Roo TV has issued the following report:
GODSMACK are soon to be releasing their latest album, "IV", which easily demonstrates the band's growth as songwriters. But after an initial writing block from lead singer Sully Erna, the rhythm section of Shannon Larkin (drums), Robbie Merrill (bass) and Tony Rombola (guitar) spent countless hours in the studio writing and re-writing tunes for the album. But with close to 40 songs written and only so much space on GODSMACK's "IV", Shannon, Robbie and Tony have taken a few leftover songs and formed ANOTHER ANIMAL. Roo TV caught up with drummer Shannon Larkin to talk about ANOTHER ANIMAL and how the band was extremely productive while Sully was away.
"It wasn't really productive for GODSMACK, but for Tony, Robbie and me, it was very productive, 'cause we found each other's niche in songwriting," Larkin explained. "In fact, so much so that even after Sully had… We had like 30 something songs, including Sully's songs and the songs that the band wrote together — it was 38 songs or something ridiculous like that. A bunch of music — a bunch of really good music. And you can only have so many songs on a record. So we had all this leftover music that we think is kick-ass. So we started this other band — me, Tony and Robbie — it's called ANOTHER ANIMAL."
Larkin went on to discuss adding his old bandmate from UGLY KID JOE, lead singer Whit Crane, and where he thought the music would be going with ANOTHER ANIMAL.
"So anyway, we called the band ANOTHER ANIMAL and got Whit Crane — he's my buddy from UGLY KID JOE — to sing," he said. "And he's awesome. The music is… it's like… There's definitely some [BLACK] SABBATH [influences], but with like [touches of] 'Angel Dust' FAITH NO MORE-era."
Although Larkin insisted ANOTHER ANIMAL was a side project from GODSMACK, the band does plan on getting in the studio to make a record in 2006. But with the GODSMACK tour certainly on the horizon, it seems ANOTHER ANIMAL might not make it to the stage until GODSMACK takes a break from the road.

Launch Radio Networks is reporting that GODSMACK frontman Sully Erna is currently revising the first draft of his autobiography, which will look at his life up until the point GODSMACK signed its major label recording contract. Erna said that the as-yet-untitled book "is about what it took to get from Point A to Point B. It's not the autobiography that's so cliche that talks about all the girls we (slept with) and how many drugs we've done and... who cares. This is a cooler story for me." Erna also said that the book will have "a lot of morals and lessons to be learned in it."
Erna plans to start shopping the book to potential publishers in the new year. The singer also said that GODSMACK will start writing by spring and hopes to have a new album out in the fall.
GODSMACK will perform on New Year's Eve at Hard Rock Live in Orlando, Florida.

Boston’s reformed metal heroes Meliah Rage is primed to make 2004 truly a landmark year for the band. Recently having their music featured on an episode of FOX TV’s hit series "The Shield," Meliah Rage is following the success with a brand new studio album, their first in over a decade. The nine-track sledgehammer of sonic vengeance "Barely Human" is slated for release on Screaming Ferret Wreckords in coordination with Escapi Music and Navarre Distribution on August 24th. A major North American tour will soon follow.
Guitarist Anthony Nichols, guitarist Jim Koury and bass guitarist Jesse Johnson, all original members, are joined by new vocalist Paul Souza and drummer Barry Spillberg (formerly of Wargasm) on "Barely Human." Original vocalist Mike Munro decided not to take part in the Meliah Rage reunion in order to focus on family. The tracklisting for this monumental release includes: Hate, Machine, Rigid, Invincible, Bloodbath, Barely Human, Hell Song, Ungodly, Motor Psycho, Wrong Place Right Time.
"Barely Human" was produced by Joe Moody and Nichols. Moody also recorded and mixed the album at Danger Multitrack in Providence, RI. All songs were written by Nichols and Souza except "The Wrong Place," which was written by Nichols, Souza and Clark Lush, and "Ungodly," which was written by Nichols, Souza and Spillberg. Nichols completed all musical arrangements and Souza wrote all lyrics for the album. Bob Mayo, formerly of Wargasm and a one-time Meliah Rage member, contributes special bass tracks on "Invincible."
A single for the title track “Barely Human,” was recently filmed as a video on the set of the upcoming horror film "God Of Vampires," and is currently available for download on the Screaming Ferret Wreckords website here. An MP3 of the track “Hate Machine” is available at this location.
As an added bonus, the initial pressing of "Barely Human" will include a bonus disc, the previously unreleased album "Unfinished Business," which features performances by Godsmack's Sully Erna on drums. Originally recorded in 1992, the tracks on "Unfinished Business" were intended as demos in order to secure a new record deal, upon the band’s departure from Epic Records. More...

Although Godsmack drummer Shannon Larkin recently told the Syracuse Post-Standard that the next album will be "really heavy," singer Sully Erna said it's too early to predict. "It's way too premature to tell," Erna told Launch Radio Networks. "We don't even have close to enough material to tell what direction it's going in. So it's too premature to say. We're still in baby stages of writing this new record."
Godsmack are currently on a break between stints as Metallica's regular opening act. The band will tentatively release a concert DVD, called "Changes," on September 14. The disc will reportedly focus on a live show filmed in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania earlier this year.
The new single from Godsmack's "The Other Side" EP is "Touche," a collaboration with Dropbox singer John Kosco and guitarist Lee Richards. Dropbox are the first band signed to Erna's own Realign Records.
Godsmack frontman Sully Erna has pulled out of his deal with the co-owners of Dorsia, the New York nightclub he went in on in 2003, according to MTV.com. Erna plans to sue his former business partners for improper management, sources close to the band said.
Taking a break between legs of the sold-out Metallica tour, Godsmack will resume its arena stint around the country on August 16. In a climate of what Billboard recently called "one of the worst concert seasons in years," the Metallica/Godsmack tour, according to Pollstar, is #8 among the Top 100 Tours so far in 2004.
Metallica's tour with Godsmack grossed around $22 million in the first half of 2004 to land at No. 7 on the list of the 10 most successful tours so far this year, according to Billboard. Metallica might have grossed even more had they not taken several breaks from the road to spend time with their families.
The top earner was David Bowie, whose A Reality Tour grossed $45.4 million over 82 shows, according to MTV.com. Since the figures reflect shows between November 19, 2003, and May 18, 2004, Bowie's numbers were not affected by last month's cancellation of the last 10 days of his European tour.
Taking a break between legs of the Metallica tour, Godsmack kicks off a sold-out headline tour of their own with Ill Nino and Dropbox. Godsmack's recent release of THE OTHER SIDE, their acoustic
record, debuted last week at #5 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. Dropbox, which is frontman Sully Erna's first signing to his new Universal imprint Realign Records, and opens all dates, is also featured on the new album with performance and co-writing credits for the song "Touche." Godsmack heads back out with Metallica, April 20 in Uniondale, NY.
Godsmack loyalists who download THE OTHER SIDE from iTunes, Napster and BuyMusic will receive Dropbox's 'Wishbone' as a bonus track. This digital value-add is the first such offer - bundling an album with a track that is already available for sale - for Universal Motown Records Group (UMRG).
Dropbox came together after Erna introduced Lee Richards, Godsmack's original guitarist, to frontman John Kosco, and they detonate April 13 with their self-titled debut, an explosive album of sprawling melodic rock delivered by a band with a deep reverence for the classics.

The new acoustic GODSMACK single, "Running Blind", has been made available for download in MP3 format at this location.
"Running Blind" comes off the group's all-acoustic EP, "The Other Side", due on March 16 through Republic/Universal Records. The set was originally intended to drop last fall, but the band decided to postpone its release "because 'Faceless' still has legs and we didn't want to interrupt the momentum," singer Sully Erna recently told MTV.com. "['The Other Side'] will keep GODSMACK in the public eye while we take some time off to write the fourth record." GODSMACK begin a tour with METALLICA on March 2 in Phoenix.
