Latest Deicide News
Below is our complete Deicide news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
Contrary to reports from the Portuguese date of Deicide's European tour, Deicide have not cancelled the rest of the trek but have instead postponed part of the tour in order to accodmodate drummer Steve Asheim, whose father has just died. The group's booking agent, Adam Elfin of First Contact Agency, has sent BLABBERMOUTH.NET the following statement regarding the situation:
"At 3am after the Madrid show, the tour discovered that (Deicide's drummer) Steve Asheim's father had died. Despite that the band played the show last night in Porto. However, they have flown back to the States today [Saturday, Nov. 6], to allow Steve to be with his family and make the necessary arrangements at this most difficult of times. Therefore, due to completely unforeseen and obviously unavoidable circumstances, Deicide are postponing PART of the current tour.
"Both Steve and the rest of the band are determined to not let the promoters, venues and fans down, and therefore to continue the tour as soon as circumstances will allow and Steve feels comfortable to return to gigging. To that end we are looking at moving some of the shows from the beginning of the tour, to the end of the tour. These dates will remain where they are: More...
Deicide have cancelled the remaining dates on their European headlining tour due to a "family crisis" (believed to be the death of drummer Steve Asheim's father). The group's last live appearance took place on Friday, November 5 at at the Hard Club in Porto, Portugal, where the band reportedly performed for less than 45 minutes. Joining founding members Asheim and Glen Benton (bass/vocals) in the group's touring lineup were guitarists Jack Owen (Adrift, ex-Cannibal Corpse) and Dave Suzuki (Vital Remains). No further information is currently available.
Legendary Swedish death metallers Grave are currently working on a European tour, which is scheduled to start in early January 2005. Exact cities and dates will be announced soon.
As previously reported, Grave will be supporting Deicide at the Stockholm stop of their European tour on November 16 at Mondo (Club Aggression). Other bands appearing on the bill are Arkhon Infaustus and Relevant Few. Grave have also been confirmed for the sixth edition of the 2000 Decibel festival, set to take place on May 21, 2005 at Valhall in Bengtsfors, Sweden (180 kilometres north of Gothenburg).
Grave's latest album, "Fiendish Regression", was released in August through Century Media Records. The group's sixth full-length effort was recorded and mixed at Abyss studio with producers Tommy and Peter Tägtgren. 11 tracks were recorded for the album, including nine brand new songs, a cover version of the Saint Vitus classic "Burial At Sea" and a re-recording of a old Grave song "Autopsied", which was originally written and recorded for promotion in 1989.
Cannibal Corpse guitarist Jack Owen has been brought in by Deicide for their upcoming UK/European shows. He'll temporarily replace Brian Hoffman, who can't do the tour for 'unavoidable personal reasons'.
On the eve of their forthcoming European tour, DEICIDE have been forced to rearrange the first three dates whilst last minute stand-in Jack Owen (formerly of CANNIBAL CORPSE) gets up to speed with the formidable DEICIDE back catalogue in order to fill in on live guitar duties. Showing true death metal solidarity, Jack has stepped up to the plate to cover for long term guitarist Brian Hoffman who is unable to play on the tour for unavoidable personal reasons. DEICIDE's first European show featuring Jack is now at Havana in Toulouse on Tuesday, November 2.
Fans need not be disappointed, because the three affected shows, in Hassalt, Haarlem and Paris, have all been rescheduled for the end of the tour, which will now take shape as follows. Original tickets are of course valid for the rescheduled dates.

Jungle Rot's latest CD, "Fueled by Hate," was released this summer through Olympic/Century Media Records. The follow-up to 2001's "Dead and Buried" reportedly sees the band "staying with the formula of memorable songs and catchy groves while still having the heaviness to live up to [and] exceed the current requirements for extreme music."
KULT OV AZAZEL have issued the following annnouncement:
"It has been confirmed and sealed in blood; we will open for DEICIDE on September 16th at the Culture Room. So after 2+ years of silence we will once again storm Ft. Lauderdale with unholy vengeance and blasphemous hatred!! We'll be covering a good portion of material from '99 up to the last album, Oculus Infernum, which the legions of South Florida have yet had a proper introduction to. DEICIDE have re-signed with Earache Records for a worldwide two-album deal. After witnessing Earache's results with "Scars Of The Crucifix", the band have decided to extend their relationship with the label for two more albums.
Since DEICIDE originally signed with Earache in 2003 for "Scars Of The Crucifix", the band and the label have made great strides together. In its first week out, "Scars Of The Crucifix" debuted at No. 18 on Billboard's Independent Albums Chart and No. 24 on Billboard's Heatseekers Chart in the U.S., hitting both charts higher than any other metal band. In 2004, "Scars" has sold more copies worldwide than any other Earache release this year. Earache commissioned DEICIDE's first-ever video, for the title track off "Scars", and saw to it that it aired on MTV2, Fuse, Kerrang TV, and Scuzz TV.
Earache's Al Dawson had this to say about the re-signing: "DEICIDE are a great band who have stood the test of time. They're super cool guys and we're psyched to continue working with them."
DEICIDE's Brian Hoffman declared: "I am very happy to be on the best death metal label there is."
DEICIDE frontman Glen Benton and legendary tattoo artist Paul Booth — two of the most blasphemous, controversial pillars of the metal scene today — will go head-to-head in a live interview on Sirius Satellite Radio this Friday night (March 26) at 10:00 p.m. EST.
Booth, a world-renowned tattoo master dubbed "The New King of Rock Tattoo" by Rolling Stone magazine, hosts his own weekly show on Sirius, entitled "Beneath the Needle: Tattoo Radio with Paul Booth". Booth also recently leant his artistic talents to DEICIDE for the cover art of their Earache debut, "Scars Of The Crucifix".
"Beneath the Needle: Tattoo Radio with Paul Booth" features phone calls and special appearances by authorities in both the tattoo and metal music demographics. Anyone can participate on the live show, airing Fridays at 10:00 p.m. EST on "Hard Attack" on Sirius Radio. Tattoo and metal stories as well as Tattoo trivia and calls from fans of two arts are aired weekly and on-location broadcast events, like a summer-long presence on Ozzfest 2004, are planned as well.
In other news, DEICIDE are the latest band confirmed for Dynamo Open Air, a one-day Dutch heavy metal festival scheduled to be held Saturday, June 5 in the Goffertpark in Nijmegen, Holland. Also scheduled to appear are headliners SLAYER, plus LIFE OF AGONY, DIMMU BORGIR, NIGHTWISH and CHILDREN OF BODOM. There will be a total of 14 bands appearing on two stages, "pretty much in the same set-up as in the year 2000 when Dynamo was held at the same location," according to a posting on the festival's official web site. Tickets are 50 euros. The gates will open at 12:00 p.m. (noon) and the first band goes on at 1:00 p.m.

As previously reported, the "Scars of the Crucifix" clip was shot in Nottingham, U.K. by acclaimed director Pete Bridgewater (THE HAUNTED, DECEMBER). It marks the first time in DEICIDE's 15-year-existence that they have filmed a promotional video for one of their songs.
