Kataklysm Confirmed For Bloodstock Open Air

Canadian death metallers KATAKLYSM have been confirmed for this year's Bloodstock Open Air festival, set to take place August 15-17, 2008 at Catton Hall in Derbyshire, England. The festival billing is now shaping up as follows:

KATAKLYSM will perform at the Rebel Radio "Birthday Bash" alongside TROUBLE on January 27 at The House of Blues in Chicago, Illinois. More bands will be announced soon.

KATAKLYSM has recruited producer Jason Suecof (CHIMAIRA, TRIVIUM, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER) to mix the band's new album beginning in early February. "Prevail" will feature several guest appearances to be announced at a later date. The album is scheduled for a late spring/early summer release via Nuclear Blast Records.

KATAKLYSM recently decided to "immortalize" the character that was featured on the cover of their most recent album, "In the Arms of Devastation", and have him re-appear as the main character — dubbed "The Heartbeast" — on their next offering, "Prevail".

Commented vocalist Maurizio Iacono: "We had so [much] killer feedback on the artwork but especially on the character that we decided to keep him as the band's fifth band member... kinda like IRON MAIDEN did with 'Eddie.' We have the perfect concept for the next album art... it will be bad-ass!"

Primal Fear Bassist Reflects On 2007

PRIMAL FEAR bassist/SINNER mainman Mat Sinner has issued the following update:

"It's the end of 2007 and we [PRIMAL FEAR] were on tour until Xmas.

"To be compared with 2006, the year 2007 will enter the books as a great one! The only early downer (the boot for Tom [Neumann, guitar] in PRIMAL FEAR) was re-energized with the wonderful comeback of Henny [Wolter].

"'New Religion' was a monster of a production and I've learnt a lot new things again, not only on the musical part!

"It was great to hit the road again with SINNER and play a little tour including a gig with THIN LIZZY and a furious show at the Headbangers Open Air. The new deal with AFM Records was the final goal of a nice comeback.

"The most exciting moment of the year was the release of the new PRIMAL FEAR album. With new partners all over the world, it was very unsure if we can match the numbers of our final Nuclear Blast album, 'Seven Seals'. Fair enough, we did! Well, the fans are very self-willed, especially in the metal scene. This is one of the main factors why this scene is much alive and well against all odds. It was a huge satisfaction, as our former (strange to say) A&R Andy, told me that we've charted on position 60 in Germany, followed some days later by more chart entries. And the album will be still released in the U.S. on January 29th, 2008 — another important day!

"The show at the ProgPower USA festival in Atlanta was an unforgettable event, including the circumstances and the signing session. It was great to play the new songs on stage and Henny gave the band a new positive vibe. Even as Stefan [Leibing, guitar] couldn't play with us Part 1+2 of the shows in Europe, we stuck together and Alex Beyrodt executed a fantastic performance every night!

"One of the most electrifying moments was the show in Bordeaux, as Henny had to fly home, because his baby was born at the night of the Barcelona show, we decided to play as a four-piece for the first time in our history and the show [was] unbelievably good!

"Japan was exciting, as always, with a unique organization, the best catering in the world and insane fans!

"The final nine concerts took place in Germany, and first of all, we have to say, we're proud of the German fans for their loyalty and support. Every venue was packed!

"My personal highlights were the shows in Helsinki, Bergara, Bordeaux, Antwerp and Tokyo!

"The plans for some more concerts next year are in full swing and aside of all foreign concerts, we plan another handful of very special shows, regarding our 10-year anniversary."

Primal Fear Issue Holiday Thank You

German power metallers PRIMAL FEAR have issued the following holiday message:

"It’s strange to come home two days before Xmas, after nearly three months of touring. So many impressions and feelings are still new and inside us. Yes, it’s already Xmas, the second night without an vibrating and shaking bus, but a good moment to thank you all for your endless support, help when we needed you and be with us on the road, in the studio and even in the pubs. We will add here no picture of Santa, glitter balls or snow. Our No. 1 tour entertainer Jack Bauer would say 'we have a situation' – 40 shows, 15 countries and 3 continents – thanks for your help to make our album New Religion and the tour such a success and a wonderful experience! We see us again in 2008 with more music, chaos, insanity and touring!"

"Have a merry Xmas - peace, health and love may be with you in 2008!"

Primal Fear Vocalist Ink Deal w/ Frontiers Records

Frontiers Records has announced the signing of Ralf Scheepers for the release of his first solo album.

Best known as the singer of German power metal legends PRIMAL FEAR, Ralf cut his teeth with TYRAN PACE and GAMMA RAY, the latter of which he formed alongside former HELLOWEEN guitar player Kai Hansen.

World renowned for his amazing range and high-pitched singing voice, sometimes reminiscent of JUDAS PRIEST's Rob Halford, Scheepers finally decided to work on a solo album.

"It is definitely going to be a metal album, but I will surely explore some different sounds and ways to exploit my voice," satted Scheepers.

"I will call a few friends and guests, which will make this record a very special one, but all details will be revealed at a later stage."

The CD will be recorded during the winter 2008 under the direction of Scheepers' PRIMAL FEAR bandmate Mat Sinner, with additional input by Scheepers himself, Achim Koehler and Charlie Bauerfeind. A summer 2008 release us expected.

Congrats to Henny and his girlfriend Nina. That's why Alex Beyrodt had to play as a single guitar player (for the first time in PRIMAL FEAR's history) in Bordeaux [France on October 23, 2007]. Primal Fear Slam Illegal Downloading

German power metallers PRIMAL FEAR have issued the following update:

"A newly released study by the Institute for Policy Innovation (IPI) from Texas estimates that global music piracy is costing the U.S. economic output 12.5 billion dollars and 71,060 jobs every year! It came as a shock to us to realize what extreme level illegal downloading has reached for PRIMAL FEAR and the metal scene.

"We've put months of hard work into our forthcoming CD, 'New Religion', which has cost a huge investment on our part to deliver the fans the best possible product we can. Now we've found out that according to objective statistics, four weeks before the official release our new CD it has already been downloaded illegally in numbers reaching into five digits! Those numbers are very disappointing! Still we're very proud of our new album." More...

Primal Fear Members Comment On New Album

PRIMAL FEAR have posted this message on their official website:

"Sorry for not getting back here earlier, but we worked hard to finalize all parts for the new album and preparing for our first show in a long time. We really can't wait for tomorrow to share the stage with MOTÖRHEAD others and have Henny (Wolter - guitar) back with us! Frontiers Records have finally set the release date of 'New Religion' [view cover] for Europe on September 21."

Individual band members have commented on the new album:

Ralf Scheepers (vocals): "We have worked for four weeks at the House Of Music studio, where we recorded most of the PRIMAL FEAR stuff in the past. We had magic moments - of course one was as Simone Simons (EPICA) was joining us. As four weeks were not enough time for the recordings, we continued with full power in different studios in our area. Mat (Sinner) worked with Matz Ulmer on the orchestra parts. Achim and Mat worked on Stefan's guitar parts and last not least, I'm very happy, that my very own little studio has proved to be good enough to record lead and backing vocals. Despite the fact that we have lost some important time in the main studio (due to problems we don't want to discuss in public), working at home was very relaxed and surrounded by a cool atmosphere. At last Henny Wolter recorded some guitars and our good friend Magnus Karlsson played two incredible lead guitar parts! 'New Religion' is definitely the start of a new chapter in the history of PRIMAL FEAR. The fact we've signed with a new record company and bringing back our good friend Henny into the band sets more energy free than the launch of a rocket. The band is in the best mood since many, many years! Can't believe that? Listen to the album!"

Randy Black (drums): "Once again I think we've pushed the boundaries with our latest PRIMAL FEAR CD 'New Religion'. The song writing is more diverse than ever even including an instrumental. Ralf seems to out do himself with each new CD. Starting with the ripping vocals of 'Sign Of Fear' to the fine yet powerful performances on 'Fighting The Darkness' and 'The Man I Don't Know'. I'm sure PRIMAL FEAR fans and critics alike will be blown away by his performance! Working with Mat Sinner and Charlie Bauerfeind producing again was inspirational for me as the three of us work very well together coming up with the right drum parts to fit the songs. Mat and Stefan, together with returning guitar slinger Henny Wolter have also kept the level very high with their performances. The overall sound on this CD is more brutal (in the most positive way) largely due to the mix of Ronald Prent. He managed to get what we wanted plus put his own stamp on the sound for a result that in my opinion is the overall best sounding PRIMAL FEAR CD to date! Looking forward to performing these new songs live for the fans later this year!"

Mat Sinner (bass): "I never had such a exciting and positive feeling since the release of the first PRIMAL FEAR album in 1998. We never worked harder on an album before. Thank God, we had three great back ups like co-producer Charlie Bauerfeind, mixer Ronald Prent and longtime partner Achim Koehler, who helped us to sail around every dangerous cliff! Sincere compliments to the fantastic performance of all my bandmates. I recognized, that the smile is back on their faces again and we're ready to explode! The songs of 'New Religion' combine all the trademarks the fans want to hear from PRIMAL FEAR, plus there's still space for progression, creativity and evolution. It's the first time Ralf is singing a duet with a female singer and Simone's voice just fits incredible. Of course we needed the right song for this combination and 'Everytime It Rains' is the song. I've heard the album ten thousand times now and I still feel that Fighting The Darkness is the best sounding song, we've ever produced. The real metal songs like 'Sign Of Fear', 'Blood On Your Hands' or 'New Religion' sounding 100% like PRIMAL FEAR, but still different. I really love the vibe and that I feel a progress in our work, that there is still space for a new step into creativity. Even the fast, but very melodic tracks like 'Face The Emptiness' or 'The Curse Of Sharon' sounding fresh, new and exciting!"

Here is the complete track listing for "New Religion":

01. Sign Of Fear
02. Face The Emptiness
03. Everytime It Rains
04. New Religion
05. Fighting The Darkness:
a) Fighting The Darkness
b) The Darkness
c) Reprise
06. Blood On Your Hands
07. The Curse Of Sharon
08. Too Much Time
09. Psycho
10. World On Fire
11. The Man (That I Don't Know)

Progpower USA Sold Out

The organizers of the ProgPower USA festival have announced a surprise headline set for this year's sold-out edition of the internationally renowned festival. Saturday night (October 6) will now finish with an all-star cover set featuring vocalists from both the showcase and the festival. Each vocalist will be given the opportunity to perform 1-2 cover songs of their choice with the music being provided by the members of PAGAN'S MIND. Additional guests will join them throughout the set.

"The fans have made this festival a success and it's time to give something back to them," said ProgPower USA promoter Glenn Harveston. "I wanted to announce this after the sell-out as a reward instead of in advance as an incentive. It's going to be one hell of a party on stage."

As a result of the additional performance, there has been a major change in the schedule and door times. "I had to shake things up quite a bit to make this work," Harveston explained. "However, the fans can relax knowing that not one band will have a single minute cut from their previously announced set lengths."

The new schedule and door times can be found at the festival web site. More...
