Chicago Open Air Day Three

Day 3: Sunday 7/17/2016

The best part of being Cuban/Irish is that I'm tan year round but still shrivel up like bacon when exposed to too much sunlight. I had the nastiest sunburn ever which even days later had my forehead covered in acne and the skin on my nose flaking off. And after looking at myself in the mirror, the first two words that came to mind were, “worth it.” As somebody too perpetually broke to wear sunscreen and already shelling out ungodly amounts of money just to stay fed and hydrated, a sunburn was a rather small price to pay to continue to have a really great time.

Since my arctic camo shorts were completely drenched in beer, I decided that now was the time to break out an even more egregious pair of camo shorts. Neon green and black are a pattern that can't blend into any environment which is why I bought them in the first place. Just the most outrageous thing I could possibly own... and now I had an excuse!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I missed the first three acts since I got there late. I kept waking up later each morning due to the sheer quantity of alcohol I was drinking as my car needed engine repairs and that meant that I wasn't driving. That fact that the gates opened earlier with each passing day didn't help either since Gemini Syndrome started playing a full half hour earlier than Through Fire did on Friday. So I ultimately have no opinions on Gemini Syndrome, Upon a Burning Body or We Came As Romans and I'm not going to fabricate a story just for the sake of comprehensiveness. There are some videos on Youtube and I watched them but I still lack anything resembling an opinion since bootlegs can never compare to the real thing. More...

Bullet For My Valentine Posts "Worthless" Video

U.K. metal band Bullet For My Valentine has kicked off “The British Invasion Tour” in support of recently released album "Venom." In celebration, the band has also premiered a new video for latest single “Worthless" - check it out below.

The new video for “Worthless” was directed by Stuart Birchall, who also recently helmed the videos for “Venom” and “You Want A Battle? (Here’s A War),” produced by Jamie Whymark for Kode Media and filmed at Elstree Studios in London, UK.

“The video itself is very direct, there's no narrative at all,” says singer/guitarist Matt Tuck. “We wanted to keep it super simple and as we went really deep in narrative on 'Battle' and 'Venom' we thought it would be nice to keep it more performance based. The song itself has become one of our favourites from Venom and from all the comments we get from you guys we know it's one of yours too. Enjoy." More...

Bullet For My Valentine Posts New Video

Hot on the release of new single, “You Want A Battle? (Here’s A War),” Bullet For My Valentine releases today a incendiary video for the track.

The song is featured on the band’s new album, "Vemon," which is due out on August 14th via RCA Records.

Directed and edited by Stuart Birchall (Bring Me The Horizon, Young Guns) and produced by Nathan Killham of Kode Media, “You Want A Battle? (Here’s A War)” is a narrative video that shines a light on domestic violence and abuse.

"I have always wanted to work with Bullet and I knew after talking with Matt [Tuck] that the style of storytelling I had in mind was very well suited to their own ideas,” says Birchall. “The band and label were very respectful of the creative process and allowed me to develop and refine concepts until we had the perfect fit. We were all keen on making a bold, dark statement about abuse that would resonate with a wide audience and complement this with a stylish performance. Everyone involved worked hard to bring the vision to life, it is always humbling to work with such dedicated cast and crew. As a filmmaker, being trusted and given creative freedom by the artist to interpret their message is where the most powerful work is done." More...

Bullet For My Valentine Reveals New Album Details

Bullet For My Valentine today unveils plans to release 5th studio album "Venom" on August 14th via RCA Records.

Check out first song "No Way Out" below. New album "Venom" was produced by Carl Bown and Colin Richardson (Slipknot, Machine Head, Trivium) at Metropolis Studio in London.

“It's pretty hard to sum up an entire record after spending so much time writing and recording it and all the blood, sweat and tears that have come with this one especially,” says frontman Matt Tuck. “It wasn't easy revisiting some very dark places to come up with lyrical content for this one, but once I knew where it was heading and I was comfortable with letting certain things out - all hell broke loose. It's easily the most aggressive record we've ever done and lyrically it will no doubt touch a nerve with a lot of people that listen to it. I cannot express enough how proud I am of it, and can't wait for everyone out there to hear it too. We've reinvented who we are and are ready to take on the world once more.”

Discussing the "No Way Out Track," Tuck adds: “To write this track I had to put myself into a very dark place, a place I hadn't been to for a while mentally because of how my life is now, compared to what it was before the band exploded. It is one of, if not the, heaviest tracks we've ever recorded musically and lyrically. I've lived with it for a while now but still every time I hear it, it gives me chills. Hold on tight it's a hell of a ride.”

In addition to the news of the upcoming record, Bullet For My Valentine has also announced the recruitment of fellow Welsh musician Jamie Mathias as the group's new bassist and backup vocalist. More...
