With the premiere of Vikings - season 2 just around the corner it is a great pleasure to announce that the Norse sounds of Wardruna will be present this season as well. In addition to the use of Wardruna songs, I'm [Einar] also taking part in the actual score for the series and I have been collaborating with the award winning Vikings composer Trevor Morris since the autumn of 2013. Sunday Old School: BMHM Part 3. Gorgoroth

Black metal, as we’ve seen over the past month, can be a highly controversial genre. Neither bands nor fans are afraid of facing backlash for their beliefs, name or artistic integrity and some have even had clashes with the law, often receiving prison sentences. It can be said that Mayhem has one of the most violent and shocking biographies in black metal, but if they were to be rivalled by anyone in this department, it would surely be by their fellow Norwegians, Gorgoroth. Gorgoroth was formed in 1992 by guitarist, Roger Tiegs, who took the stage name, "Infernus," who was inspired to start the band after making "a pact with the devil." He recruited a vocalist named Hat, a bassist called Kjettar and a drummer with the almost amusing moniker, Goat Pervertor and together they recorded the first Gorgoroth demo, "A Sorcery Written in Blood" in 1993, which helped gain them front page attention from, Firda, one of the major Norwegian newspapers, which was formed in the bands home county of Sogn og Fjordane.

The exposure almost certainly helped the band sign their first record contract soon afterwards, when they partnered with Embassy Productions to release their debut album, "Pentagram." The record received extra credibility for featuring Emperor member, Samoth handling the bass duties and was received quite well amongst both music critics and black metal fans. Shortly after the release of the album, drummer Goat Pervertor left the band and was replaced by Satyricon skinsman, Frost, who joined in time to perform with Gorgoroth at their very first live appearance, which was part of a four day black metal festival featuring such other bands as Enslaved, Marduk and Dark Funeral, who were also performing their first gig. This appearance was followed by further gigs with Enslaved before returning to the studio to record their sophomore album, "Antichrist," which was released once again to a mostly positive response. Banger Films To Release Extended Gaahl Interview

Continuing in their efforts to fund the production of the "Lost Episode" of the Metal Evolution series, Banger Films is offering fans for the first time ever an extended cut of director Sam Dunn's interview with Norwegian black metal vocalist Gaahl, past member of Gorgoroth and currently with God Seed.

Gaahl's interview has been cited as one of the most compelling and entertaining interviews Sam Dunn has ever conducted. The video will be delivered digitally when the crowd funding campaign wraps up in mid-December.

In 2004 Sam, Scot, and the Banger Films crew traveled to Bergen, Norway to interview Gaahl for their groundbreaking documentary "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey." According to Dunn, "as the crew started to set up cameras, lights, etc... Gaahl insisted that everyone move to the wine cellar where the room is lit only by candlelight." What resulted is one of the most memorable interviews in the history of metal documentaries.

Banger Films has issued a call to arms to the global metal community to help make the "Lost Episode" of the Metal Evolution series by means of a crowd funding campaign on IndieGoGo. For just $5.00 fans can pre-order the episode which will be delivered to them via secure e-mail link once the production is finished. There are other campaign perks available as well, such as the opportunity to have renowned artist Vince Locke design an exclusive custom tattoo and have Banger Films cover the ink costs. For more information and to find out how you can help make this episode happen visit this location.

Gorgoroth Parts Ways With Vocalist

Norwegian black metal veterans Gorgoroth have announced that vocalist, Pest, has been fired from the band with immediate effect after he refused to make the band his top priority. The band will still be honouring its touring comittments however. A message from the group reads as follows:

"Out of respect for and loyalty to Gorgoroth's audience and collaborators, Infernus (guitar) has kicked Pest out of the band, effective immediately. This after Pest informed the band that he would not be prioritizing doing the upcoming Latin American tour after all, just two weeks before the band was set to depart for Brazil.

"Infernus has decided that the tour will go on as planned, though, and Hoest of Taake will replace Pest as vocalist on the tour starting on September 7th.

Gorgoroth Comments On Cancelled European Shows

Infernus of Norwegian black metal act Gorgoroth has checked in with the following announcement about the band not embarking on an expected European tour this May:

"As many of you may have noticed, there has been no official statement from Gorgoroth confirming a European tour in May 2012, despite the fact that there have been several listings for such a tour on various non-band related websites, and there have even been tickets available for some of the supposed shows.

"Since January 2012 we have intended to go on a 21-24 concert May tour of the UK, Germany, Slovenia, Poland, Hungary, Austria, etc. And we have gone through a long process where ASP Concerts & Tourbooking (represented by Marcus Schreiber) were supposed to book this tour. It has been a nightmare process from day one, as Marcus Schreiber has shown a massive amount of both ill will and lack of ability in regards to arranging this in a professional and believable fashion.

"I have waited as long as I possibly could in the hopes that this project would be possible to go through with after all, but after today it was clear to me that we have no other choice but to make a statement where we confirm that there will be no European tour in May 2012. This is of course very regrettable for the band, for the local promoters who have got involved in this mess, and for all those who wanted to see us perform in May. For this I am sorry. It was a mistake ignoring other people's warnings about working with ASP and Marcus Schreiber. Both booking companies and other bands have warned us against this. We will never again work with him, and would not recommend anyone else to do so either.

"To our audience: Do NOT buy tickets for any Gorgoroth concert in May 2012. These concerts will not take place. If you have already done so, you should check with the local promoter or ticket vendor for a refund."

Re-recording Metal - For Better or for Worse?

Back in 2005, Dimmu Borgir was a band still basking in the unholy success of its latest outing “Death Cult Armageddon.” And yet instead of launching into a new opus for fans to consume the band members decided on a new approach; they would re-release an early and often praised album (“Stormblåst”) by completely re-recording it, updating the sound with modern production and slap “MMV” on the end. There had of course been prior examples of bands making this choice, but it was perhaps here that best truly crystallized the new era of metal re-recordings. No doubt you have heard of similar re-recordings in the same vein, perhaps most recently Gorgoroth’s “Under the Sign of Hell 2011” or Burzum’s “From the Depths of Darkness”? Perhaps not, but that’s what I aim to uncover for you here. More...

Former Gorgoroth Frontman To Appear In Action Film

The former lead vocalist of Gorgoroth and God Seed, Kristian Espedal, perhaps known better by his alias, "Gaahl," has been confirmed to appear in a new Norwegian action film entitled, "Flukt," (which means, "Escape" in English.)

Gaahl will portray the character Grim in the film, which is being directed by Roar Uthaug and is expected to be released in Norway in October 2012. The movie stars famed Norwegian actress Ingrid Bolsø Berdal in the role of Dagmar, the leader of a group of outlaws living in the Norwegian mountains in the 1300s.

More information on "Flukt" will be revealed as soon as it becomes available.

Metal Videos To Get You In The Halloween Mood 2

Somehow humanity managed to avoid the apocalypse yet again yesterday, but just because a zombie Armageddon or nuclear holocaust didn’t occur doesn’t mean anybody has to get out of the proper Halloween mood. We already took a tour through some of the most over-the-top and bombastic horror themed videos last week, so this time around we’ll head into a bit darker territory. Today let’s give the devil and all his children their proper due…

Opeth – “The Devil’s Orchard”

One of the best cuts off Opeth’s latest album “Heritage” and among the best clips in a history of less-than-stellar music videos from the Swedish titans, “The Devil’s Orchard” may be a tale of the devil ascending to rule the world while bringing madness and terror in his wake. Or it might be about a dude in bell bottoms who only listens to vinyl going on a crazy acid trip. But whatever, it’s got the vibe of an old school devil flick, and that’s exactly what we’re looking for.

Gorgoroth Delays New Album

Norwegian black metal veterans Gorgoroth has announced that the re-recorded edition of their 1996 album, "Under The Sign Of Hell," which is simply entitled, "Under The Sign Of Hell 2011," has had to have been delayed once again to financial problems. The record was initially scheduled to be released on August 29th but now faces an uncertain future. A statement from the band reads as follows:

"The master tapes were handed over to Regain by the band in April this year, and so it is of course very disappointing for the band that the label for the second time is not able to meet the set release date. Therefore, to avoid this happening again, no new release date will be given by the band until Regain can sort out their problems and provide a new date with 100% certainty."
