Lake Bukkake Added To Metal Suckfest

The Metal Suckfest -- the 2-day, 20-band, MetalSucks-curated metal festival being held at NYC's Gramercy Theater on November 4th and 5th -- has made a last minute addition to its Day 1 roster: NYC pornogrind act Lake Bukkake will open the fest, prior to headliners Municipal Waste, God Forbid, Today is the Day, Howl, Black Tusk, and many more. Metalsucks commented:

"After months and months and months of negotiations — and by 'negotiations,' we mean 'us pestering and begging them constantly' — the group has FINALLY agreed to emerge from their shell to play the opening set on Day 1 of The Metal Suckfest, one week from today, Friday, November 4. The band will play both I Left My Heart…and 1996's Shut Up it’s Good for Your Complexion in their entirety. (The combined running time of both albums is less than fifteen minutes.)

"They also PROMISED us to debut at LEAST two songs from Chinese Bukkakacy, which they have, indeed, been working on for awhile (although apparently it may not be called that anymore — 'The idea seemed pretty funny in 2006, not so much anymore,' the band told us by e-mail)."

Abigail Williams Enters The Studio

Abigail Williams will begin recording the band's third full-length album today. The process begins in the band’s new home of Southern California as the members enter Keene Machine Studios with The Faceless’ Michael Keene and Abigail Williams frontman Ken Sorceron engineering. Former Abigail Williams and Black Dahlia Murder drummer Zach Gibson will be playing on the album, as previous band mate Ken Bedene focuses on The Aborted.

“We are very excited to announce the start of drum tracking for our third full-length. Drummer Zach Gibson will be behind the kit on this record, which is exciting for us because we have not recorded with him since the Legend EP,” states Sorceron. “Expect some interesting twists and turns once again with this album as we plan to double track some of the drums and some of the compositions are quite lengthy, one even reaching the 15-minute plus range. This will prove to be our most epic material to date. We plan to video our progress and upload video blogs as we go.”

Abigail Williams will continue recording the new album over the next month, set for completion in late October before embarking on the band's previously announced North American tour supporting Norway’s legendary Mayhem. The new album has an anticipated January release, followed by additional U.S. tours supporting Dark Funeral and then Deicide.

Abigail Williams Writing New Album

Abigail Williams has nearly completed the writing phase on material that is planned for the band’s new album and follow-up to "In the Absence of Light" (reviewed here), which is expected for release in early 2012. The band is looking forward to testing out some of the new songs later next month when it returns to stateside venues for a string of dates that is set to begin August 25th in Las Vegas and conclude when the band performs alongside Morbid Angel in Los Angeles on September 23rd.

Band leader Sorceron commented on recent European tour dates, "The shows were excellent. We had a great time with our friends in Iskald and Thulcandra and hope we can join them again in the future. A big thanks to everyone who came out to the shows; we really appreciate your support. The upcoming dates have us headlining in the west including the Rocky Mountain Goat Roast; we are co-headlining the fest with Misery Index. The Scottsdale show has us sharing the stage once more with ex-hometown friends Vehemence and Landmine Marathon. And what more can I say about playing with Morbid Angel other than how awesome it will be to finally share the stage with a band we grew up listening to?"

Sorceron also said of the upcoming album, "the new material is a continuation of our last album but with more atmosphere and far more extreme tempos. We are adding back some of the symphonic elements that were on In the Shadow of a Thousand Suns album but without sacrificing any of the edge that was on In the Absence of Light. So far we are really happy with everything."

The upcoming Abigail Williams tour dates are as follows:

8/25/2011 Yayo’s - Las Vegas, NV
8/26/2011 Chaser’s - Scottsdale, AZ

Melechesh Steals The Kill From Rotting Christ Live

Ahhhh, death metal. Until tonight I hadn’t been to a proper death metal show in a couple of years at least, if not longer, so when I opened the doors to Reggie’s Rock Club in Chicago’s Near South Side, the stench of decaying flesh wafted into my wanting nostrils and refreshed my soul. Spiked gauntlets and shinguards, bullet belts, corpsepaint, unending blast beats, lots and lots of huge buckles, long black coats – all the pleasantries of a death metal show were coming back to me in trigged kick drum style as I boldly strode past the merch table. The Apostles of Darkness Over The Americas Tour was in town, and headliner Rotting Christ had brought along a bag of very special guests: Melechesh, Hate, Abigail Williams and Lecherous Nocturne. Unfortunately I had a sustenance occasion that precluded my arrival in time for Lecherous Nocturne, but the folks I chatted with said their tech-death was precise and heavy. More...

Warbringer Announces New Drummer Carlos Cruz

Despite practicing and writing together the last two months, WARBRINGER has official announced that Carlos Cruz (Hexen) is their new drummer. The delay in announcement was out of respect to their old drummer and Carlos' former band mates and there was no question about Carlos' playing, songwriting or personality as the band ironically offered Carlos the spot in 2008.

"After years of putting forth nothing but blood, sweat, and tears into my tireless ambitions for playing music, I have finally found an outlet where no more time is wasted. It was flattering to have been approached by Warbringer the first time they made a personnel change in 2008, but this time around it couldn't have felt more like perfect timing," states Carlos. "They're a collective group of humble, open-minded, down-to-earth guys who share the same fanaticism for music as I do and are the tightest musicians I have ever played with. I've never felt so welcomed and inspired to move forward. Even past members of the band have congratulated me and it feels very much like family, not just another band. From some recent serious downfalls in my personal life came this beautiful opportunity and I couldn't be happier. We'll be seeing all YOU Warbringers out on the road soon!"

Carlos will be making his live debut in Mexico City on March 5th at the Eyescream Festival alongside Asesino, Anvil, Toxic Holocaust and Abigail Williams. WARBRINGER plan to record their third album in April with more live shows in May and June.
