Side projects can be a dangerous thing. Whilst they can provide a creative outlet for a band member, they can also bring about arguments regarding commitment and sometimes cost said musician his place in the first band. Many of these projects don't even go anywhere, but this was not the case of Six Feet Under, the group formed as a side project by then Cannibal Corpse vocalist, Chris Barnes. Six Feet Under started in 1993, when Barnes joined forces with Allen West, one of the founding members of Obituary, who also brought with him bass player, Terry Butler, formerly of Massacre and currently the bassist of Obituary. The lineup was rounded off by Butler's brother-in-law, Greg Gall and they soon embarked on their first shows, performing a set mostly comprised of cover songs. They took themselves a little more seriously the next year, writing more original material and easily securing themselves a record deal with Metal Blade, thanks in part to Barnes already being signed to the label with Cannibal Corpse. The band teamed up with such respected names as Brian Slagel and Scott Burns to complete their debut album, "Haunted," which was released on September 1st 1995 to good reviews from critics who were impressed with the distinctive vocals and the group not being reliant on guitar solos to complete their songs.
A year later, in 1996, Barnes was fired from Cannibal Corpse while they were recording a new album, "Created To Kill," which was eventually released under the name, "Vile." His attention could now be paid fully to Six Feet Under, who released a new EP, "Alive and Dead" before the year was out, which featured two new songs, four live tracks and a cover of the Judas Priest song, "Grinder." Just less than a year later, they released their sophomore album, "Warpath," which is considered one of their best works to date and was notable for taking a few risks, such as the inclusion of clean vocals and broader lyrical themes, such as smoking marijuana, as well as the usual blood and guts stories associated with death metal. "Warpath" was also the last album to include Allen West, who parted company with the band and was replaced by another Massacre alumni, Steve Swanson. More...

Six Feet Under has parted ways with drummer Kevin Talley. However, the transition for the new drummer will be near-seemless, as Marco Pitruzzella has officially joined the ranks of the band and will make his debut appearance this Saturday in Memphis, TN at the Scion Rock Fest. For info on the fest, including the full line-up, visit this location.
Chris Barnes discusses the lineup change: "I'm proud to announce a new addition to the ranks of Six Feet Under. Replacing drummer Kevin Talley is our new friend and cohort, Marco Pitruzzella. Marco has worked with Jeff Hughell in their former band, Brain Drill, and is such an amazing talented and great guy. I'm very excited having him in the band and can't wait to take the stage with Marco this Saturday in Memphis for Scion Rock Fest!
"It was good working with Kevin Talley for the past couple of years, but we are very ready and extremely focused on moving the band forward with a new, more stable and permanent lineup for writing as well as touring. Be prepared to be shredded! See you all soon!"

I personally find the idea of putting people on a pedestal to be incredibly naive and childish. At some point, whoever you idolize as being perfect will turn out to have some sort of horrible character flaws that you'll never be able to forgive. People are human, and with that comes not being perfect. Hence why I'm able to say that I don't mind somebody's offstage behavior as much as I do the actual music. In the same way, I don't care about lyrical themes that embrace politics that I disagree with. More...
Six Feet Under is currently preparing for a next round of tour dates in support of "Unborn." As previously announced, Decrepit Birth and Cannabis Corpse will be joining Six Feet Under on this tour. Additionally, up-and-coming act Dealey Plaza will open the show.
The tour begins July 10th in Houston, TX and VIP bundles are available now at this location. Bundles include: ticket to the show, Six Feet Under shirt, limited "Hell In July" poster, and a back stage pre-show hang with Chris Barnes.
Six Feet Under founder and vocalist Chris Barnes comments: "Hello, all you sick fucks! Just wanted to say hello and let all you maniacs know what we've got planned for this year. Six Feet Under is about to take to the road once again, starting this month on May 19 in Guadalajara, Mexico for the Heaven and Hell festival. We are very excited to be playing with such greats as Motorhead and Anthrax - two of my all time favorite bands! Also coming up, June 1st we will be in Memphis, TN for the Scion festival with Whitechapel and a whole bunch of other awesome bands, so that's going to be insane, as well. Then, in the middle of June, we will be heading over to Europe for three festival dates. One of which I'm really excited and can't wait to take the stage on: Hellfest in France!! Looking forward to it big time - that date is on June 23, which leads me up to the month of July with our headlining USA tour - Hell in July! Summer tours in the US are always a blast, and this one is set up for sheer devastation with opening bands Decrepit Birth, Cannabis Corpse and Dealey Plaza!
"I would just like to take this time to say and send a personal message to those in Denver, CO as well as Seattle, WA: to Whom it may concern, you may want to stock up and/or possibly grow twice as much cannabis as you have been… because once SFU and Cannabis Corpse roll into those towns, the sheer magnitude of smoking may - 1. Drain the cannabis supply of those two said cities or 2. Possibly cause low cloud formations. Fog lights should be used on all vehicles to and from the concert. More...

The organizers of the Barge To Hell cruise have issued the following announcement about confirming Exodus, Seita, Havok, and Necronomicon:
"Let the world-wide EXODUS for BARGE TO HELL begin! Paying tribute to their global customer base, they've also added: SEITA from Brazil and The Netherlands, HAVOK from the USA, NECRONOMICON from Germany and HEADCRUSHER from Colombia!
"Barge To Hell's customer service team is working around the clock to get everything ready for those that are booked to perform online check-in. Booked passengers can expect to receive their online check-in invitation on Monday.

- The luxurious 'A Chorus Line' theater where they spare no expense to have the benches removed on the floor. Because at a Metal show, who actually wants assigned seating in front of the stage?
- The cozy 'Spectrum' that gives you the real club feeling.
- And their jewel: The open air stage on the pool deck. The biggest festival stage to sail the Oceans.
"You can also get all your memorabilia signed at the Meet & Greet sessions. Be part of their infamous Metal Karaoke and many other special activities with the Artists. And last, but not least: Don't forget that they have bars on board that never close! What are you waiting for? You might even need a vacation from this vacation when all is said and done."
