Anglo-Chilean thrash masters CRIMINAL have revealed the cover artwork for their new album "White Hell," which can be viewed here. The piece was created by Chilean designer / tattoo artist / drummer Fran Muñoz.
"The original idea we were pursuing didn't really work out," comments vocalist/guitarist Anton Reisenegger, "so we basically decided to start from scratch. Then Fran approached us with this idea and we all really liked it, so we just went for it." More...
Chilean thrash mafia CRIMINAL has uploaded a brand new demo track to their MySpace page.
Comments CRIMINAL mastermind Anton Reisenegger (guitar/vocals): "The song in question is 'The Infidel,' and it's about – you probably guessed it – religious dogmas and intolerance, and the right to stand up for the fact that THERE IS NO GOD. Musically speaking, it's pretty straight-forward thrash/death with some obvious Slayer influences, but I feel it has enough of our own ideas to make it really original and 100% CRIMINAL!
"Anyways, this is just one little appetizer, as the material for the record is incredibly varied, ranging from really technical stuff with odd time signatures, to crushing groove monsters, to all-out death metal and everything in between, so be prepared for one hell of a rollercoaster ride! We might post another demo track within the coming weeks or months just to give you a broader idea of what the new album is going to sound like, but we don't want to give too much away either."
After doing some pre-production during the last couple of months, the band will begin tracking their sixth studio album this weekend for an early 2009 release through Massacre Records. The follow-up to 2005's acclaimed "Sicario" album will be released in a limited edition package including a bonus DVD.
Anglo-Chilean thrash masters CRIMINAL has announced their signing of a new recording deal with Germany's Massacre Records. The band will enter the studio in September to record its sixth studio album for an early 2009 release. The follow-up to 2005's “Sicario” will be released in a limited edition package including a bonus DVD.
Vocalist/guitarist Anton Reisenegger states: “It's great to be on a label like Massacre, that has carved its niche in today's overcrowded market through hard work and dedication. We are looking forward to a long and productive collaboration."
“I have nothing but good things to say about the staff at Metal Blade Europe,” the frontman comments on the band's former label, “but the company's priorities were clearly somewhere else, so it made no sense for us to continue working together. I honestly wish them all the
best for the future.”
Formed in the early 90s in Santiago de Chile by ex-Pentagram mastermind Reisenegger and guitar virtuoso Rodrigo Contreras, CRIMINAL were combining elements of thrash, hardcore and death metal long before the term “metalcore” was even thought of. The band enjoyed a meteoric rise to the forefront of the South American metal scene, including five-digit album sales, shows with the likes of Kreator, Sepultura and Slayer and a nomination for Best Rock Video at the MTV Latino Video Music Awards, but was faced with severe personal and business problems around the turn of the decade. Reisenegger and Contreras then decided to relocate to the UK, regrouping in a half-Chilean, half-British line-up. Since then, the band has played on major European festivals such as Wacken and Summer Breeze, as well as
support shows with bands such as Chimaira, Six Feet Under, Brujeria and Lamb of God.
Anglo-Chilean thrash masters CRIMINAL have uploaded a brand new EPK (Electronic Press Kit) to their YouTube channel. Directed by Roberto Fuentes, the video features live footage from the band's December 2007 performance at Teatro Novedades in Santiago de Chile, as well as an interview with frontman Anton Reisenegger.
Watch the EPK here.
In other news, CRIMINAL has lined up two headlining shows in the UK:
May 02 - Colchester - Arts Centre (w/ ELIMINATION, REBIRTH)
May 03 - Braintree – HOG's (w/ BRAINCHOKE) More...
Anton Reisenegger from Chilean metallers CRIMINAL has issued the following update:
"Last weekend was spent demoing four new songs. We are lucky that our new bass player Dan (Biggin) has got all the infrastructure to record on ProTools, so we took the gear to the rehearsal studio and recorded there.
We had a few technical problems though, so we didn't manage to finish everything, but what we hear so far is fucking brutal.
The songs in question (some are working titles):
'Invasion' - an epic intro gives way to a typical Criminal song, with many rhythm changes and some interesting guitar harmonies.
'Temptation' - very METAL song in 6/8, with a few PENTAGRAM influences (you know which Pentagram I mean).
'Sons Of Cain' - reminds me a bit of NEVERMORE, again with loads of rhythm changes and some ultra heavy slow parts.
'The Infidel' - 100% old school thrash/death, with a little SLAYER and a little Pentagram, and a middle-eight that will destroy everything when we play it live.
We are thinking about posting this last one on our MySpace page within the next few days, when the mix is done. We may even play it on the Chilean tour, who knows.
We'll keep you updated on the progress of the new material and, of course, when there is concrete news about the new album."
Anglo-Chilean thrash masters CRIMINAL have launched an official YouTube channel at this location. The band has uploaded all of its official video clips (nine in total). The channel will be updated periodically with live videos, footage from the band's early days, video messages for the fans, etc.
CRIMINAL is currently writing material for the follow-up to "Sicario", the band's critically acclaimed last album, which was released by Metal Blade Records in late 2005.
Anglo-Chilean thrashers Criminal are looking for a new bass player. Frontman Anton Reisenegger recently posted the following message on the band's MySpace page:
"It's unfortunately looking like Staff won't be able to continue in Criminal. We're quite bummed out because he's really grown to be a part of the band, and the last few shows we've played with him have probably been the best since Rod and I moved to Europe , but his work and other commitments don't allow him to dedicate enough time to touring and recording. He will still be doing the BRUJERIA show and might be helping out here and there after that, which we appreciate enormously (cheers mate!), but what it boils down to is we are again without a bassist. Which also means we are looking for one! So if you fulfil the following requirements, drop us a line! A South American background would be very welcome, but is not a must!”
- you must have good technique and stage presence
- you must have your own gear
- you must be able to rehearse in the Ipswich/Colchester area (that's in the UK!)
- you must have enough time to tour and record
- you must be into the CRIMINAL style
OK, looking forward to hearing from all you four and five stringers! And to everyone else, see you soon!

Austrian death/black metal act BELPHEGOR is currently looking for a new professional company/management to represent them for the release of their recently completed new album. Interested parties should contact the band at email@example.com.
Commented guitarist Sigurd: "All options are open at the moment. We just started [talking to] some labels which seem to be interested [in] releas[ing] the 9 monumental sound collages in October 2006."
Added guitarist/vocalist Helmuth: "BELPHEGOR's sound has never been so massive and fresh, and I'm more than sure that this album gained a new dimension for the band. This album will be a new step forward for BELPHEGOR. I spent all my energy the last year on this album. A lot of new elements and a higher level of composition and structure are added as well. Besides you will hear the most aggressive and rawest vocal work I’ve ever done. No bullshit when I say we will give you the strongest opus we've ever made. Be prepared!"
BELPHEGOR's sixth album was recorded at producer Andy Classen's Stage One studios in Germany. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Throne of Sacrilege", "Flammandus Et Contemtus", "Bluhtsturm Erotica" and "Belphegor – Hell's Ambassador".
BELPHEGOR's fifth full-length album, "The Goatreich - Fleshcult", was released in Europe in February 2005 via Napalm Records. The CD was recorded at Mastersound Studio in Fellbach, Germany and was the follow-up to 2003's "Lucifer Incestus".
BELPHEGOR recently returned from three triumphant shows in Mexico, where they were joined by British bassist Robin Eaglestone (ex-CRADLE OF FILTH, CRIMINAL). Eaglestone is expected to play with the band on all currently scheduled dates as well.
Anglo-Chilean thrashers CRIMINAL have announced Staff Glover as their new bass player, following the departure of original member Juan "Kato" Cueto. Glover had already stepped in during CRIMINAL's 2004 European tour with SIX FEET UNDER.
"It's a pity things didn’t work out with Kato, but his heart was obviously somewhere else," comments singer/guitarist Anton Reisenegger. "After recording 'Sicario' we did three shows in the U.K. with CHIMAIRA, which all went great, and everybody was very optimistic regarding CRIMINAL, but unfortunately Kato decided to return to Chile. It was a bad case of homesickness. It's great to have Staff in the band though," the frontman continues. "He’s a very solid player and a long-time friend of the band. We already had a great laugh on the SIX FEET UNDER tour. He's got this dark sense of humor which fits us perfectly. We are all in high spirits about our future as a band. Let's hope this line-up lasts for a bit longer!"
In other news, the readers of Terrorizer magazine voted CRIMINAL's latest output "Sicario" as the ninth best album of 2005.
CRIMINAL have lined up the following festival shows for the summer so far:
Jul. 22 - Urbach, GER - Zabbaduschder Festival
Aug. 25 - Gemünden, GER - Up From The Ground Festival
Former ENTWINED/CRIMINAL keyboardist Mark Royce has announced the formation of his new band COLD LAZARUS.
Commented Mark: "It is great to be back in a band after leaving CRIMINAL, and COLD LAZARUS play exactly the sort of music I love... heavy, catchy, full-on metal! After recording and touring with CRIMINAL, I was very selective about who I hooked up with, as following CRIMINAL is no small feat. The guys in the band are all excellent musicians and we are having a great time getting the songs ready for upcoming shows."
Pip Primmer - Lead Vocals
Mark Royce – Keyboards
Tom Brooks - Lead/Rhythm Guitar, Backing Vocals
Elle Torry - Lead/Rhythm Guitar
Xavier L Lett – Bass
Stevo - Drums
Further details and three tracks of audio are available for download at MySpace.com/coldlazarus.
