Band Photo: Trivium (?)
From: Altamonte Springs, FL, United States
Last Known Status: Active
Trivium was formed in 2000 in Altamonte Springs Florida - Travis Smith, Matt Heafy and two other band mates met at Travis's house to learn and cover "For Whom the Bell Tolls" for his high school's Battle of the Bands competition. Even though they were inexperienced, they quickly formulated a band - the aggression of Trivium was popular among the high school crowd. Shortly after the Battle of the Bands show Trivium performed in a local music contest, Indiefest, taking 2nd place overall. After a couple local party gigs, Trivium's original singer left the band.
It was decided that Matt would take on the lead vocal duties as well as being the lead & rhythm guitarist and a search was underway for a rhythm guitarist. An old band mate of Travis', Brent Young earned the spot. With the new line up, Trivium played several garage gigs, party gigs, small clubs, and high school level competitions, gaining experience and writing more original songs. Soon, Trivium headed into a local studio to record a three-song demo.
Brent eventually moved to bass after Trivium's bassist departed.
Trivium's fan base began to grow, the band began to receive more local buzz and awards. Carrying a full set of originals, Trivium tore up club after club during the summer, opened for national acts - placed 1st for Battle of the Bands in high school and Matt was awarded The Best Metal Guitarist Award for 2002 presented by The Orlando Metal Awards.
Trivium recorded four more originals for their next demo. After this demo was recorded the musical direction of the band changed to something that the band and critics categorize as Melodic Death Metalcore. After one more 7-song demo EP, LifeForce records from Germany signed the band in May of 2003 and the band released 'Ember To Inferno' before adding second guitarist Corey Beaulieu and joining Roadrunner in April 2004.

Roadrunner Records has put together a groundbreaking record to mark the label’s 25th Anniversary. The group is called ROADRUNNER UNITED and the album titled "The All-Star Sessions". This full-length release, in stores on October 11, 2005, is a "master class" in hard rock/metal. Boasting 57 artists from 45 of Roadrunner's past and present bands, the album will contain original tracks that are collaborations between numerous Roadrunner stars.
Four central musicians were originally chosen to produce and write the songs. Joey Jordison (SLIPKNOT), Dino Cazares (ex-FEAR FACTORY/BRUJERIA), Robert Flynn (MACHINE HEAD) and Matthew Heafy (TRIVIUM). These four musicians play on the songs they have written and have also assembled a unique team of artists to appear on each track. In order to cover as wide a spectrum as possible, no musician has played for more than one writer/producer and each song features a different vocalist.
In addition to these stellar teams of musicians, there will also be special additional tracks from ex-Roadrunner artist, Josh Silver — TYPE O NEGATIVE's longtime producer/keyboardist. In the spirit of the project, Silver has included Roadrunner artists on his tracks as well… OPETH's Mikael Åkerfeldt appears on the Silver-written "Roads".
Track names from the Jordison team include "Constitution Down" (with vocals by Kyle Thomas of FLOODGATE/EXHORDER), "Tired ‘N Lonely" (with vocals from Keith Caputo of LIFE OF AGONY) and "Annihilation by the Hand of God" (with vocals from Glen Benton of DEICIDE), among others. Flynn's camp has completed songs like "The Dagger" (with vocals from Howard Jones of KILLSWITCH ENGAGE) and "The Rich Man" (with vocals from Corey Taylor of SLIPKNOT), among others. "The End" (with vocals from Matt Heafy of TRIVIUM) and "The Enemy" (with vocals from Mark Hunter of CHIMAIRA) are some of the team-Cazares product. And tracks from Heafy's sessions include "The Dawn of a Golden Age" (with vocals from Dani Filth of CRADLE OF FILTH), "Superheroes" (with vocals from Michale Graves of the MISFITS) and "Blood and Flames" (with vocals from Jesse Leach — ex-KILLSWITCH ENGAGE singer). Swedish/German extreme metallers ARCH ENEMY kicked off their first U.S. tour in support of "Doomsday Machine", their highly anticipated new album, last week on Ozzfest to rave reviews. The dynamic offering was mixed by acclaimed producer Andy Sneap (KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, NEVERMORE, OPETH) and features striking cover art by renowned artist Joachim Luetke (DIMMU BORGIR). A video for the track "Nemesis", shot by renowned director George Bravo (who also shot the group's "We Will Rise" clip), is now complete; look for it to make its "Headbanger's Ball" and "Metal Asylum" debut early next month. Be sure to also check out Decibel magazine's striking Angela Gossow cover feature, which is currently on stands.
Daniel Erlandsson (drums) checks in with a report from the road: "We are now back on track again after having missed the Camden, N.J. show, which was very disappointing, but shit happens and tour busses do break down. We ended up drinking ourselves silly while listening to old SCORPIONS albums in a parking lot.
"We just played another Ozzfest show today, this time in Darien Lakes, which is close to Buffalo. It was a great show, and we received an amazing response. We are playing one new song, 'Nemesis', off our new album, 'Doomsday Machine', and it is great to see the fans' amazing responses. A big thank you to all the people getting it on in the moshpit and all the people attending the FYE and Jägermeister signing sessions after our set, you all rule! Tomorrow we're playing another off-date show in London, Ontario with IN FLAMES and TRIVIUM, which should be another good one. We are looking forward to seeing all the fans there.
"No more groundbreaking news from here apart from me witnessing a couple of famous faces in the catering area. I'll have to leave you guessing."

On Tuesday, June 21, TRIVIUM will be shooting a music video for their song "A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation" in their hometown of Orlando, Fl. Ever the fan-friendly band, TRIVIUM are putting out the call for 300 of their biggest fans to come down and be a part of video. The band is looking for people at least 16 years old, who can commit to showing up on time, and staying the entire day. If this sounds like you, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and provide your name, t-shirt size (very important), email address and phone number. After the video shoot, TRIVIUM will be preparing for their first ever Ozzfest tour kicking off in July 15 at the Tweeter Center in Mansfield, MA. Lead-singer/guitarist Matt Heafy was recently named a "team captain" along with SLIPKNOT's Joey Jordison, MACHINE HEAD's Robert Flynn and ex-FEAR FACTORY guitarist Dino Cazares and will be writing and recording tracks for the Roadrunner Records' 25th anniversary all-star record on his time off.
Getting up-close and personal with their fans is nothing new to TRIVIUM who, since this time last year, has logged over 150 shows around the world. Starting with last years Road Rage tour with MACHINE HEAD and CHIMAIRA, TRIVIUM have crisscrossed the world bringing thirsty music lovers the songs off "Ascendancy" and their debut album "Ember to Inferno" (Lifeforce Records). In 2005 alone, TRIVIUM opened up for DANZIG and THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN as well as playing the most recent Road Rage tour with labelmates 3 INCHES OF BLOOD, STILL REMAINS and THE AGONY SCENE.
Released Mach 15 in the United States, "Ascendancy" rocketed to No. 4 on the Top New Artist chart with 7,000 albums sold and No. 151 on the The Billboard 200 chart. To date, the album has sold over 40,000 copies. In addition, the band was No. 1 for over two months at college and metal radio, a rare feat for a band this early in their career, and the videos for "Like Light to the Flies" and "Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr", continue to be spun on MTV2 and Fuse. In addition, TRIVIUM will appear on the cover of the U.K. weekly rock magazine Kerrang! in July and were nominated for a Metal Hammer award, also playing the awards show.
Formed in 2000 in Orlando, FL, by high school friends Travis Smith (drums) and Matt Heafy, TRIVIUM made a name on the local scene by winning several battle-of-the-bands competitions. After various line-up changes, guitarist Corey Beaulieu joined the group and they released "Ember to Inferno" on Germany's Lifeforce Records in 2003. Bassist Paolo Gregoletto solidified the line-up in 2004.
Roadrunner Records has advanced in the process of putting together the ground-breaking "Roadrunner All-Stars" record to mark the label's 25th Anniversary. The full-length release will contain original musical collaborations between past and present Roadrunner artists. Approximately 50 musicians are expected to participate in this record, making it a most elaborate collaboration project.
Four central musicians have been chosen to produce and write all the songs. Previously announced were Joey Jordison (Slipknot), Dino Cazares (ex-Fear Factory/Brujeria) and Robert Flynn (Machine Head). The fourth writer/producer has recently been selected - 19 year-old metal prodigy Matt Heafy will take the lead of the fourth team. His band, Trivium, has been called "the valedictorian(s) of the 2005 metal class" by Hit Parader Magazine. "It blew my mind to be asked to participate on this album and write a few tracks," says Heafy "It's an amazing honor to be able to record with artists that I used to emulate and listen to growing up." These four musicians will not only play on the songs they have written but also assemble a unique team of Roadrunner artists to appear on each track.
Notable progress has been made in Jordison's, Cazares' and Flynn's teams. Music has been laid down, but vocals have yet to be added. The vocalists for the tracks have not been confirmed as of yet. The artists that have contributed to the tracks recorded thus far are: More...
