Heavy metal singing legend, Bruce Dickinson, is confirmed to perform at the Buddy Rich 25th anniversary memorial concert on Monday April 2nd 2012 at the London Palladium. He will be singing while fellow heavy rock legend, Ian Paice of Deep Purple, plays drums alongside the full Buddy Rich Orchestra. The following press release was issued about the event:
"Bruce Dickinson, of multi-award-winning British heavy metal band Iron Maiden, has become one of the most acclaimed heavy metal vocalists, regularly appearing at the top of lists of the greatest singers/front men of all time. Deep Purple’s 'In Rock' was the first album he ever bought, so hearing him sing with the drumming legend of the very band that influenced his unique style will be a treat indeed.
"Bruce joins singer extraordinaire, Tony Christie, and other drummers Dave Weckl, Gregg Bissonette, John Blackwell and Gregg Potter from the USA with Ginger Baker, Gavin Harrison, Clem Cattini and Elliott Henshaw from the UK. The show will be hosted by Buddy’s daughter, Cathy Rich, and comedian John Thomson of The Fast Show and Cold Feet fame. The annual memorial concert is taking place for the first time in the UK celebrating the music of the late great Buddy Rich. Previous sellout shows have taken place in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Boston.
"Tickets are available from the Box Office on 0844 412 4657 or online at this location, priced from £25 to £60. A poster for IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson's upcoming supernatural horror-thriller inspired by noted occultist Aleister Crowley called "Chemical Wedding" can be found at this location.
As previously reported, "Chemical Wedding" wrapped principal photography in September with Julian Doyle at the helm. The film stars Simon Callow as a reincarnation of Crowley, once dubbed "the most evil man in Britain." Callow's character, Haddo, is a shy, stuttering professor.
The film will be released in Britain and Ireland by Warner Bros. The studio also has a first-look option on other territories.
"My experience with stages is obviously IRON MAIDEN and that sort of stuff," Bruce said. "I've directed a few videos over the course of my rock 'n' roll past and I enjoyed them, I enjoyed directing videos. Writing movies a completely different thing. I wrote a couple of absurd comic novels — that came out as well, and you know, they did OK actually. So, writing is something that's always sort of interested me, so this seemed like a good opportunity to learn the process, really."
Dickinson is not the first rocker to be inspired by Crowley, who died in 1947. LED ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page was a big collector of Crowley's writings and even bought his Scottish estate. OZZY OSBOURNE, meanwhile, eulogized him in the song "Mr. Crowley".
Members AVENGED SEVENFOLD were IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson's guests on Friday, November 9 during Bruce's weekly BBC 6 Music radio show, aptly named "The Bruce Dickinson Friday Rock Show". Listen to a replay of the program here.
AVENGED SEVENFOLD guitarist Zacky Vengeance has issued a statement on the band's No. 4 debut on this week's Billboard album chart. Writing at the group's official web site, Vengeance commented, "It's kind of funny to wake up and see the words AVENGED SEVENFOLD at the No. 4 spot on the Billboard top 200. Right next to THE EAGLES and a BRITNEY/CARRIE UNDERWOOD threesome. I don't know about you, but it puts a smirk on my face just knowing that our fans tattooed it right on the foreheads of everyone who would quickly disregard the name AVENGED SEVENFOLD (like we aren't a fucking force to be reckoned with). So once again thank you from the bottom of our hearts."
Vengeance added, "I'll be honest with you: When I roll out of bed every morning my goal in life isn't to be alongside pop stars or actors and actresses or on the cover of the National Enquirer. It sure does feel good, though, to surprise all those people that don't even know what 'an A7X' is..."
AVENGED SEVENFOLD's self-titled fourth album sold 94,000 copies in its first week of release, nearly three times what its 2005 effort, "City of Evil", sold in its biggest week on the chart.
The group's current 30-date tour is slated to wrap up on December 16 in Seattle.
IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson will be joined on his BBC 6 Music Rock Show radio program by ICED EARTH on November 30th.
According to a recent update, Iced Earth plan to hit the USA in March/April of 2008, and will then be on the road worldwide for the rest of 2008, including stops in Australia, Canada, Japan, Russia, and other countries. Iced Earth's new CD, Framing Armageddon - Something Wicked Part I, is out now via SPV.
According to ThisIsNottingham.co.uk, IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson is preparing to embark on a marathon non-stop "cyber flight" around the world in seven days with a group of flight simulator enthusiasts.
Dickinson, who holds an airline pilot's licence, will be part of a 17-strong British flight team on a virtual round-the-globe adventure called Simfest.
Departing from a virtual Sydney International Airport in Australia on Sunday November 4, the journey will take the team seven days and seven nights.
Simfest is part of World-Flight, an annual event in which teams from around the world use home-built flight simulators to fly around the world and raise money for a chosen charity.
This year the British cyber pilot team is supporting Cancer Research UK.
Gary Oliver and Mark Hastings custom-built their own Boeing 777 flight simulator in Gary's garage, and are masterminding the British effort, and hope to raise £5,000 for the charity.
The pilots will fly under as many real-world rules and regulations as possible and will be guided by teams of virtual air traffic controllers using VATSIM, the free global virtual air traffic controller network.
Supporters of the mission can follow the flights on web cams and online tracking.
As previously reported, IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson has written a supernatural horror-thriller inspired by noted occultist Aleister Crowley. Chemical Wedding stars Simon Callow as a reincarnation of Crowley, once dubbed "the most evil man in Britain." Callow's character, Haddo, is a shy, stuttering professor.
The film, which wrapped principal photography Tuesday with Julian Doyle at the helm, will be released in Britain and Ireland by Warner Bros. The studio also has a first-look option on other territories.
Dickinson is not the first rocker to be inspired by Crowley, who died in 1947. LED ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page was a big collector of Crowley's writings and even bought his Scottish estate. OZZY OSBOURNE, meanwhile, eulogized him in the song 'Mr. Crowley'.
According to an IRON MAIDEN update, filming of the supernatural horror thriller Chemical Wedding is well underway. Based on an original screenplay by (singer) Bruce Dickinson, the film directed by Julian Doyle, veteran second unit director and editor of Terry Gilliam's Brazil, Time Bandits and Monty Python's The Life of Brian. Julian wrote and directed Maiden's partially animated promotional video 'Can I Play With Madness'.
Chemical Wedding stars Simon Callow as a reincarnation of Aleister Crowley, dubbed 'the most evil man in Britain.'
Crowley was a major Edwardian figure and a scandalous character. A Cambridge graduate, he became an infamous mystic and occult scholar and although he died in 1947, his books are still in print and he remains a major focus for the occult world. In the film, Crowley's spirit is re-animated by a superconductor mainframe, transforming the shy and stuttering Professor Haddo (Callow) into the charismatic but sexually depraved Crowley who wreaks havoc with the students and faculty of today's Cambridge campus. The cast will be rounded out with cameos from Dickinson and other Python regulars.
The film should be released sometime in 2008 with Bruce supervising the soundtrack.
KORN will be IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson's guests on Friday, September 14 during Bruce's weekly BBC 6 Music radio show, aptly named "The Bruce Dickinson Friday Rock Show". Listen to the program live via the Internet between 10:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. U.K. time at BBC.co.uk.
KORN's new, untitled album sold 123,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 2 on The Billboard chart. This is slightly more than half of the 221,000 first-week tally achieved by its predecessor, "See You on the Other Side", which landed at No. 3 back in December 2005.
KORN guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer recently told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette why the band chose not to continue working with veteran drummer Terry Bozzio, who played on the band's new album. Shaffer explained, "There were certain demands that he made. We weren't ready to meet those demands...He was a great guy and a phenomenal drummer. But the demands that he made were offensive. He wanted to be a member of the band, and that included ownership. We were like, 'What? You want to have 25 percent of everything?' We can't just sign away the rights to music on a whim."
