Frontman Rigel Walshe of the New Zealand-based death/grind outfit DAWN OF AZAZEL has released the following statement on the passing of DISGORGE bassist Ben Marlin:
"I was truly saddened to hear the news of Ben Marlin's passing earlier today. We had the pleasure of touring through New Zealand, Australia, Thailand and Indonesia together with DISGORGE for three weeks back in March 06.
"From the moment I hopped in the van with Ben at Auckland Airport for the first show of our tour together, I was struck by his laid back, easy-going nature, humility and sly sense of humor, no matter what dramas would cross his path. The admiration stuck with me throughout the tour and beyond. I was even more impressed by the guy when I heard that all this was in spite of having endured some major personal dramas just before heading out on tour.
"I spoke with Ed from DISGORGE earlier today and he relayed to me that Ben passed away in peace and amongst friends and family. He introduced them to the DISGORGE Myspace page, and at the moment while they come to terms with his passing, they are finding some consolation in how respected and loved he and his music was, from the kind words and condolences of friends and fans.
"If you've ever been graced with Ben's company or enjoyed the music he made I encourage you to take a few moments to do the same.
"From all in DAWN OF AZAZEL, R.I.P., brother, you will be missed!"
Ben Marlin passed away on January 2, 2008 after nearly a year and a half of battling cancer.

California death-grind band DISGORGE has issued the following update:
"Word's got around that we're calling it quits, or Ricky's [Myers, drums] quitting the band… Fortunately for our fans' peace of mind is that none of it's true…. There's things going on, but don't chat forum yourselves into nostalgia thinking the worst!!! What is true is that Ben [Marlin, bass] has undergone treatments for cancer, and will be finished early February if the chemo zaps that shit out of him completely. Ben has been pretty positive about the docs' speculations, and we as his bandmates and friends are crossing our fingers for his speedy recovery…. Ricky HAS moved to Texas and IS playing in SARCOLYTIC with IMAGES OF VIOLENCE vokillist and DISGORGE album cover artist JonZig, but [with] 16 years as the sole founding member of DISGORGE, he is not letting go of that title at all whatsoever! The rest of us have all been taking care of some personal expenses from previous tours and other monetary-related issues within each band member so we can continue to keep doing what we do best whilst keeping a roof over our heads, food in our guts, and maintaining vehicles to get around….. We do expect the next CD to be finished recording by late this year/ early next year…. So, with that said, be patient, fans, and friends. Material is coming at a slow pace, mostly because of certain personal situations abroad DISGORGE, but we assure you that once our personal routines in numerous aspects come into play, then so will fitting a full focused uninterrupted practice and writing schedule. Thank you for your concerns and indefinite patience and support!!!" More...

Oakland’s Impaled are preparing to defile the south-western US. Supporting their latest release, "Death After Life," and performing with Disgorge and Blessing The Hogs, the band will be surreptitiously cavorting with local morticians and grave robbers beginning Sept. 23rd. Vocalist/guitarist Sean McGrath said of the tour, “ We’re super excited. No, wait, that's how I feel about ordering pizza and watching Dawn of the Dead. Of course we're all really itching to get out there and play with Blessing The Hogs and Disgorge, the only bands kind enough to agree to such a suicidal endeavor. As most people know, getting involved with us is nearly almost always a disaster of immense proportions. The southwest is one of the best areas of the country for metal and the fans are always totally insane. As most people know, we love the fans.”
