Plunge deep into the currents of “Bathyalpelagic III: Disequillibrated” through the player below, or at the band’s official Metal Blade page where you’ll also find studio footage, pre-order info, and more.
Mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Witchcraft) at Fascination Street Studios in Örebrö, Sweden, "Pelagial" will be released as a double CD, which includes a vocal and an instrumental version of the album and is scheduled for release on April 26th/29th (Europe) and April 30th (North America/world) through Metal Blade Records.
In related news, The Ocean will return to North America as part of the 7th annual Summer Slaughter Tour, presented by Indie Merch Store, ESP and Guitar World. Metal Blade also comments: "A progressive audio voyage written, recorded, and to-be-performed-live as one single 53-minute piece of music, Pelagial was mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Witchcraft) at Fascination Street Studios in Orebro, Sweden, and firmly stands as The Ocean's deepest, most challenging entry to their winding catalog of sound exploration. 'Pelagial' will be released as a double CD, which includes both vocal and instrumental versions of the album, on April 26th/29th (Europe) and April 30th (North America/world) through Metal Blade Records."
Guitarist Robin Staps relates: "My original plan was to write a stepless musical progression, like a continuous color blending from white to black. But I soon realized that it could not be that linear. It needed to stay interesting after all, and this is something that is usually best achieved by employing unforeseeable elements. In the end, any good idea must be put into perspective by its musical impact."
And so the listener will experience swirls and vertical currents while listening to the album; short, unexpected faster passages in between, sudden tempo changes that will make them feel like they're rising again for a short bit -- but the general direction remains very clear: "You can feel from the beginning, it's going down. Deeper and deeper." More...

Ash Avildsen, founder of Summer Slaughter, comments on this year's edition of the tour: “It's year seven and I think 2013's line-up is the most exciting and diverse yet. Slaughter has never been a one dimensional experience for fans. This year is a true testament to that as we have an amazing mix of extreme music's influential icons and leaders of the new school. Let the underground unite!"
Greg Puciato (Dillinger Escape Plan vocalist) states: “We can't wait to get back on the road! We're launching a US tour in the spring, hitting Europe for some festivals and club shows, and then hitting several more cities with Summer Slaughter all summer long. We are absolutely amped. After being holed up in the studio for such a long time giving birth to One of Us is the Killer, we are all pent up and ready to share material new and old with our supporters doing what we love to do the most. Can't wait to see and either kiss or rip off each and every one of your faces on the road with Summer Slaughter and year round, everywhere.”
In anticipation of upcoming new full-length, "Pelagial," today The Ocean posts the second in a series of studio video diaries. Check it out below. Metal Blade Records also comments on the album:
"Possibly their deepest and most profoundly sophisticated composition to date, Pelagial is a progressive musical journey written, recorded and to-be-performed-live as one, single, 53-minute piece of music. Mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Witchcraft) at Fascination Street Studios in Orebro, Sweden, the offering will be released as a double CD, which includes both vocal and instrumental versions of the album, on April 26th/29th (Europe) and April 30th (North America/world) through Metal Blade Records.
"The concept of the album is made evident in its title. Listeners will be further submersed as they journey with the band, beginning at the surface of the ocean and plunging through all five pelagic depth zones: epipelagic, mesopelagic, bathyalpelagic, abyssopelagic, and hadopelagic. As one continuous piece of music, Pelagial's tracks, or episodes, are connected by interludes of underwater sounds and samples taken from old submarine movies, which give the album a claustrophobic 'Das Boot'-kind of atmosphere."
"There are track marks, and there are actual songs built into this larger structure, but the whole album is a journey rather than a number of loose tracks… some riffs appear in the first two minutes of the album and then reappear thirty minutes later," details guitarist Robin Staps. It's an experience that will reward repeated listens. More...

The Ocean has checked in with the following recap of recent Australian tour dates and update about upcoming live shows:
"Farewell for awhile.... our Australian tour has concluded last Sunday with a final blast in Perth. It's been great times here on the other side of the globe, thanks to all our fans for coming out and making the shows in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth so very enjoyable and worthwhile. Thanks also to our brothers in Lo! - If you are Australian, you will have another chance to see them live soon, don't miss out, these guys kick tremendous amounts of ass!
"We are looking back at a crazy year of more or less constant touring: the US tour with BTBAM last April/May, the UK tour with Earthtone 9 immediately afterwards and Friction Tour in Europe with Red Fang and Intronaut; then Summer Festivals; then China and from China straight back to the US for the Devin Townsend tour; back to Europe for a co-headlining run with Textures in December 2011, and finally a month in Russia in February / March this year, followed by Thailand and Australia…
"Yes, we are tired! And that's why we are now going to disappear from your radars for a while now. We will be spending another week in this last city on the planet and our side project Coilguns (Luc, Louis and Jona) are playing a final gig here tomorrow at Beat Nightclub in Perth.
"Robin just bought an old van and will be driving up the Australian West Coast during the next few weeks (if the van survives the trip) to write, film underwater footage for the visuals of our upcoming album and RELAX…
"When we get back, we will focus on finishing the 3xDVD which is due for a January 2013 release on Metal Blade and our new album, which is due for a late spring 2013 release.
"Stay tuned to Radio Ocean ladyboys, sweet dreams and don't let the bed bugs bite."

The Asymmetry Festival will be taking place from May 3rd - 5th in Poland, with full details available here. The following press release was issued about the fest:
"Asymmetry Festival is a unique event on the Central European scale. Successfully organized since four years, draws fans of the alternative music scene not only from Poland, but Germany, Czech, Slovakia, Hungary and many other neighbouring countries as well. The festival constantly develops its formula in continuous searches for new music genres – genres which defy labelling. The event will take place, for the first time, in a special location on the map of Wroclaw – the XIXc. building of the Browar Mieszczanski [Bourgeois Brewery], which since many years is an important cultural point of the city.
"Apart from the location, the assumptions and priorities in attitude towards the invited artists have changed as well. Among the 40 bands performing there, there is a numerous group of innovative projects, which are difficult to come across on any European festival stage. So side by side with the legendary Sleep, Killing Joke, Red Fang or Amenra, the guests of Asymmetry will also witness performances of all-star groups, created exclusively to in order to open the artistic floodgates of musical visions and the need to evolve.
"Let yourself be carried away by the fun. Come to Wroclaw and become witnesses of something huge."

Robin Staps offers the following update: "The Devin Townsend tour's been great so far, Devin is one of the nicest dudes I have ever met in metal and we've had some great times on the road with him and his gang. Not too many shows left now, this tour will finish up on October 29th in Vancouver, B.C. Since we were originally supposed to do another tour, our plane tickets are out of Boston, so we will drive our van back to the East Coast in early November and play some last minute shows on the way. We are also confirmed for the Cynic show in Toronto on November 10th!"
The Ocean has the following upcoming tour dates: More...
The Ocean, which previously reported that all upcoming North American tour plans were scrapped, has now announced that the band will be supporting The Devin Townsend Project.
Guitarist and founding member Robin Staps commented: "Obviously this totally fucking rules. I've been a big fan of Hevy Devy's varicolored rumblings for many years, and we're glad that this situation that we were facing after our initially planned US tour was blown off has turned from dire into bodacious now!"
Fans who have yet to see The Ocean live can catch a preview online now. The band has released a live video from a performance at this year's Summer Breeze festival in Germany. Watch the band performing "The Origin of God" below.

Robin Staps, founder and guitarist for German progressive metal act The Ocean, has posted the following update online announcing that the band has been forced to pull out of its upcoming United States tour.
"Today is a shit day. Our upcoming U.S. tour just fell apart. We had been confirmed for quite a while for a direct support slot on a good 6-weeks U.S. tour in October and November, and yesterday it was decided that this tour is now being postponed to late November into December. We are not available at that time. Our flights to the U.S. have already been booked for weeks, and we’ve been left high and dry again… somehow we’re just not lucky over there it seems!"
The Ocean will be hitting the road with Textures for a run of U.K. shows in November. Robin Staps from The Ocean commented on the shows: “We're looking forward to returning to UK shores with our old buddies from Textures for a number of headlining shows with full production and set time. This will be a good way to end our massive 4-months world tour in support of our Heliocentric and Anthropocentric double-album, which has lead us to North America and Europe this spring, and will continue through China and Russia this fall.”
Bart Hennephof, Textures guitar player, had the following to say about the tour: “Yes, finally it's time to do some shows again! After this long period in the studio we really want to get back on the road! It has been a while since we were in the UK, so get ready for some brutal live shows! With our friends from The Ocean and Aliases each night will be a party! We are back, stronger than ever!”
