Orange Goblin To Release New Album This June

Orange Goblin have wrapped up recording their ninth full-length release “The Wolf Bites Back” at Orgone Studios in Bedfordshire, England with producer Jaime Gomez Arellano (Ghost, Paradise Lost) behind the boards.

Comments frontman Ben Ward :

“We are very excited about this new album. ‘The Wolf Bites Back‘ is our strongest and most diverse collection of songs to date, it’s certainly a lot darker both musically and lyrically.

It is still definitely a distinct Orange Goblin album but we have incorporated a lot more variation on this record and there are hints of Can, Captain Beyond, Wishbone Ash and The Stooges nestling amongst the obvious Sabbath and Motörhead influences. Lyrically I have explored everything from alien serial killers to zombie biker gangs, Buddhist warriors through to descendants of the Salem witches!”

“There was definitely a concerted effort to make sure all the songs could work in a live environment which gives the album a more raw, stripped back feel – something that I feel has been lacking from good rock and metal in recent years.

Working with Jaime Gomez Arellano was really productive and a great experience, especially going back to tracking stuff to tape. I feel that he got the best out of all of us as musicians and songwriters and that really comes across in the songs, there is an air of confidence and experience. It was also a real honour for us to have Phil Campbell of Motörhead lending his hand to a couple of solos on there too!”

Track titles include: More...

Sunday Old School: Orange Goblin

There seems to be a theory these days that younger metal bands aren't particularly interested in where their style came from, focusing too much instead of who can be the most "brutal." Fortunately though, there will always be those who never forget the time when metal featured great riffs, a fun atmosphere and a band named Black Sabbath. This week, we'll be looking at a British band, who in the time when death and black metal had been firmly established and industrial metal was continually gaining momentum, showed that the roots and traditional heavy metal were still cool and they are called, Orange Goblin.

The London quartet was formed in 1995, by vocalist Ben Ward, bassist (and former Queens Park Rangers trainee,) Martyn Millard, drummer Chris Turner and guitarist Pete O'Malley, originally using the name Our Haunted Kingdom, under which moniker they released a split with a young doom metal named Electric Wizard a year later through Rise Above Records, the label owned by another doom cult hero, Lee Dorrian of Cathedral (and formerly of Napalm Death.) This was the band's only release as Our Haunted Kingdom, before changing to the now familiar name, Orange Goblin before releasing their debut album, "Frequencies From Planet Ten," through the same label in 1997. Though not all critics were impressed, it was well received by fans of the stoner metal genre, with some citing them as future champions in the field. More...

Now, twenty years on, I have to pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming that Orange Goblin are heading back to North America as main support to the mighty Down.

"It really is fairytale stuff for us. Down are one of the bands that are the reason Orange Goblin exists. To be given this opportunity to go out to promote our brand new album, Back From The Abyss, to the Down fans is just a dream come true the rest of the band and I can't wait to get started. Orange Goblin Comments On Upcoming Album

Orange Goblin will release "Back From The Abyss" this coming October 7th via Candlelight Records, and today front man Ben Ward comments on the release:

""Back from the Abyss" is the sound of Orange Goblin firing on all cylinders! From the Sabbathian, weighty-groove of 'Sabbath Hex,' the Motorhead-styled punk snarl of 'The Devil's Whip,' the epic, Maiden-esque gallop of 'Mythical Knives,' through to the apocalyptic doom of 'The Shadow Over Innsmouth;' this is the best of all of our individual influences pulled together. We have created the definitive Orange Goblin album.

"Following the great, worldwide reception of 'A Eulogy For The Damned' and the subsequent 2 years of touring everywhere, we knew we had a lot to live up to. But we were prepared and entered the studio armed with an arsenal of killer riffs! They are all present on this album, continuing the Orange Goblin trend of never being afraid to move forward or trying something new. By doing so we have created a unique, heavy sound that lies somewhere between doom, stoner, classic metal, 70's inspired heavy-rock, punk, blues and everything in between.

"We worked with producer Jamie Dodd at The Animal Farm in London again as he did such a great job on the last record and I think he has even gone one better this time around! Adding Jamie’s amazing production to the outstanding performances and songwriting of the band, we have made an album we are all very proud of.

"Our last album gave the band new life and sent us off into the unknown. This new album sees Orange Goblin stretching the limits once more.........Back from the Abyss and ready to rock all over again!!" More...

Orange Goblin Reveals New Album Details

Candlelight Records today confirms October 7th as the North American release date for Orange Gobline's new album, "Back From The Abyss."

Recorded earlier this year in London, the album reunites the band with producer Jamie Dodd. It was mastered at Turan Audio in late July. The album will be available for pre-order via iTunes and Amazon beginning August 26th.

Loudwire.com is celebrating the announcement with an exclusive North American stream of the album’s first single, "The Devil’s Whip." Stream the track right here.

Vocalist Ben Ward says: “this song is a real old-school banger stuffed full of riffs, sleaze, filth, and speed… just like the best metal should be! It’s Motorhead-style, outlaw-biker rock in all its glory, destined to get heads banging, fists pumping, drinks flowing and asses shaking. If you don’t find yourself breaking the speed limit to this song, desperate to find the roughest bar in town, start a fight and spending the night in a cell, then you are quite clearly already dead. Let’s ride, let loose, let’s rip… that’s right, you can’t escape The Devil’s Whip.” More...

Orange Goblin And Winterfylleth To Play Damnation

English stoner rock band Orange Goblin is the latest name to be added to the 10th anniversary Damnation Festival bill.

Orange Gobline will be joined by black metal quartet Winterfylleth and post-punk outfit October File, with both bands airing material from new albums at Leeds University Union on Saturday, November 1st.

The trio of new additions bolster an impressively eclectic line-up which already boasts Bolt Thrower's only U.K. appearance, a Cannibal Corpse headline set and St. Vitus performing "Born Too Late" in full.

Orange Goblin said: "Over the last few years, Damnation has cemented itself into one of the UK's leading metal festivals, so it is a great honour to be asked back to play for a second time.
"It is already a great line up of bands, and we can't wait to be part of it."

Winterfylleth added: "We are proud to announce we will be playing Damnation Festival once again in 2014. The response we had in 2012 was mind blowing and we hope to see you all there once again. Damnation is a festival we always attend as fans regardless of playing and a must for all serious metal fans. We have a new album out a few weeks before the festival, so will be playing some exclusive new material for the first time on the day.”

October File also comments: "We are over the moon to be playing what is becoming one of the most important and special events in the UK. Damnation has worked hard to forge a name that is a must for fans and underground talent."

The line-up for Damnation Festival so far includes: Bolt Thrower, Cannibal Corpse, Saint Vitus, Raging Speedhorn, Orange Goblin, Anaal Nathrakh, Ahab, Revocation, Solstafir, Winterfylleth, H A R K, October File, Bast, Atlantis and Corrupt Moral Altar, with many more bands to be announced across four stages.
