Following a six-year slumber, the Illinois-based enigmatic sound conjurors from Minsk are readying to unveil the otherworldly fruit of their new studio creation, "The Crash & The Draw."
Scattered between the sleepy city of Peoria and metropolis of Chicago and drawing inspiration from a remote Belarusian city that has been burned to the ground only to be rebuilt like a phoenix rising from its own ashes, Minsk has been cultivating sonic exploration and alchemical outpourings since 2002.
This new album was captured by the band alongside Sanford Parker at Earth Analog in Tolono, mixed by Parker and Minsk at Hypercube in Chicago, and mastered by Collin Jordan at The Boiler Room in Chicago with additional vocal tracking by Scott Evans at Antisleep Audio in Oakland, California and further tracking, editing, and mixing by Kevin Rendleman at Trash Rocket Audio and Aaron Austin at We Know Who You Are, both in Peoria. The record includes the striking cover creation of Orion Landau.
"The Crash & The Draw" will be released via Relapse Records in North America on April 7th, 2015, April 3rd, 2015 in Germany, Benelux and Finland and April 6th, 2015 in the UK and rest of the world. The new album's track listing is as follows:
1. To The Initiate
2. Within And Without
3. Onward Procession I. These Longest Of Days
4. Onward Procession II. The Soil Calls
5. Onward Procession III. The Blue Hour
6. Onward Procession IV. Return, The Heir
8. The Way Is Through
9. To You There Is No End
10. To The Garish Remembrance Of Failure
11. When The Walls Fell More...
Roadburn Festival is pleased to kick off the new year with a handful of new confirmations, plus the addition of a fifth stage. Tickets for the 20th edition of the festival are on sale now.
Minsk, Mount Salem, and Worm Ouroboros have been added to the line up at the 013 for Thursday, April 9th. Having previously performed at the 2009 edition of the festival, Minsk return to Roadburn, bringing an atmospheric, meditative ambience, offset by raging thrust. Look out for plenty of canyon-sized riffs, trippy sounding keyboards and enchanting vocals when Mount Salem conjurs a crushing windstorm to blow through Roadburn, whilst Worm Ouroboros will be spinning diaphanous webs of the most delicate chamber doom.
New Orleans heavyweights Goatwhore lead the charge, followed by Germany's Downfall of Gaia, noise-hardcore trio Cortez, and a dual-pronged sludge attack from both Fister and Moloch as the first bands announced for the intimate Cul de Sac venue.
As with the 2014 edition, Roadburn's fifth stage will be at Cul de Sac - a small music café located across from the 013 venue at 48 Heuvel, which is the street lined with bars and restaurants (also affectionately known as “Weirdo Canyon”). Four bands will perform at Cul de Sac on each day of the festival, Thursday - Sunday. Entry to these shows is sure to be in high demand, so attendees are advised to arrive early to secure access.
With regret, the festival's organizers have to announce that Lord Mantis will no longer be performing at Roadburn 2015. The band is unable to make it over to Europe due to personal reasons; as a result the performance at Roadburn and any shows around that will be cancelled. The vacant slot on the line up will be taken by Ohio sludge titans Fistula. More...

The Peoria, IL psychedelic metallers in Minsk have begun work on their new full-length record and first album in over five years.
The album is being recorded at Earth Analog studios outside of Champaign, IL throughout July/August and will be produced by long-time collaborator Sanford Parker. The as-of-yet titled album will see an early 2015 release via Relapse Records. Founding member Timothy Mead commented on the group’s rebirth:
"So much attention and care have gone into this process, this renewal. We knew that in order to really move Minsk forward in a meaningful way we would need to raise the bar all over again. This realization lit a fire within us to transcend what was. So many things had to fall into place to make it what we knew it needed to be. A new rhythm section, a second guitar for the first time since the early days of the band, additional vocalists, Sanford's contributions moving to the realm of synth/noise for this album. Lots of changes, to be sure, and yet the results will be unmistakably Minsk... just Minsk on a whole different level this time around. We cannot wait to share the fruits of these labors.” More...
Peoria's psychedelic metal act, Minsk, is celebrating the 10 year anniversary of the band's very first show and is officially ended a two-year hiatus. Minsk states:
“Ten years ago today, we unleashed our musical interpretation of what it means to be alive upon a curious crowd at a rented American Legion hall in East Peoria, Illinois. And since then, this journey has contained immeasurable and indefinable experiences which have shaped all of us to the core.
"Ten years later, we are grateful to be continuing on the path. A little less than two years ago we made an announcement that Minsk would be going on an extended hiatus. The hiatus had to happen, and the hiatus had to end. And now we find ourselves again focused and moving forward, not a re-formation but a continuation. More...

Psychedelic, high-volume blues rock ensemble U.S. CHRISTMAS will release their long-anticipated fifth full-length, "Run Thick In The Night," via Neurot Recordings on September 20, 2010. The disc was recorded by Sanford Parker at Fahrenheit Studio in Johnson City, Tennessee, mixed by Parker and USX members Nate Hall, Matt Johnson and Josh Holt at Semaphore Studios in Chicago, IL and mastered by Collin Jordan.
Said Hall of the upcoming release: "This record followed some difficult times for many of us, and I think you can hear that in RTITN. It is not as lyrically dark as ETLD, however it is a continuation of those elements. Run Thick In The Night is rooted in something outside of us, but is driven by a clear and persistent vision. It was necessary for USX to make this album, and it was something I absolutely had to do. I can't really explain it any better than to simply say that it is a very personal, spiritual album for me. ...When I hear the music now I see distinct real places that have, over time, woven into my imagination and become surreal."
"We recorded the entire 13-song album in one weekend in Tennessee, with Sanford Parker at the helm," he continues. "Our friend Travis Kammeyer helped out a lot with studio time and he added some really cool Hammond organ sounds. Minsk drummer Tony Wyioming also played hand drums on a few tracks. Our friend from North Carolina, Hush, did the original artwork, which I think really fits the mood perfectly. Josh Graham from Neurosis/A Storm Of Light did the layout work for us, and it was the perfect finishing touch. I am really proud of RTITN, and really proud of everyone in USX."
As a precursor to the release, the band will embark on three North Carolina shows with fellow NC doom trio BLACK SKIES. In November, the band will play "Run Thick In The Night" in its entirety at The Hideaway in Johnson City, Tennessee.
