Amon Amarth To Headline Summer Breeze
The Summer Breeze festival organizers have issued the following announcement about confirming Amon Amarth as a headliner for the festival's 2012 edition:
"Behind the 24th door of our Advent Calendar there's none other than our favourite vikings AMON AMARTH, who are now confirmed as the second headliner for the 15th SUMMER BREEZE Open Air beside Subway To Sally.
"It's almost incredible the way our Swedish friends have enjoyed a continued rise to the top of the scene. Top-ten chart entries, headliner slots on all major festivals, sold-out tours, enthusiastic fans everywhere – by now Mr Johan Hegg and Co. have become real stars, but they still have their feet firmly planted on the ground, because they haven't forgotten where they started. And that's why they like to return to those places, one of them definitely being SUMMER BREEZE!
"What, it's Christmas already?!? How time flies. Our SUMMER BREEZE Advent Calendar had only just begun, and now it's all over again. We hope we were able to fulfill your wishes and expectations, and perhaps even surprise you with one or two of the confirmed bands.
"Here's a final overview of our Advent Calendar, which has been making you company for the last 24 days: More...

Report
Summer Slaughter at Chicago's House of Blues
The House of Blues once again had issues with their guest list coming in too late. And of course that meant that I missed the first three acts and therefore have absolutely nothing to say about Within the Ruins, Fleshgod Apocalypse or As Blood Runs Black. Despite me giving an otherwise positive review to the new Fleshgod Apocalypse album, I had to wait in the front foyer while they played.
Thankfully, I was able to get into the venue by the time that Oceano began playing. Even though I hate ripping on hometown bands, Adam Warren sounded like he was choking on something throughout the entire set. Outside of their vocalist sounding hoarse the entire time, there was nothing remarkable about Oceano. They're yet another generic deathcore band that does nothing to stand out. I seriously can’t tell the difference between them and about twenty other deathcore bands that I've heard.
After Oceano finished playing, I was thankfully treated to Powerglove, a video game music cover band. I'll be the first guy to admit that I'm a complete and utter nerd and I've been a gamer since the Sega Genesis, so I naturally loved this band. And given that there is a TON of video game music that needs a metal remix, I'm hoping to see Powerglove have a long and prosperous career. (They still need to cover Grabbag from Duke Nukem 3D.)
And even for non-gamers out there, Powerglove put on a VERY good show. Between having a contest to bring the band the head of a stuffed animal and tossing blow-up swords into the audience, they were clearly one of the best band's there in terms of sheer theatricality. I'm really looking forward to seeing this band do a longer set in the future. More...

Chimaira Comments On Departure Of Chris Spicuzza
Chimaira has posted the following statement online in response to keyboardist Chris Spicuzza leaving the band:
"As we know this news sucks… hopefully this cheers you up a little.
"There are definitely samples, keys, electronics, and all sorts of other wizardry on this record. we’ve spent the past 12 years creating the atmospheric side of chimaira, and we can’t imagine listening to us without those cool bits either. each album brought new noises and a vibe to accompany that particular record. nothing has changed in that regard. this has always been an evolution. while it may seem like the end of days, we see this as another chapter. chimaira developed our sound together with chris, and although he is gone, his spirit, class, and the foundation he helped lay, will always remain.
"You know us. we don’t drive our cars looking through the rearview mirror. never have, never will. keep the glasses half full, amigos. it makes for a much more interesting ride….and we’re just getting started. yes, rob is still in Chimaira. Six Feet Under is a side project. Maynard James Keenan sings for 3 bands. Rob plays guitar for 3. It’s all gravy. Thanks for your continuous support."
Bands Comment On Summer Slaughter Tour
Metal Blade Records heavyweights The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, and Six Feet Under are all confirmed to head out on the 5th annual Summer Slaughter Tour, presented by ESP Guitars and Indie Merch Store, which runs from July 21st through August 21st. Headlining the tour this summer is none other than Detroit MI's The Black Dahlia Murder with Knoxville, TN's Whitechapel co-headlining the bill. Rounding out what is sure to be one of the summer's heaviest tours is Darkest Hour, Six Feet Under, Dying Fetus, As Blood Runs Black, Oceano, Fleshgod Apocalypse, in addition to a special halftime performance by Powerglove.
What makes the 5th installment of Summer Slaughter so special is that the folks behind the tour are giving fans the opportunity to pick the band that will open the tour. Fans will get to pick from a list of 10 bands and place their vote on the tour's Facebook page here (deadline is April 11th).
Trevor Strnad of The Black Dahlia Murder commented, "After months in secrecy, it brings us great pleasure to finally reveal our headlining status for this year's Summer Slaughter festivities. It is a great honor to be asked to play with so many talented bands… we had a killer time last round and this year will be no exception. Beers bongs will be had, horns will fly, and legions of metal fans will be left devastated! Bring your daughter to the slaughter… or something."
"We are excited to be a part of this year's Summer Slaughter tour. The past two years we have done big outside festival summer tours so it will be awesome to make it more intimate this summer and do a tour like Summer Slaughter. In 2008 we opened Summer Slaughter and now just 3 years later we will be back playing alongside some great bands and friends. I couldn't think of a more perfect way to return to the Summer Slaughter tour!" adds Alex Wade of Whitechapel.
Chris Barnes of Six Feet Under commented, "We're honored to have the opportunity to share the stage this summer with the best of the best in metal today…all that attend the 5th annual Summer Slaughter Tour will be left six feet under!"

Chimaira Guitarist Comments On Six Feet Under
Chimaira guitarist Rob Arnold has posted the following statement online, following the announcement of his new duties with Six Feet Under.
"Its been an amazing honor and opportunity to have been called upon by one of my biggest idols, Chris Barnes!! Six Feet Under and the Barnes era Cannibal stuff had enormous effects on me as a young musician, and still do to this day. In 1996, I was a kid in the front row screaming my head off to Lycanthropy and Torn to the Bone… And now here I am, being asked to play the songs on stage with the band! Dreams do come true!!! And the stuff we’ve been writing absolutely RIPS! Watch out!!"
Chimaira Guitarist Joins Six Feet Under
Six Feet Under vocalist Chris Barnes has posted the following update online, announcing the addition of Chimaira's Rob Arnold to the group as its new rhythm guitarist.
"Just wanted to give you a Six Feet Under band update and let you all know that we would like to announce our good friend Rob Arnold will be joining Six Feet Under as second rhythm guitarist for upcoming touring duties, as well as collaborating on the new CD. I couldn't be happier about the new songs and lineup! Rob and myself have been collaborating on new songs along with the band's new drummer, Kevin Talley, for the past few months. We are all feeling really excited about the band's future, and the raw intensity of the songs that we have created together so far. This is the heaviest most exciting material that I've worked on since 'The Bleeding' [1994 Cannibal Corpse record], and I'm stoked that Rob will be helping out creating this CD with us! We've all known each other for a while and we're really looking forward to continue writing the new CD and future tours. We are committed to taking Six Feet Under to the next level of brutality!"
Six Feet Under Finds New Drummer
Chris Barnes, vocalist of the Florida-based death metal act Six Feet Under, has announced that the band has officially added Kevin Talley to the lineup. Kevin Talley is known for his work with Daath, Chimaira, and Misery Index. Chris Barnes commented on the addition by saying:
"I am 110 percent stoked to have Kevin [Talley] join Six Feet Under. He is undeniably one of the best, if not THE best drummer in death metal, and I'm proud to have him along for the ride!"
It was announced just several days ago that previous drummer Greg Gall and bassist Terry Butler had left the band.
Six Feet Under Parts With Bassist And Drummer
American death metal veterans Six Feet Under have confirmed they have parted ways with bass player Terry Butler and drummer Greg Gall. A message from the band's frontman Chris Barnes reads as follows:
"To the loyal fans of Six Feet Under. Our long time friends and band-mates, Terry Butler (bass) and Greg Gall (drums), have decided to move on and depart from SFU. Steve Swanson (guitar) and myself are grateful for all the fun times we've shared together through the years, and wish them the best of luck in their musical endeavors.
"Just to fill you all in, Steve and myself are very excited about the future of the SFU, and I have been working hard on writing the new SFU material for the past four months with a new writing partner.
"I will make this guarantee and promise to all the fans of Six Feet Under; the new line up will be a death metal force to be dealt with, with the long awaited addition of a brutal as fuck drummer and riffs that will rip your face off, vocals ala 1993-1995...
"Thank you all for your continued support and devotion, see you soon!"
