We don’t know if anyone has done anything like this before but we think it’s something the fans will really appreciate both in the choice of songs and in the production values."
