Below is our complete Scar Symmetry news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
We may be the Metalunderground.com Official Podcast - the operative word being “metal” - but that doesn't mean we’re above shamelessly promoting some “FedoraCore” when it suits our interests.
That’s right, boys and girls: this week we’re launching another ticket giveaway for Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale, FL. In addition to The Black Dahlia Murder, Suicide Silence and friends on Monday, October 13th, we invite you to check out Attila, Crown The Empire, and Like Moths To Flames on Friday, November 14th.
If interested, submit an email to email@example.com with one (or both) of the headlining bands in the subject heading, and your full name matching your ID in the email body. Listen in with bated breath as co-host Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) fills in the rest of the details.
Next, co-host Mike Smith (OverkillExposure) offers a gushing sneak-peek reaction to one of the year’s most anticipated metal albums: “The Singularity (Phase I - Neohumanity)” by Swedish death-prog powerhouse Scar Symmetry. He’s convinced it will monopolize many a year-end favorites list, and urges fans (Kevin included) who may have lost interest after the loss of former superhuman vocalist Christian Alvestam to reconsider. The latter incarnation of Scar Symmetry has truly come into its own. The first of a planned concept trilogy, “Neohumanity” drops in North America on Tuesday, October 14th.
Finally, in another round of his “Miami Metalhead Problems” saga, Kevin relates an epic personal concert misadventure involving the bands Erra and Reflections. We’ve all had them, we’ve all struggled and bled to make it to see our favorite bands, and every now and then, something unique and memorable occurs along the way that we wouldn’t have traded for all the well-timed, well-organized shows in the world.
Sweden's Scar Symmetry premiered a lyric video for the new track "Limits of Infinity." The song is the first taste of the band's upcoming new release "The Singularity (Phase I: Neohumanity)," the first in a new trilogy concept album series set for release on October 3rd (EU), October 6th (UK & France) and October 14th (US) via Nuclear Blast Records.
Per Nilsson comments: “I thought to myself... am I allowed to fuse death metal with AOR, and go extreme in both directions? I didn't ask for permission, I just went and did it, and I'm pretty excited to hear what people are gonna think about it.”
Henrik Ohlsson adds: "Limits to Infinity” unveils the malevolent plan of the elite, the hidden hand, and their discoveries regarding the secrets of the universe. The lyric elaborates on the decision makers' long-term plan to merge with machines and colonize other planets."
The track listing for "The Singularity (Phase I: Neohumanity)" is:
1. The Shape of Things to Come
3. Limits to Infinity
4. Cryonic Harvest
5. The Spiral Timeshift
6. Children of the Integrated Circuit
8. Technocalyptic Cybergeddon

Sweden's Scar Symmetry posted details on the band's upcoming new release "The Singularity (Phase I: Neohumanity)." The album is the first in a trilogy concept album series and is set for release on October 3rd (EU), October 6th (UK & France) and October 14th (US) via Nuclear Blast Records.
Guitarist/keyboardist/composer Per Nilsson explains how the idea came about: "Last year, Henrik [Ohlsson, drums] approached me with this super cool lyrical concept, that was so complex and vast in scope that we realized it was a story that couldn't be told in just one album. So, the decision was made: instead of writing a new album, we started working on a trilogy of albums - the most ambitious project of our career.
Nilsson goes on to explain the concept: "In the coming decades we will see the rise of artificial intelligence and transhumanism. Humanity will build artilects (artificial intellects) with mental capacities far above the human level of thought. By the year 2030, one of the world's biggest industries will be "artificial brains," used to control artilects that will be genuinely intelligent and useful. Millions of people will be prepared to spend more money on an artilect than on a car.
"So in about a decade there will be a thriving artificial brain industry, and nearly everyone will have an artilect which will be upgraded every two or three years. Each new artilect generation will be smarter and more useful than the previous generation, so that as the gap between the human intelligence level and the artificial intelligence level gets smaller every year, the species dominance debate will increase. There will be those who embrace the new technology and those who oppose it. There will also be those who add artilectual components to their own bodies, aiming to become artilect gods themselves.
"The rise of the artilects and cyborgs will be disruptive to human culture, creating alienation and hatred. Children infused with artilectual nanotechnology and components will become dead to their parents as they see their offspring turn into cyborgs because they are no longer human, but an artilect in human disguise. Those who oppose the cyborgs and artilects will have to strike early in the oncoming conflict or they will be overthrown by the superior artificial species.
"Add to this the advances in cryonics and cloning where minds can be downloaded and uploaded into eternal physical life and we see a very different reality emerge on earth.
"The singularity is here, technocalypse and cybergeddon emerges!" More...

Scar Symmetry is currently working on a new album and follow-up to "The Unseen Empire." The band has now checked in with the following update:
"Happy Friday the 13th! Guess what we're up to? We've just listened to all the songs from our next album, we're about midway through the recording sessions - the songs are turning out KILLER so far... Cheers'n'beers!"
Scar Symmetry reported that guitarist/keyboardist Jonas Kjellgren has split with the band due to conflicts with studio work and his work with other bands. The band will not replace the outgoing guitarist, but continue as a five piece.
Kjellgren appeared on all five of the band's studio albums, the latest of which is the 2011 Nuclear Blast release "The Unseen Empire." He also is the vocalist for Dellamorte and guitarist/vocalist for World Below.
The post on the band's Facebook Page reads: "It is with heavy hearts that we finally make it official: Jonas has decided to leave Scar Symmetry. Due to scheduling conflicts with his studio work and his other bands - Raubtier and Bourbon Boys - Jonas hasn't been able to perform live with Scar Symmetry for the past one and a half years, and from what he has told us, he will not be able to in the foreseeable future either.
"Back in 2004, Henrik and I got to know Jonas when recording with our previous band in his studio. We quickly became friends, and it was inevitable that soon enough, we would start talking about forming a new band together. It has been an amazing journey since, making the music of our dreams come to life on five albums, being picked up by the legendary Nuclear Blast Records and touring all over Europe and North America.
"We won't bring in an offical replacement, instead we'll continue as a 5-piece, sometimes bringing in a session guitar player for live shows - just as we effectively have been doing it since Jonas quit touring with us.
"This Friday, we'll perform at UK's Bloodstock festival which marks the end of the touring cycle for 'The Unseen Empire'. Next up is finalizing the songwriting for our next recording project, which will be our most ambititous yet!
"Thank you Jonas for the good times, the friendship and the amazing music, you will be missed!" More...
The organizers of the Bloodstock festival have checked in with the following announcement about confirming more bands for this year's edition:
"Here at Bloodstock HQ we are excited to announce a whole batch of new additions for all three stages. There’s only seven weeks left to the most metal weekend of the year!! Have you got your tickets yet?!
"Opening Friday’s main stage, and fresh off the back of the release of ‘IV’, their first album in ten years, are British post metallers, Earthzone 9. The band are stoked to find their way to Catton Park’s hallowed ground, commenting 'Earthtone 9 have never played Bloodstock, so we could not be more excited! It's one of our only gigs this year, so we are truly going to make the most of it. There may well be some drinking!' You can pick up a free download of their single, ‘Horizon’s End’ at this location.
"On Sunday’s Sophie Lancaster stage, Sacred Mother Tongue get added. Having received huge plaudits for their second album, ‘Out of the Darkness’, and live shows, the Northampton based band are building quite the name for themselves. Check out the video for ‘A Light Will Shine’, here. More...
There’s yet more thrash for Bloodstock with Northern Irish upstarts Gama Bomb landing an opening slot on the Ronnie James Dio mainstage. The band is looking forward to churning up the Catton Park turf, commenting:
“Bloodstock: it’s just like Woodstock, but for heavy metal types, and replacing the love and peace with chips and Carling! And Slayer! Our UK fans have been asking for this for years, and now the dream is real. So pack your tent, back up your arse with bananas and send the word – The G-Bomb are comin’ to Bloodstock!"
The band’s fourth album, "The Terror Tapes," will be released next Monday 22nd April on AFM Records. Check out the new video for "Terrorscope" right here.
British heavy metal standard bearers Beholder also step in to an early mainstage slot on Saturday. Frontman Simon Hall says “For Beholder to actually be asked to do this, without me dropping to my knees and pleading like a bitch is a true acknowledgment of where the band is right now. To be on the best Bloodstock line-up ever is something we’re not going to approach lightly, and on Saturday 10th August, let’s show the rest of the world how true British Metal fans rule all!!”
