Below is our complete Suffocation news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
Long Island, NY-based extreme metal force Suffocation recently toured Europe in support of Nile, and now the band is returning to the other side of the pond again - but this time as the headliner.
The touring package will be completed by San Diego, CA-base death metal progressive grinders Cattle Decapitation as well as Miami, FL-based tech death force Abiotic.
Suffocation guitarist Terrance Hobbs states: "Suffocation are gearing up to head to Europe in March and bring forth the devastation one more time and this time we're bringing the unstoppable wrecking ball, Cattle Decapitation with us! This will be a Massive tour of speed, heaviness and straight chaos combined with devastation of a Nuclear Blast! This tour will be one for the die hard metal fanatics bar none... hope to see you there and witness the pure carnage unfold!" More...
Cattle Decapitation and Abiotic are due to come to Europe with Suffocation for “The Tyrants Of Death” tour in 2016.
This will be the first European tour for Cattle Decapitation in support of latest masterpiece “The Anthropocene Extinction.” Comments vocalist Travis Ryan: “We're happy to be doing another European tour with our good buddies Suffocation and our new friends Abiotic! Its been a while since we've been to Europe and we have an arsenal of new songs ready to pummel you with! See you soon Europa!”
Suffocation is just as excited and had this to say: “Suffocation is gearing up to head to Europe in February 2016 and bring forth the devastation one more time and this time we're bringing the unstoppable wrecking ball, Cattle Decapitation with us! This will be a MASSIVE tour of speed, heaviness and straight chaos combined with devastation of a Nuclear Blast! This tour will be one for the die hard metal fanatics bar none. Hope to see you there and witness the pure carnage unfold!” More...
Day two started at the Holiday Inn. The 7th floor of the Holiday Inn hosted the film portion of the festival. There were also a number of vendors associated with the films there. Angelcorpse guitarist Gene Palubicki was one of the vendors on hand. He starred in the movie “American Guinea Pig: Bloodshock,” the second film in the “American Guinea Pig” series. This film had a major buzz about it. Many fans I talked to expressed a desire to see this film and according to Palubicki the Zombie Room wasn’t big enough to accommodate all interested parties. The event featured a Q & A with director Marcus Koch and producer/screenwriter Steven Biro and was moderated by Bill Moseley (“Texas Chainsaw Massacre II, House of 1,000 Corpses).
The band schedule for both the Aztec and Korova was different than the night before when Korova started early in the day, ended, the Aztec started and then the Korova hosted the last band at 12:30 AM. Today, the Korova started at 6 PM and ran concurrently with the Aztec. Austin d-beat punkers Krigblast opened Korova. More punkisms came via Chicago, Illinois’ Kill It Again and many fans gushed at seeing veterans, Fang. The Aztec hosted a day filled with punk rock, too, starting with Poison Idea, Dropdead and Negative Approach. And the grindcore of Agoraphobic Nosebleed and Cripple Bastards also fit into the punk’s gnarled family tree. More...

This November, Philip H. Anselmo's Housecore Horror Fest will celebrate its third year of audio and visual bedlam. Set to commence in San Antonio, Texas at the Aztec Theater (201 E Commerce St.) on November 13th -15th, 2015, the horror-themed film and metal gala promises to be louder, gorier and more bludgeoning than ever before boasting two film-screening rooms, multiple vendors, special artist signings throughout the weekend and what's morphing into one of the most debilitating lineups of the year!
Already stacked with a crushing bill that includes Agoraphobic Nosebleed performing their second show ever, Corrosion Of Conformity featuring Pepper Keenan, Claudio Simonetti's Goblin doing a live score of George Romero's Dawn Of The Dead, Superjoint, Eyehategod, Nails, Crowbar, Dropdead, Autopsy, Poison Idea, and so many others, the gatekeepers of Housecore Horror Fest today welcome the additions of thrash metal icons, Exodus, veteran death metal legion, Incantation, apocalyptic hardcore punk unit, Gasmiasma, atmospheric drone doom duo, Muscle And Marrow and theatrical heavy metal legend King Diamond whose performance will feature 1987 quintessential second full-length, Abigail, in its harrowing entirety! As an added bonus, Gwar's fabled Sleazy P. Martini will also be attending the annual gathering as a special guest!
And the awesome won't stop there. The fest has expanded the range of its grotesqueries, with a second stage located just steps away from the Aztec Theater. The Korova, at 107 E. Martin St. in San Antonio, will play host to even MORE bands throughout the weekend. Stay tuned for additional band announcements for The Korova in the coming weeks.
Comments Anselmo: "I am beyond excited to announce that the mighty King Diamond will be attacking the house on Friday the 13th at the Housecore Horror Festival. All hail the King."
Adds Maryland Deathfest co-founder Ryan Taylor, who's shaping this year's HHF lineup alongside Anselmo: "It's been a lot of fun piecing together this lineup with Philip. It's gonna be a wild one, so get your tickets while you still can!" More...
Italian prog-rock legends Goblin are set to perform the entire score to "Dawn of the Dead" at Housecore Horror Film Festival. Metal frontman and Housecore Records founder, Philip H. Anselmo, is bringing his horror-themed film and metal festival back for a third year. After a great ride in Austin, the festival will kick off in San Antonio, Texas at the Aztec Theater on November 13th -15th, 2015.
The decision to return was driven by the desire to honor his friend and festival co-founder, Corey Mitchell, who tragically passed away last October.
Mitchell was the driving creative force behind the festival's success, and Anselmo believes there is no better way to pay tribute to his friend than to carry on for a third year. "I've got a great team in place to help make this what Corey and I wanted it to be," he says. "There are a lot of mixed emotions here because no one can replace him. But, we know he would want this to continue and so that's what we're going to do. We miss him and think about him every day."
Bands already confirmed to play are Suffocation, Autopsy, Cripple Bastards, Nails, SYk & Dalila Kayros, YOB, Eyehategod, Child Bite, Warbeast and many more to be announced soon. Maryland Deathfest co-founder Ryan Taylor will be booking bands this year and will help Anselmo craft a musical lineup that would make Mitchell proud.
In addition to showcasing the best in extreme metal, the festival will screen film gems from the personal vaults of both Anselmo and Mitchell. Horror filmmakers are encouraged to submit their films and winners will be selected in various categories and given the coveted Rot-Scar Award. "When Corey and I started this thing, it was important to us that we help independent filmmakers get their incredible work discovered," Anselmo continues. "Nothing has changed, in that respect."
Tickets to go on sale soon - stay tuned for additional announcements. More...
New York has a reputation worldwide for being hard as nails and producing tough guys, which is something that has been represented in their music throughout the decades. Hip hop is a well known contribution New York has made to music, but their punk, hardcore and metal legacy is certainly the stuff of legends as well, having produced such bands as The Ramones, Agnostic Front and Anthrax to name but a few. Another band who personified what their home was all about, particular in the vocalist's accent, was Long Island's own, Suffocation, probably one of New York's best known death metal bands along with Cannibal Corpse. Their music was unforgiving in its brutality and punished the ears of audiences throughout the nineties until the band split in 1998.
Luckily for fans of the group and the genre, Suffocation reunited in 2003 and a year later released the excellent album, "Souls to Deny." The record helped put them back on the metal map after five years away and in 2006, they solidified that the comeback was for real by releasing a self-titled album. Like their previous efforts, the album was a display of sonic violence and extremes, earning good reviews in nearly every publication and delighting fans with a re-recording of the old track, "Prelude to Repulsion" from their album, "Breeding the Spawn." It also produced two music videos, one for "Abomination Reborn" and one for today's featured song, "Bind Torture Kill."
The song was inspired by the serial killer, Dennis Rader, also known as the "BTK strangler" after his infamous signature. This horrifying subject is captured perfectly in the song, which has a pummeling intro before getting into the grizzly business. Like the majority of Suffocation's catalogue, it's a relentless bulldozer of a song, encapsulating the claustrophobic fear of a victim of violence and aggression that comes with a mindset hellbent on causing destruction. It was a highlight on a solid album and was popular enough that even the History Channel, who then actually made programmes about history, took notice and featured the song in an advertisement for their series on the dark ages. It's an excellent slab of brutal death metal that put any worries about Suffocation not living up to their own blood soaked legacy to rest. More...
The death metal masters from Suffocation and Decapitated are teaming up for a co-headlining showdown in Australia and New Zealand. Nuclear Blast Records comments:
"Without any argument, New York’s Suffocation are known for their style of fusing aspects of technical modern metal with the percussive, brutal attack of classic death metal which prove they proudly stand well above the myriads of metal bands in the world today.
"Since their inception way back in 1988, Suffocation have been terrorizing stages across the globe for 25+ years with a backlog of explosively brutal cuts such as Pierced From Within, As Grace Descends, Thrones Of Blood, Infecting The Crypts, Breeding The Spawn and Effigy Of The Forgotten that violently bludgeon your senses while making you bang your head to the uber-groove with technical and precise guitar wizardry melded together with a bone crushing rhythm section and savagely fierce vocal assault, the band proves with every show why they are as well respected as they are. Just listen to their latest album Pinnacle Of Bedlam and you will see what we mean."
