Blood Red Throne To Release New Album In October

Norwegian death metal veterans Blood Red Throne will release their 10th album, "Imperial Congregation," on October 8th via Nuclear Blast. Today, the band have released a lyric video for vicious new single "Itika." Stream and watch below.

Founding guitarist Daniel Olaisen says of the track:
"Itika was one of the first songs I wrote for this album and it's heavy as fuck. There's some real cool rhythm stuff going on and somewhat futuristic leads. Itika stands out on the album as a more fictional love song. Some necrophile dude, longing to get the sexy corpse, which keeps ignoring him. He wishes he was good enough, or dead enough, to get her in the end."

With over 25 years and 10 albums soon to be under their belt, Blood Red Throne are dedicated to the continual delivery of straight forward, exceptional death metal with Imperial Congregation being no exception. "This time around we’ve made something new and fresh in our sound. We felt it from the very first song that was written; this will take us to a whole different level in terms of arrangements, riffs, vocals... everything. We are super-excited to share this with our fans, and in cooperation with the greatest label ever," says Olaisen.

"Imperial Congregation" delivers quality, old school sound while reflecting in part upon the self righteous nature of humanity and its incessant need to destroy itself through power, ignorance and religion. "We live outside this system," explains Olaisen. "We don’t join in on the sheep mentality. Create your own possibilities, be responsible for your own misery or success!"

The haunting, organic album artwork was designed by the infamous Marcelo Vasco. The image displays a flock of old, religious men as they meet in secrecy to design the laws of lower society. "Many of our lyrics deal with our skepticism of religion, and of mankind in general. Be free or be dead," says Olaisen. "Two gigantic skeletons tower over the men of worship as they dictate human fate by candlelight." More...

Blood Red Throne Signs With Nuclear Blast

After nearly two and a half decades of death metal dominance with nine cataclysmic albums in their arsenal, Norway's veteran annihilators Blood Red Throne have officially joined the roster of Nuclear Blast!

Commenting on the signing, founding guitarist Daniel "Død" Olaisen states,

"Becoming a part of the NB family has been a huge goal for me for years. I always felt BRT deserved better after all these years and when I got to meet Gerardo Martinez (USA General Manager) and Oscar Martinez (Product Manager) when we toured the US 11 years ago, I kept in touch with them and tried to convince signing us even back then. Years went and albums were released and I never gave up. I knew we had a real masterpiece this time with the new album, and Gerado simply could not let it go this time. When he sent over the contract, both the band and especially myself were super excited and satisfied. Finally, after 10 years of trying! This band has so much potential and what better option than Nuclear Blast to team up with!" More...

70.000 Tons of Metal: Day 2

While most of the fans were sleeping – well let's say some of them - the "The Independence Of The Seas" metal-battleship ship had to make a 90 degrees course change, an evasive maneuver to calmer seas, in order to avoid sailing into a storm. The 37 knot (42 mph) wind also prevented the organization from erecting the decorative side-fills, left and right of the stage. Also the lighting rig was put at half mast, so that the stiff winds won't tear it down. At least the Pool stage was ready on time for Raven and all the other bands that would hit the Pool-Deck-Stage on Day 2.

To catch my favourite American thrash metal band from Newbury Park, CA Warbringer I had to get up somewhat early in the morning - meaning before 9 a.m. - to have enough time for a tasty breakfast at the Windjammers buffet. The buffet offered everything you could think of from hash-browns, scrambled/fried eggs, ham, cheese, cereals of all kinds, toast, vegetables, fruits, juice, regular coffee, decaffeinated coffee, tea etc. etc. Even soy-milk could be served for my vegan significant other.

Warbringer kick-started the day at the Royal Theater at 10:45 am:

Blood Red Throne Parts With Vocalist

Well that was quick, after parting ways with former vocalist Yngve "Bolt" Christiansen and recruiting, Martin Berger the Blood Red Throne status quo has been restored with the departure of Martin and return of Bolt. The band comments:

"OK people, life is full of sudden turns...and there's just been one again in the BRT camp. I don't want to go into details and you can speculate as much as you want, but the fact is that Martin is retiring from BRT.

"Many will jump to the conclusion that he...or we couldn't handle the negative feedback from some of you regarding the vocals. But the fact is that it's on a very personal level and Martin needs to sort things out in his life. Playing in all his bands and especially being challenged to front BRT is hard and impossible at this very moment.

"Therefore, we have mutually agreed that he will step out and let Bolt come back again. I know some fans will appreciate this and the rest of us are excited to have Bolt back. Bolt was going through extreme conditions and time pressure when we split with him, but things have changed for the better and he's more hungry and focused than ever to kick ass with us. More...

Blood Red Throne Signs With Candlelight

Blood Red Throne has officially inked a new record deal with Candlelight Records, and the label issued the following statement:

"Daniel 'Død' Olaisen started his musical career in the legendary Norwegian black metal band Satyricon in 1996 at just 19 years of age when he joined as a live guitarist.

"Since 1993 Død had been writing death metal riffs and in 1998 he started working on material for his own death metal band and with his friend Tchort (Emperor, Carpathian Forest), who also played bass in Satyricon, Blood Red Throne was officially a born.

"Shortly after, the young and talented bass player Erlend Caspersen was found and the search for a drummer and singer could start! After a while BRT got in touch with Freddy Bolsø; he was just the drummer they were looking for and the band could now begin rehearsing material.

"A demo was soon recorded with Ronnie Thorsen from Trail of Tears on vocals which became ‘Deathmix 2000’. A deal with Hammerheart Records was then signed.

"A debut album had to be recorded, but they still hadn't found a permanent singer. Just three weeks before entering studio, BRT asked long-time friend, Mr.Hustler to join the band, despite never having played in a band or done vocals ever before. But ‘Monument of Death’ became a fuckin' killer debut album, released in 2001! The limited edition included a package called 'The Suicide Kit', which not only contained the actual album, but also a printed razor blade and a poster. The kits were hand numbered in the band member's own blood!

"Espen 'Beist' Antonsen (The Sickening) replaced Freddy Bolsø on drums and the band recorded ‘Affiliated With The Suffering’ in 2002, playing a host of European festivals with it. Nothing lasts forever and Beist left the band when BRT were about to record their first album on Earache Records. With help from Bernt Moen they managed to record their darkest and most intense album, ‘Altered Genesis’, released in 2005. Soon after Vald replaced Mr. Hustler on vocals and Anders Haave became the new permanent drummer in time for a new European tour and the recording of fourth album, ‘Come Death.’ More...

Bloodstock Festival Reveals Full 2014 Lineup

The final bands have now been announced for this year's edition of the Bloodstock Festival, which takes place from August 7th - 10th (get ticket info and other details over here). The organizers of the festival comment:

"The ‘Metal 2 The Masses’ finals have rocked to a conclusion and some more lucky young bands are joining the New Blood stage at Catton Park next month, plus there's a few last additions for the Sophie and Jagermeister stages.

"Balls Deep bring their trad groove metal to the Sophie Lancaster stage. The Brit outfit have been busy honing their ‘Pro-Pain cut with Black Sabbath’ sound, coming on like the bastard sons of Pantera and classic heavy metal.

"Over on the Jagermeister stage, female-fronted power metallers Aceldama will be impressing allcomers with their high octane performance and audience interaction, while New Blood stage stoner rocker’s Resin will be offering an additional acoustic spin on their new material.

"Meanwhile, the New Blood stage welcomes the last clutch of winners from the last batch of M2TM roadshow finals. Goat Leaf bring their doom groove from the Sheffield heats, Oakhaart’s tech death noise hails from Gloucestershire, impressing judges at the Bristol event, Sinpathetic grace us with their death metal from the Preston night, Eradikator’s thrash metal won out in Birmingham, and lastly but not least, Cacodaemonic's unholy, neo-classical infused death metal represents Nottingham."
