Latest Kreator News
Below is our complete Kreator news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
Brazil's Roadie Crew and Argentina's Jedbangers magazines recently collaborated on a very special story on SOULFLY/ex-SEPULTURA frontman Max Cavalera. In addition to arranging a lengthy interview with Max conducted by Thiago Sarkis and Fernando Ibáñez, the two publications invited several world-renowned musicians who witnessed and/or toured with Cavalera in the early years of his career to talk about his importance to the heavy metal scene and to reveal interesting stories about him and SEPULTURA. This ultimate tribute to the most important and influential South American metal musician and band ever is the cover story in the brand new issue of Roadie Crew (which is out on the newsstands right now) and will be a highlight in Jedbangers' next issue, which will be released in two weeks (featuring MEGADETH's Dave Mustaine on the cover).
Here is what some of heavy metal's most renowned musicians have had to say about Max Cavalera and SEPULTURA:
Lemmy Kilmister (MOTÖRHEAD):
"Max Cavalera is a very important man. He with the rest of SEPULTURA were the first Brazilian band to play outside of Brazil, and gain a large, fanatical following. We met them in 1991 when we played together, and we soon realized they were arrogant sons of bitches same as we were! Since then we've played with Max, SEPULTURA, then SOULFLY, and with SEPULTURA featuring Derrick, the big lad. They always put on a great show, the fans go crazy, and they keep pushing the odds. Luck to them."
Vinnie Paul Abbott (HELLYEAH, ex-PANTERA, DAMAGEPLAN):
"Max is metal! We had the pleasure of having both SEPUTURA and SOULFLY touring with PANTERA and every night they gave us a run for the money. Max writes intense lyrics and delivers them with conviction and passion. His riffs are crushing and he has always had a great metal guitar sound. In short, Max is a metal god and he lives and breathes it every day. He and his bands put Brazil on the heavy metal map and brought a new tribal feel to the scene. So, here's to Max: 'dente preto my brother!!!'"
Mille Petrozza (KREATOR):
"I've known Max since '85. He was my first penpal from Brazil. Back then his name was Max Possessed and his brother Igor drew a self-made SEPULTURA t-shirt for me. Max is still a good friend who hasn't changed a bit over the years. If we run into each other on festivals nowadays it's always cool and relaxed. Max is one of metal's most creative and down-to-earth characters. A living legend!"
Kelly Shaefer (ATHEIST, NEUROTICA, UNHEARD):
"Max Cavalera is a fucking living legend, easily one of the most influential characters to ever play metal. When we first met years ago during the recording of 'Beneath the Remains', I was fortunate enough to work with him on a tune called 'Stronger Than Hate'. I wrote some lyrics, and helped him with his pronunciations, etc., because at that point he was not speaking English nearly as well as he does today. When I first heard the finished product, I was blown away at the quality of the music of SEPULTURA: they had great riffs, massive drumming, and it was quite memorable. I think since then, he has influenced many, many bands, and many in today's metal scene owe him a great deal of gratitude. I have maximum respect for Max, and all his work including SOULFLY. I tip my metal hat to you Max, you're a bad-ass mutherfucker!!!"
L.G. Petrov (ENTOMBED):
"Max and SEPULTURA were the ones that opened the doors for many bands from South America, and they got the rest of the world's attention with their full on thrash metal! I love Max's aggressive and energetic vocals. Personally he is one of my favorite singers of all time."
David Vincent (MORBID ANGEL):
"I've always had good thoughts of Max. I'm not only a contemporary and a friend, but also a fan. From SEPULTURA's 'Morbid Vision' death metal days to the innovation of SOULFLY, Max forged a path that in my opinion has given tremendously to the world of music. His early successes helped introduce the world to many new Brazilian artists who may not have had the same opportunities previously. I've seen the 'drink 'till you drop' days of the early 1990s and now the balanced, spiritual plateau he has achieved today, and Max remains a true star. From myself and the rest of MORBID ANGEL: 'Obrigado meu Amigo'!"

Zonda Books has posted this press release:
Garry Sharpe-Young's latest book, "Thrash Metal", is being readied for publication this September. In addition, Zonda Books publishes Garry's "Death Metal", "Black Metal" and "Power Metal" all before the end of the year. These MusicMight titles replace the 2001 editions, which have consistently ranked number 1 on their Amazon.com searches for five years and more.
Thrash Metal. At first mocked by the Rock traditionalists Thrash would swamp the hard n' heavy world propelling one of its own - METALLICA, to the very pinnacle of Rock's elite.
In the early 80s Thrash breathed new life into the Rock scene providing older acts with a much needed kick. This new force opened the floodgates to armies of teens armed with flying Vs, bullet belts and a sense of purpose that would fuel genres such as Thrashcore, Crossover and technical Speed Metal. Without Thrash there would be no Death Metal, no Black Metal. That explosion of aggression has seen subsequent afterblasts, most recently Europe and South America has seen a genuine renaissance of Thrash Metal.
Without doubt, Thrash Metal still continues to make its mark in the biggest possible way. The "big four" - METALLICA, MEGADETH, ANTHRAX and SLAYER are all documented here in the greatest possible detail with full, up to the minute histories, exclusive photographs and global discographies, which include demos, albums, singles, chart positions, track listings and catalogue numbers. Over 400,000 words leave no stone left unturned in pursuit of knowledge of ex-members, rare recordings and career milestones. The author has interviewed all these major acts. Indeed, he interviewed METALLICA's late Cliff Burton just days before his passing. The early days of MEGADETH are straight from the mouth of Dave Mustaine.
Also covered are the legion of groundbreaking Bay Area acts such as METAL CHURCH, TESTAMENT, EXODUS, DEATH ANGEL and HIRAX. The European thrash explosion of KREATOR, RAGE, DESTRUCTION, SODOM, GRAVE DIGGER and HELLOWEEN is also covered in frightening detail. The Pagan Thrash of SABBAT, the avant garde eccentricity of CELTIC FROST and the Funk Thrash of MORDRED - it's all here. The second wave of thrash with major artists such as SEPULTURA, PANTERA and MACHINE HEAD takes the genre right up to the new breed of Thrashers, now a truly world-wide phenomenon. All examined in depth.
Having achieved its quarter of a century, Thrash Metal is not only alive, it is thriving. If you thought this rawest form of Heavy Metal was consigned to the past this book will deliver a rude awakening! Read the book, buy the records and bang that head!!
The scope of 'Thrash Metal' includes artists such as A.N.I.M.A.L., ABANDONED, ABATTOIR, ACCUSSER, ACID, ACID DRINKERS, ACID REIGN, ACROPHET, AFTERMATH, AGENT STEEL, AGONY, AGRESSOR, AIRDASH, AMEBIX, ANESTHESY, ANGEL WITCH, ANGKOR WAT, ANNIHILATOR, ANTHRAX, ANVIL, ANVIL CHORUS, APOKALYPTIC RAIDS, ARBITRATER, ARCH ENEMY, ARMORED SAINT, ARMOURED ANGEL, ARTILLERY, ASSASSIN, AT WAR, ATHEIST, ATOMIZER, ATOMKRAFT, ATROPHY, AZOTIC REIGN...
And that's just some of the "A"'s!

Frontman Mille Petrozza of German thrash metal pioneers KREATOR has issued the following update:
"The KREATOR / CELTIC FROST European tour is now history and I'm still overwhelmed by the impressions of the last few weeks. This tour was historical to us and it was an honour for the whole band to finally have toured with the mighty FROST again! We've had a great time with the boys and it felt like in the early days, just better! Also it was really cool to tour with LEGION OF THE DAMNED and WATAIN (sorry for the fucked up curfew situation in some places!) and got to meet Maurice and Eric and the rest of the guys - great fun! Looking forward to Greece, Serbia and, of course, the festivals in the summer, where we'll present the multimedia stageshow on the huge outdoor stages across Europe! Another U.S. tour is in the making and yes - we are working on new stuff! But for now I want to thank all the KREATOR-heads that came out to celebrate our sounds of terror with us! You people just fucking rule!!!!"
Sweden's WOLF has issued the following statement:
"WOLF are sorry to anounce that [we] have to cancel the dates with CELTIC FROST and KREATOR March 31 - April 3. Niklas Stålvind has got an infection on the vocal chords and must keep quiet for at least a few weeks to avoid serious damage to his voice. The band are looking forward to do the U.K. tour with THE HAUNTED April 25 – May 7. We were VERY much looking forward to the dates with these heroes of ours but Niklas' voice got worse and we had to drop out. We apologize to all fans, bands, promoters etc. that are affected."
WOLF recently announced plans to release its latest album, "The Black Flame", on vinyl. The Swedish underground label Blackcave Records, under license from Century Media, is putting out a limited edition of 500 copies through the Blackcave mailorder. The LP is signed and numbered by the band.
Celtic Frost have released the following statement in regards to an imposed curfew on their UK tour dates:
"While already on the road on the European leg of the "Monotheist" tour, we were informed of strict curfews to our co-headlining shows with Kreator in the UK. These curfews have been imposed locally and are not a stipulation by either Celtic Frost or Kreator. As a matter of fact, we oppose these curfews explicitly, and we have informed both our management and our concert agency accordingly. There is little we can do, however.
Celtic Frost and Kreator and the bands' representatives have spent months trying to assemble an appropriate and exciting touring package of four bands that cover a wide variety of contemporary metal. We loathe the fact that we are now finally back out on the road - in Celtic Frost's case, for the first time in some 17 years - and have to discover that the local booker and promoters in the UK impose curfews so unrealistically strict that it is impossible to put on the regular performances by all four bands on the bill as played everywhere else in Europe. Apparently, some of the UK venues book two events during certain nights, i.e., in this case our tour and another event. This will yield twice the profits for them in one night, but it also means that the first event, namely our tour, will have to clear the venue at an unreasonably early hour, as early as 9:30 or 10:00pm.
There appears to be no proper solution to this situation. Both headliners are categorically unwilling to cancel the performances of either our opening act or special guest, Watain and Legion Of The Damned, in order to play full headlining sets. Just like us, Watain and Legion of the Damned have travelled thousands of miles and gone through great expenses to play all of Europe. The local booker and promoters in the UK are equally unwilling to extend their ludicrous curfews, even for a mere 30 minutes. The alternative, so we are informed, would be a cancelled concert.
Having all four bands play at least a semblance of a set means that the duration of all sets will be severely restricted. In case of Celtic Frost and Kreator, this means sets of 60 minutes, in case of Watain and Legion of the Damned, sets of 20 minutes. This applies to the following shows: Glasgow, Bradford, Wolverhampton, Cardiff, and Nottingham. All bands involved believe that playing a set is better than cancelling any show. That we all are extremely frustrated, if not to say furious, about this situation is obvious."
The tour dates are as follows: More...
Seminal avant-garde metal pioneers CELTIC FROST have revealed that they will play a "limited-duration special guest set of 45 minutes" on their upcoming North American tour with TYPE O NEGATIVE. "In spite of the limited playing time, the band believes that this presents an important opportunity to play for the U.S. audiences again and expand upon the foundation built in the course of last fall's successful 46-date tour of North America," CELTIC FROST writes in a press release.
Due to the preceding co-headliner tour with KREATOR in Europe which will conclude on April 5, 2007, in Hamburg, CELTIC FROST will not be able to play all dates with TYPE O NEGATIVE. Immediately after the final show of the European tour, however, the group will fly to the United States to join TYPE O NEGATIVE for the first time on April 9, 2007, in Chicago and remain with the tour until its conclusion on May 8, 2007, in Baltimore, MD.

They also recently interviewed vocalist/guitarist Miland 'Mille' Petrozza recently. You can check the interview out here.
PyroMusic.net conducted an interview with Kreator's founding member, Vocalist/Guitaris Mille 2 days ago ahead of their Australian tour. Topics discussed include the next album, a new dvd release, Mille's thoughts on the metal scene presently, the loss of fans in the 1990s during their "experimental" years, Ventor's vocal contributions to Kreator live and in studio and the future of the band.
German thrashers KREATOR shot a video for their song "Enemy of God" on February 6 in Berlin. The clip was directed by Jörn Heitmann, known for his work with RAMMSTEIN ("Keine Lust") and THE RASMUS. More information about Heitmann's work can be found at www.katapultfilm.de.
"Enemy of God" is the title track of KREATOR's latest album, available now on SPV Records. The follow-up to 2001's "Violent Revolution" was recorded and mixed at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, England with producer Andy Sneap (MACHINE HEAD, SKINLAB, NEVERMORE). ARCH ENEMY guitarist Michael Amott makes a guest appearance on lead guitar on the track "Murder Fantasies".
KREATOR will be embarking on the "Enemy of God II" North American tour with NAPALM DEATH beginning in late February.
Birmingham’s NAPALM DEATH will be embarking on North America’s ‘The Enemy Of God II’ Tour in late February with Kreator. Vocalist for the band Barney Greenway had this to say, “Hello everyone, looks like we’re coming back to North America to make a load of noise again. The Code Is Red… was such a well-received album, and we’re disappointed that this is only the first time that we’re getting to a lot of places, but we try our best, you know. What are the shows going to be like? Well, we will totally go for it, as ever, and hopefully you’ll all enjoy. It’ll be chaotic, spasmodic and hopefully a beautiful thing. There should be quite a bit of The Code… stuff in there as well."
“There’s also the small matter of the follow-up to The Code…, which we are each working on in our own little corners of the world. I have a few songs ready to go lyrically but nothing concrete to share with you right at this moment unfortunately. I’ve been thinking about the general theme of the album a lot and what I’d like to project in this age of being dragged down paths of religious oppression is the spirit of free-thinking. I mean, believe what you want to believe if it makes you happy, but I still don’t believe that mass governance via religious theories is wise, especially when the world is so fragile. The whole idea, just for example, of stickering school textbooks that try to explain the scientifically proven evolution of mankind with stickers that say ‘this is not necessarily the truth’ is entirely counter-productive. Anyway… we hope to hit the studio mid-May for a late-year release. See you all soon stateside. Peace, love, equality."

German thrashers KREATOR were forced to cancel their appearance at the Izmir Rock Festival in Turkey on Saturday, October 1.
Commented mainman Mille Petrozza: "We are very disapointed about the unacceptable conditions we had to face in Izmir last Saturday! The band was looking foreward to play this part of Turkey for the first time, but were not willing to risk our lives or the lives of our fans! We believe that the Izmir audience deserves a real KREATOR show, all or nothing, no fucking compromise! End of story!!!!!"
Pit Bender, KREATOR's tour manager, sent the following more detailed statement regarding the cancellation:
"Because of risk of danger, especially stage and lightrigg, we were not able at all to put on a show in Izmir. All efforts to make the organization change these technical conditions failed and in last consequence after several hours of discussion, we unfortunately had to make this decision.
1. The stage structure was way too unstable and wouldn't hold any pressure through an intense KREATOR show of two hours, especially with the great audience that we've always experienced in Turkey...
2. Light rig, stage: all four towers were not safe; any pressure, physically, could have made it come down.
3. The stage had no roof. Halfway through the show there would have been heavy rain, so the show would have to be stopped anyway, with the risk of electric shocks etc.
4. No efforts at all by the promoters to have proper and safe conditions for the audience and the band.
5. After all this and under these circumstances we finally had to come to this decision.
We feel very sorry for all of our disapointed fans out in Izmir, but hope to come back under better and especially safe circumstances."
